The last of the Adventure Time trade paperbacks under Christopher Hastings, suitably epic, Volume 13 brings back many of the comic series’ characters and engages in a lot of fun dungeon building (literally). While the dialog can occasionally be bogged down a bit in its mix of exposition and the snappy banter AT is known for, it’s a pretty good place to end your run on. Check out more AT ephemera I've been going through at Reading Rainstorm.

Mixed feelings how all these different Adventure Time comics volumes now play out as closed-loop story arcs plotted across several issues. I guess it's the only way to tell Adventure Time-worthy epic stories without needing to deal with the implications of the continuity of the show (and the lack thereof). Thus these are shows that are very true to the spirit of Adventure Time but also feel not perfectly right for it to some degree. They're still good but not always amazingly Adventure Time level good.

I think I prefer watching the show versus reading it. It's nice though. If I ever want new material I'll just read the graphic novels.

These books are honestly just getting worse and worse. A complete mess of a mindfuck. I did not find that entertaining or enjoyable to read.

I still think of Christopher Hastings as the new writer, but here he wraps up his run with a neat-ish time loop story. It begins with Finn and Jake deciding to connect with their dear departed dad by making a dungeon of their own. And it ends up being all about the Moon and its secret spirit, which felt slightly eerie to me given I'd spent the previous day at a commemoration of Steve Moore and the launch of his book on Selene...
