Watch the sky, friend. – You never know when a cow might come tumbling out of it!
Wizards grow old like everyone else. But some wizards grow deadly with it!
Wilberforce Wilberton is such a wizard. Once one of the most powerful of his peers, his mind has slipped into chaos. His spells are failing spectacularly. Paranoia has taken root in his heart.
Normally that shouldn't be a problem for Edrick – a young wizard in hiding from his family. He could just retreat to his home in Faerie and let the world go on without him. And in fact that would be best since Wilberton has focussed his madness on him. But even he needs to come in to town every so often to purchase supplies.
Unfortunately the wizard's latest misfiring spell has abducted an entire village of winged elves and now he can't send them home. And as a fellow wizard Edrick has an obligation to help fix things.
Even though I thought the ending was plain cruel. A kitten...REALLY... Anyway, this story of a old wizard mis casting spell after spell to the chagrin of the neighboring townsfolk was a great entertaining story. Kind of reminds me of my countries own dotard. A completed story, with no stay tuned while the bat is tied up over a vat of acid till the next episode. I really appreciate that, because 90% of the other books I read end like that. THANKS
I've yet to read a Greg Curtis novel that was anything less than great. The Dotard follows in the familiar style of his other fantasy novels, but has it's own unique twists and turns. Like all of them, he manages to make what could be just another story into something unique and interesting.
What happens when a powerful wizard starts to get senile? Oh, my goodness. What an exciting, original concept. This book was full of fun characters, surprising twists and turns, and best of all was the ending. Again this author has written a fabulous book where the story keeps building and building and you don't want to put it down.
This just wasn't for me. I didn't find it interesting or funny. Didn't care for any of the characters and couldn't get into the story. I don't recommend this book.
