Margaret Dearborn’s death has been a mystery since the moment her shattered body was found in the front yard of her affluent Massachusetts home two hundred years ago. Depressed after the disappearance of her true love, Cager Barclay, and in conflict with her disapproving father, most believe her death was tragically self-inflicted.
Now, Meg lives again thanks to a revolutionary discovery that has regenerated her flesh and bones. When Meg confesses she still cannot let Cager's memory go, her friends believe she is chasing a ghost.
But Cager is no ghost. They are dangerous worlds apart but their great love is not over.
Steve Hobbs is a Maine native still residing in New England. He is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University and lives a quiet, normal life. Steve writes about seemingly normal people caught up in extraordinary situations. He never guarantees a happy ending but sometimes comes close.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Retreads, it is a totally unique and the only other YA book I could compare it to is The Adoration of Jenna Fox. I loved the switch in perspectives and totally immersive experience of both worlds and all the different characters and personalities. The idea of bringing people from the past into the modern world is certainly an interesting one and Retreads stirs up much thought of what that would be like for yourself and for the person coming back! I loved how each of the characters especially the ones from the past learn and get to fix the “mistakes” they made in they pasts lives. The main characters where all very special and fit with there own very different personalities. Though there are some heart-racing action scenes, Mr. Hobbs never glamorizes violence or the taking of life. Mr. Hobbs also shows the true meaning of friendship, family, and kindness. As well as the idea that people don't start out evil. Retreads is a great read for anyone that enjoys a unique and extremely intriguing sc-fi.
Having read Author Hobbs’s first book, I just had to read this new one, and I wasn’t disappointed, or surprised at just how original and fresh it is. It’s a very clever sci-fi story, touching on time travel, and characters one can buy into. The switching from one dimension to the other is done with consummate skill, and the reader is continually wondering what’s going to happen next. As well as being highly addictive, this book is exceptionally well written, and is a book that I would recommend to anyone who likes sci-fi, and even to those who wouldn’t normally look at this genre. An outstanding novel and easily worthy of five stars!
I wanted to read this book because I liked the author's first book so much. I loved Carrie and Meg from the minute I met them. They are two brave girls who help each other figure out how to navigate the surprising new existence they find themselves in. When the going gets tough, they rely on themselves and each other to get through. I couldn't put this book down! I highly recommend it!!
