I’m always nervous to read debut novels of Indie authors because the stories are often hit or miss. If you’re like me, let me ease your mind: Kat Savage has without a doubt written a hit with For Now. I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan of Kat’s poetry collections. Of course, I hoped to love this novel, but I didn’t expect to feel the level of adoration for it that I do!
Kat’s characters are relatable and realistic. Her plotting is precise and perfectly paced. I can’t say enough good things about this story.
The characters in For Now are ingrained in my memory. I felt like I knew them, like they were real people I’d want to be friends with. These are my favorite type of books to read, where I exist with the characters and feel like I’m part of their lives. Delilah’s story was heavy and heartbreaking. As a mother, I was saddened to read of her experiences, but I love that Kat included the tough parts of life. I think when we experience the difficulties of life through characters, we as readers can become more empathetic in our everyday realities. For this reason, I love reading about broken characters, as I feel like I am able to grow with them.
“Look at all you’ve been through. Look at all you’ve endured. And still, here you are, standing up for yourself, refusing to take the easy road.”
Samuel was everything I look for in a male lead. He is gentle, kind, and an all-around good man. I prefer this type of character to the alpha “hunk” any day. Samuel is a single dad who has taken on the role of mother and father with seemingly few hiccups. He rises to the challenge and finds the strength to continue being a positive and light character. His persistence with Delilah was one of the most heartwarming aspects of his character, even more than being a great father. I love how he never faulted her resistance to getting close to him, but instead understood exactly what she needed. Seriously, why can’t we all be a little more like this guy? He was everything!

Kat Savage’s storytelling is stellar with this novel. The story kept my attention throughout, forcing me to finish in a few short hours of reading. There is a twist I doubt many readers will see coming that just about knocked my socks off. As if Kat wasn’t receiving my praise already, that twist certainly won me over.
My only small critique would be for a bit more elaboration on the twisty parts of the story. The point was achieved, but I hoped for just a tad more information. Overall, this story was a solid debut novel, making me anxious to see what Kat will come up with next. The book is beautiful on the inside and out, so make sure you pre-order it now! There are a lot of cool things about debut novels. Especially when the novel has a lot of freshness in the writing department and packs a great punch. Those are my favorite types. There are also a lot of negative things about reading debut novels. Lack of descriptions, run on sentences, no plot, unfinished business. But luckily with For Now, I didn’t experience any negativity. I didn’t experience any lack of descriptions or any choppy, run on sentences or no plot. Which for me, is a fantastic trait for a debut novel to hold.
“By the end, I learned that a person doesn’t have to pack a suitcase and kiss you goodbye to leave you. Sometimes they will slip away quietly right next to you and you cannot reach them.”
Flawed characters are my absolute favorite. And while some people can have such a hard time writing these types of characters, Kat did not. Some authors forget to give their character some growth and development, Kat did not. Kat executed the type of character that is so flawed she has nowhere to go but up or down. BUT, she makes it to where you enjoy every second of her ups (or downs) and you get to experience it the way that Delilah does which is all that I could as for as a reader.

GREAT hints of suspense were strategically placed within the story line that hooks you right from the get go. Slight hints of mystery delivered to the reader as the story progresses but also not giving away too much so that you are still shocked when you get the rest of the details…perfection. I love that. For Now had that.
My only suggestion for the book would have been dual POV. I feel like a lot of moments in this book really needed to be told from Samuel’s POV. Maybe not every other chapter but definitely a couple of pieces of his mind would have been fun and intriguing.
Great job, Kat! I can’t begin to tell you how impressed I am with the strength of your writing and deliverance of a fantastic and well plotted story. I’m thoroughly excited to see what you can deliver in the future.

I am so impressed with this debut. I have long thought Kat Savage should try her hand at fiction. Her prose poetry pieces have always been my favorite. I think she made a seamless transition here.
For Now deals with heavy topics, things many people may not realize is a reality for some. Samuel was a great source of light to the dark Delilah was wearing around her heart. Sometimes we just need someone to reflect in us all the good we have, so we can be reminded.
I am always a fan of seeing female characters wade through the mess life can be following a disaster. I want to say so much more, but I don't want to spoil anything.
For Now is not just a romance, there is a mystery to it and I think Kat reflected that with her cover choice.

“Sometimes words weren’t needed. And sometimes knowing someone saw something in you no one else did was all it took to start falling and hoping that wherever you would land would be worth it.”
This is Kat Savage’s debut novel. She is an amazing poet and her words always stick with me. This novel has flawed characters that are relatable, real life situations that left me heartbroken and a twist of mystery to add to the story. I instantly liked both Delilah and Samuel. They are both individuals struggling to get over their past and move on. Sometimes moving on is the hardest part when your past is always there haunting you. Samuel is patient and loving and kind. Delilah is reserved and standoffish but has her reasons. My heart broke as she recalled her past. I felt her pain with every word. I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship and the story. Nothing seemed rushed or unrealistic. They are two broken people navigating the pain of their past while trying to move on with their life. There is one twist that in my opinion is a bit far fetched, but overall, I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read more from Ms. Savage!!!

What a great debut book from Kat Savage. I couldn't put it down.
I loved Delilah and in so many ways could relate and feel some of her pain. She could be so optimistic one minute and so broken the next. She hasn't healed yet and is starting over to give herself that chance. She is my favorite type of character. She is flawed but hasn't given up on herself.

I went into this with book blind. I was very familiar with Kat Savages poetry, which could be heavy at times, so I knew this was a possibility. There were some heavy moments. My heart ached for Delilah and the trauma of her previous life....but there was so much happiness and optimism intertwined. There was plenty of suspense...which I was not expecting and LOVED! The writing was so fluid and well thought out.

Oh the feels. My heart is happy. What can I say? I love me some Kat Savage. I've been following Kat on Instagram for as long as I can remember. And I still remember the first poem I read of hers that made everything around me stop. Those words I read made my heart flutter and made it want to skyrocket out of my chest. Those words about happiness and the way that happiness has different ways of leaving, spoke to me. I knew after reading that poem, I would never be the same. And so when I found out Kat was writing a book, I all about lost my mind. I was so freaking ecstatic, I couldn't contain my excitement. I needed said book right at that exact moment. And Kat certainly hit a home run with her debut novel.
For Now was a novel filled to the brim with emotions. It had its flawed characters. It was gritty and raw. It dealt with very real issues, that some don't talk about, or don't know how to talk about. It was about a strong heroine trying to wade through the darkness and trying to find the light. And a hero that does his damnedest to give the heroine the good she deserves.
Delilah was a character that had me admiring her resilience. She did her best to not succumb to the darkness. And the strength she had to keep going after being continuously knocked down had me screaming "yes, go girl!" She clawed and fought wanting to find happiness.
Samuel. Oh my gosh, Samuel was a dream. He was so patient. It didn't matter how long it took, he was going to wait for Delilah. He didn't pressure her and he was just so understanding. He not only wanted to show Delilah happiness, he wanted her to feel and believe every good thing he said. I absolutely loved Samuel and the way he was with Delilah.
Kat, I'm so glad you wrote this book. I'm so happy you took that leap. I've always loved your writing, your poems make me feel every emotion. And this book made me feel just as much. I can't wait to see what else you have in store.

Ahhh! Hello word nerds!! I have been waiting for soooooo long to be able to write this post! Kat Savage has teased and teased about the novel she was working on and I FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON IT!!! I have been stalking appropriately following Kat for an undetermined amount of time that feels like forever but is actually only a year or two. Her poetry is real and just absolutely on point always (and I have written reviews about them so check it out!) so I knew that as soon as she mentioned a novel I wanted it. Kat has always been a writer that pours herself into her work and it shows. Those are the type of writers to follow because you know you will always get the best from them because there simply is no other option.
For Now grabs a hold of you from page one and never let’s go. If I did not know beforehand that this was a debut novel I never would have guessed it. The writing was simply amazing! There is hurt, love, and even some suspense. I wish that some of the plot twists got a little more time simply because they were so unexpected and well placed that I wanted more! Overall this is definitely a great book that I already plan to re-read. Kat Savage hit it out of the park with her first novel and I personally cannot wait for more.

I honestly can’t say I am surprised with the greatness of this book. Kat knocked this debut out of the MF’n park! Delilah held my heart right from the beginning and I was just blown away by her character. I’ve always known Kat was a great writer, but her story telling abilities take her writing to the next level. Pick this book up!

Oh boy, my emotions. I absolutely loved this book! I had a hard time putting it down once I started. I've read and loved Kat's poetry and as a debut novel For Now was incredible. I'm completely in love with Samuel. I am kind of curious what happened to Jeff and Marilyn... Those two..Jesus Christ. There were so many scenes I cried and was so angry for Delilah, but there was a lot of sweet moments too. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every word of it.

Savage's debut novel was filled with the kind of brutally honest heart-wrenching prose we've come to know so well from her. All at once the book was brave, powerful, and reminiscent of a shower in the dark after feeling worn down from life and all it entails. From Delilah's POV you understand her story, want to get to know her, want to help her, set her free, and by the end you are so enthralled with her that you are beyond rooting for her; she becomes a part of you. There is a bit of Delilah in all of us, and from this, I think many readers will be able to relate. The author has a way of making you feel connected to her work, for so many reasons that so many people are afraid to talk about. I highly recommend this book and look forward to Kat's next novel.

Wow. I am lucky to have received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. And..I repeat..wow. It is hard to believe that this is Savage's debut novel. A seasoned poet, her transition to fiction-writing is pretty seamless, which is something not many poets-turned-novelists can pull off.
This woman knows how to tell a story. The internal monologue and the dialogue seemed really natural. The pace never dragged, my eyes never wandered ahead. The topic is timely, the content heavy at times, and I applaud Savage for tackling such triggering topics with poise, understanding, and in a way that it is not simply for shock-value.
I recommend this book. I don't want to say much else because I don't want to spoil the contents. I may add more to this review in the future.

I found myself unable to put the book down. I enjoyed Kat's writing style and found myself feeling for Delilah as I never have for a character before. I truly hope that this was not based on a persons experience, I could not have imagine all the twists and turns that the book threw at me. I cannot wait to see what Kat writes next.

Damn...Wow... I mean I am blown away by this debut novel from Kat Savage. I have loved this author's poetry and her novel was just as awesome and moving as her poetry. I think anyone who feels intensely and has experienced a lot of pain and betrayal tends to write about it with a depth and ferocity others might not be so capable of pulling off. Her past poetry was emotional for me and this book was very emotional for me as well. Not to mention the fact that there's a twist in there you probably won't see coming. It is definitely a twisted but good story with a happy ending, but you'll be on a roller coaster ride with the character and taken to some pretty dark places. From great pain can come great strength and beauty and you will see that in this story too. This was a really easy read for me because it had my attention from the beginning and was a page turner that I didn't want to stop reading. You could say this is ultimately a love story of course, but I liked that it felt like part thriller and part horror from all the terrifying things that happened to the main character. Also, trigger warning for miscarriage/child loss, rape, controlling abusive husband's, cheating, liars, and stalkers. Even though this story was crazy it was still great and hopeful, just like real life. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

This book is a debut novel for this author. There's heartbreak, mystery, and comfort.
I enjoyed the story that was told. Delilah, no woman and I mean NO woman should have to endure what she had to. This story is about her past, her present and then how she got a future.
"You didn’t have to lose yourself to gain love. And you shouldn’t lose yourself to feel loved."
There was a lot of good to this story. The depth that the author writes is well and the story she tells made me want to finish the story.
However, it took me awhile to get through this book.
This book would have been better if written from duel POV. I feel we could have gotten more of the story if Samuel's thoughts were somewhere in the story. Even if it was just a few chapters, it would have helped.
At times the transitioning didn't flow. I would be reading one thing and then it ends and I thought, "well I guess we are moving on. "
There was a fade to black moment that I felt should have been placed in the story. I can't say why because no spoilers but it just lacked for their connection.
Overall, I give this story 3 stars because the story is good despite the other things that didn't stick for me.
This book is a debut novel for this author. There's heartbreak, mystery, and comfort.
I enjoyed the story that was told. Delilah, no woman and I mean NO woman should have to endure what she had to. This story is about her past, her present and then how she got a future.
"You didn’t have to lose yourself to gain love. And you shouldn’t lose yourself to feel loved."
There was a lot of good to this story. The depth that the author writes is well and the story she tells made me want to finish the story.
However, it took me awhile to get through this book.
This book would have been better if written from duel POV. I feel we could have gotten more of the story if Samuel's thoughts were somewhere in the story. Even if it was just a few chapters, it would have helped.
At times the transitioning didn't flow. I would be reading one thing and then it ends and I thought, "well I guess we are moving on. "
There was a fade to black moment that I felt should have been placed in the story. I can't say why because no spoilers but it just lacked for their connection.
Overall, I give this story 3 stars because the story is good despite the other things that didn't stick for me.

I have totally mixed feelings about this book. The writing style of this author was fine. The way she wrote this story, had me picturing the new life Delilah was setting up for herself. She was near her best friend and trying to reclaim herself. That’s where the happiness of the story ended. Delilah is dealing with major grief and I thought this was a hard to read book. Simply because of the content. I wasn’t prepared for it. Delilah has experienced trauma and as her story unfolds, the reader finds out what made her the way she is. This character isn’t a happy character, she’s still in the throes of this horrible part of her life and she can’t move forward. I had a hard time getting through this book because it was so heavy. And then there was a curve ball that came out of left field. It wasn’t a bad book, but it honestly wasn’t for me.

I have to say for a Debut Novel this has it all.
It’s a fresh contemporary romance, with mystery and added elements of suspense.
It does however hit on the sad reality of real life situations and the cruel circumstances that unfortunately people find themselves living.
It’s uncomfortable in places but executed in a way that only makes you resonate more with Delilah on a personal level.
You only want the best for her future while you witness the push and pull between her and Samuels developing relationship.
I’m not going to lie though I would like to have seen Samuels POV, it would have been interesting to have been in his mind set in certain places.
But then that’s easily forgiven when you see his Father son relationship with Mason, hit single Dad swoon factor.
Wether or not you’ve already had the pleasure of reading Kats poetry, this a must read.
I look forward to more from Kat in the future.

Delilah Spencer is no stranger to heartbreak. Between the child she lost from a miscarriage to the husband that walked out on her, it seems heartache is all she'll ever know. The subtle hand movements over her abdomen are Delilah's reminder to mourn her baby girl, but how are you supposed to mourn the husband who betrayed you in the worst kind of way?
Delilah has to get away from the life that caused her nothing but pain. We like to think packing up and moving is the answer to heal ourselves, so when Delilah chooses to live close to her best friend, Emma it seems like the start of a new life. Maybe she can be happy here.
Enter Samuel Young--devilishly handsome, single father. When Delilah stumbles upon him (literally) he will stop at nothing to receive her attention. Samuel has fully healed from his troublesome past so he knows how to recognize hurt in another. Can his full heart, patience and persistence be enough to keep Delilah? Or is this only a For Now kind of love?
Kat Savage's debut novel is nothing short of gripping. She certainly knows how to grab hold of an audiences attention and keep them in a trance from start to finish. I did not want to put this book down when real life was calling me back and closing it for the last time was tough. I wanted more Delilah and Samuel.
As far as storyline goes, it was a perfect selection. The twists and depth from the characters were as if Kat has been writing novels her entire life. She's a natural. What I would like to see from Kat in the future is expansion. There were certain points in the story where I think some scenes happened too fast and I just wanted them to play out slower, I just wanted MORE. Call me greedy! I wanted more of the wonderful story Kat was giving us.
I'm certainly excited to see what Kat Savage will serve to us in her novels to come and I'm hoping she stays in the novel realm because she's a natural. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you check it out. You'll be on the edge of your seat for the next one too!

A heartache in the best way. The best books elicit the same emotions the characters in the story are feeling, and I felt. Every. Word.
The story opens up with the main character, Delilah, embarking on her fresh start. Kat Savage flips between past and present in a way that fills in the reader just enough for you to think you understand Delilah at that point in the plot, then reveals another wound you weren’t quite prepared for. My heart broke with Delilah, but it also mended with her, too.
Samuel was my favorite type of hero: kindhearted, chivalrous, humorous, loyal. Good. There aren’t enough characters like him, and he was like a breath of fresh air. He showed Delilah, and the reader, the meaning of unconditional, redeeming love. I’m firmly team Samuel.
The twists in this plot were just dramatic enough without being unrealistic, or overkill, and Savage wove a story in For Now that’s nothing short of a work of art. Loved it.

This is a great debut novel! I really enjoyed the two main characters - they felt very authentic to me. The plot kept me interested, and all of Kat's descriptions made me picture everything she was describing. (At times, though, I wish she had pulled back a bit so I could imagine things on my own.) Although this story could be considered a romance, it's also a journey of healing and self-discovery. Feelings weren't rushed; rather, they were given space to evolve and grow. This shows a real maturity in Kat's writing. I'm sure her experience writing thoughtful and evocative poetry played a role in this outcome, making the story a stronger piece of writing. Overall, it was a real pleasure to read this new novelist's words!

A wonderful debut novel. I felt the same raw emotion in this novel that I do with Kat's poetry. I loved that it dealt with some real topics that people don't often acknowledge or address. Looking forward to more from Kat Savage.

La narrazione è concentrata sul punto di vista della protagonista con uno stile quasi giornalistico e asettico, che si prodiga nel mostrarci piccoli gesti quotidiani e riflessioni.
I ricordi esplorano il suo vissuto mostrandoci un mix di emozioni che vanno dalla vergogna all’impotenza, fino al sentirsi tradita dal proprio corpo. Emozioni che fanno sentire deboli, usate, umiliate e possono spingere una donna a sentirsi impietrita, più che indotta a scappare.
Pensai a un altro posto, uno senza nome, dove sarei potuta andare ed essere sola e non sentirmi in colpa per esserlo. Nessuno avrebbe saputo dov’ero o come arrivarci. Avrei potuto sparire per sempre e limitarmi a esistere senza temere di essere ferita. Mi sentivo come un animale. Ero un cane randagio senza alcun controllo su quello che mi succedeva. Gli uomini potevano venire e catturarmi, ferirmi, mettermi un guinzaglio e portarmi in giro. Non avevo un posto al mondo. Potevo avvertire la rabbia. Mi si stava gonfiando nel petto. Finalmente, qualcosa che non faceva male. In quello stato potevo sopravvivere.
Dopo essersi lasciata alle spalle questa brutta esperienza, Delilah è di fronte a una possibilità di rinascita, può ricominciare da capo, ma il peso di tutto ciò che è successo la segue e ancora ne subisce gli effetti nell’animo.
Accompagnarla durante la sua routine ci permette di scorgere, dietro a un auspicato sollievo per un desiderato senso di libertà, gli effetti psicologici della perdita di un figlio in grembo e il disturbo da stress post traumatico causato dalle violenze subite. Come altre donne con la stessa esperienza, Delilah si porta dietro anche il senso di colpa per non aver riconosciuto per tempo l’abuso e per non aver trovato il coraggio di liberarsene immediatamente, oltre alla paura di ritorsioni e di doversi di nuovo confrontare con persone di sesso maschile.
Questo mix contrastante di emozioni che ancora la travolgono a ondate viene ulteriormente scosso quando prova un’inaspettata e non cercata intesa con Samuel, un uomo che pare di stampo diverso dall’ex, ma che mette alla prova il suo istinto di conservazione.
Si trova a suo agio con lui, e nota una personalità dolce e rispettosa, tuttavia non le è facile fidarsi, e finisce per avere atteggiamenti altalenanti, a tratti spontanei, altri diffidenti.
Erano tutti pronti a dichiarare in maniera oggettiva cosa la donna avrebbe dovuto o potuto fare, e si limitavano a concludere che, se non aveva fatto niente per risolvere la situazione, non doveva essere stata tanto male. Era sempre colpa sua per non essersene andata. Nessuno capiva il particolare coraggio silenzioso necessario per restare e sperare. Emma aveva ragione: nessun altro avrebbe dovuto pagare per ciò che Jeff aveva fatto ma, a volte, non c’era niente da fare. A volte, stava agli uomini dimostrare di essere diversi. E anche io non potevo farci nulla.
Dai ricordi di Delilah emergono vicende così crude e violente che la mancanza di intensità emotiva nella narrazione ci fa sentire sollevati. Tuttavia, in diverse occasioni lo stile troppo asciutto mi è sembrato poco intenso e poco coinvolgente. Lo stesso interessamento per Samuel è sembrato distaccato e “rinunciabile”.
Ho faticato a entrare in empatia con Delilah nel provare il suo disagio, la paura, l’attrazione: dobbiamo dedurre tutte queste emozioni dai suoi atteggiamenti, e la cosa ci lascia preda di facili giudizi o approssimazioni, come ad esempio il fatto che sia troppo presto e lei sia ancora troppo fragile e traumatizzata per voler concludere con un lieto fine a tutti i costi.
Sorrisi a occhi chiusi. «Beh, signore. Ora che mi avete fatta arrossire, cosa avete intenzione di fare per il resto della giornata?» chiesi. «Oh, avrei in mente un paio di cose.» Inarcò un sopracciglio e mi rivolse un sogghigno. Mi sentii avvampare. Sciogliere. Bruciare. Era bravo a stuzzicarmi e la cosa era sia fastidiosa che era adorabile. Richiusi gli occhi e cercai di non dire o fare nulla che potesse provocarlo. Deglutii rumorosamente, con la bocca socchiusa.
Samuel è caratterizzato come un uomo pacato dagli atteggiamenti da psicologo: evita slanci emotivi forti (anche quando potrebbero essere naturali) di fronte a confessioni drammatiche, mantenendo un atteggiamento di apertura, ascolto e oggettività da professionista adeguato al bisogno di non spaventarla e assecondare la sua guarigione. Un uomo capace di delicatezza e tatto… eppure, si tratta forse di una caratterizzazione un po’ troppo artificiosa, poco realistica, e a mio avviso anche poco virile, venendo a mancare quelle componenti di fuoco, di spontaneità, di senso protettivo istintivo che nei personaggi maschili per me sono importanti.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I hadn't even read the blurb when I signed up for the ARC because I've always loved her poetry. But her debut novel is making me think things. I have mixed feelings for this book but I will start with the positives here.
I like the theme that she chose. I love the fact that even with so much trauma, Delilah is so strong and holding up really well. The story was captivating and I am really glad that it ended the way it did. The characters were really real and not glossed over at all.
But as much it was important to read this, I had problems with this book. For one, the writing style. One can use simple words and still be effective in creating feels. Kat Savage has used a simple language in her book, but it was bland. It's like, you've made your chapati and you've cooked simple dal curry and it looks all right but when you taste it? You forgot salt in both. It's her debut novel so I'm sure she'll do better in the future because she has that capacity.
There were times when there was unnecessary description. I found there was too much internal monologue, but I will forgive that because Delilah has had trouble.
And nobody should be in Delilah's shoes. I don't know anybody who was, so it was really, really hard for me to connect to any of the characters in the book. Emma, David, Samuel, Delilah, anybody.
But you should give it a try and see for yourself. Maybe this book will change you.

Five stars on Kat’s debut book! I finished this a few days ago and I had to pause to gather all of the emotions I went through while reading this story. First of all, I love a book with a good slow burn and Kat Savage achieved this.

This was a story about a woman who experienced horrible things and still managed to trust again. There was never a moment in this story that I didn’t empathize with Delilah. My heart broke with hers, I fell in love with Samuel along with her, and I adored her friendship with Emma.
“Sometimes words weren’t needed. And sometimes knowing someone saw something in you no one else did was all it took to start falling and hoping that wherever you would land would be worth it.”
The twists in this story kept me on my toes the entire way, and I loved the way Kat’s poetry bled into her story.
“You can see it, you know? The pain. You try to hide it but the truth is I knew you were hurt before you ever told me where your wounds were. But I’m not here to save you from it, Delilah. No man can. I’m here to remind you that wounds heal with time and the scars mean you survived it.”

How do I explain that this book was more and less than what I expected? As well as 3858 other people I became a Savage fan through her poetry so I had this expectation of a very poetic prose. I did not find that here, but I did find enjoyable characters with an interesting story!
I was rather fond of Delilah and Samuel together, I liked the way they led into each other. The plot twist for me just fell flat. The villain was not very believable and the fade to black scene at a prominent moment was not my favorite.
What I wouldn't have given to be inside Samuels head for a chapter of two!
Kat Savage has talent, I will continue to read whatever she writes. This is good, and I think great is on its way.

Two broken people find each other. Can they heal one another or will their baggage drag them both under? This book has extremely tough subject matter, but it was so poetically written and heart-breaking at each page I turned that I couldn’t put it down.
Delilah is broken, her trauma is unbelievably huge. It’s like a weight that’s tied her down, reflected in everything she does. After her husband leaves her for another woman (and that’s the good part), she moves to start a new life in a unfamiliar city near her best friend, and to try and put her agonizing past behind her.
There was not a moment that my heart didn’t ache for this woman. Each time I thought it couldn’t get any worse for her it did. I found myself reading in little bits at times, parts of her life so emotional it was like a dagger to my heart.
Samuel is the hot single dad type with a young son who lives down the street from Delilah, so they are always “coincidently” bumping into each other. He is broken too but in a different way, and his suffering is not near as traumatic as Delilah. Together they suffer a little less each day, until they are driven violently apart by a dramatic twist.
This book is the debut book of a published poet, so it reads like poetry in the most unique and heartbreaking way. But it’s not a poem, it’s just the illustration that the author uses us so colorful it almost inflicts the book upon you. It drained all the emotions out of me in the form of tears all the way until the end.
If you like the dramatic and the traumatic, beautifully sad mixed in with a little bit of good and a plot twist, then I would recommend this book!
Delilah is broken, her trauma is unbelievably huge. It’s like a weight that’s tied her down, reflected in everything she does. After her husband leaves her for another woman (and that’s the good part), she moves to start a new life in a unfamiliar city near her best friend, and to try and put her agonizing past behind her.
There was not a moment that my heart didn’t ache for this woman. Each time I thought it couldn’t get any worse for her it did. I found myself reading in little bits at times, parts of her life so emotional it was like a dagger to my heart.
Samuel is the hot single dad type with a young son who lives down the street from Delilah, so they are always “coincidently” bumping into each other. He is broken too but in a different way, and his suffering is not near as traumatic as Delilah. Together they suffer a little less each day, until they are driven violently apart by a dramatic twist.
This book is the debut book of a published poet, so it reads like poetry in the most unique and heartbreaking way. But it’s not a poem, it’s just the illustration that the author uses us so colorful it almost inflicts the book upon you. It drained all the emotions out of me in the form of tears all the way until the end.
If you like the dramatic and the traumatic, beautifully sad mixed in with a little bit of good and a plot twist, then I would recommend this book!

I rate this book as a strong 3.5 stars! I was pleasantly impressed with For Now, the debut novel by poet Kat Savage. It’s a love story with a dark background and a suspenseful twist. The plot is imaginative, compelling, and bravely deals with some very heavy subject matter. It was evident this novel was written by someone who’s endured the tragedies of heartbreak.
Delilah Spencer is a woman navigating the difficult process of healing after a painful past relationship. The last thing on her mind is having anything to do with a man. Yet, Delilah can’t help begrudgingly finding bits of hope in the charming and understanding Samuel Young.
However, an unforeseeable twist of fate pushes beyond the limits of Delilah’s fragile psyche. Afer all, how much can one person really endure? Will Delilah be able to move on, heal, and find the happiness she deserves? For Now definitely has an ending you won’t want to miss!

This was a case of it's not you, it's me.
There wasn't anything wrong with the writing or the story, but I couldn't get into this book. So I often found myself skimming quite a bit.
I empathized with Delilah and immediately liked Samuel. Since Samuel was a single dad I would've liked there to have been more scenes with his son involved. There was a bit of suspense and a twist I didn't see coming.
If I didn't know already that this was Kat's debut novel I wouldn't have been able to tell.

First of all, my absolute favorite part of this book is that the story is told only from Delilah's POV. Savage keeps the story moving swiftly and poetically without the benefit of changing characters and voices, not always an easy task.
I've followed Kat Savage's poetry on Instagram for awhile. Savage does an excellent job of incorporating her natural prose into the narrative. I highlighted numerous passages and quotes

I absolutely loved this story. Right from the very beginning, Kat Savage had me hooked.The love story between Samuel and Lilah is beautiful yet full of so much angst that I couldn’t stop reading. The mystery of her past, what makes her the way she is? It comes together with so many unexpected twists and turns. I could say so much but I don’t want to spoil the story so what I will say is GET THIS BOOK!! Kat Savage has done an amazing job and deserves the five star rating I gave her

Holy shit Kat Savage blew this debut out of the park. I was hooked from the start. It was well paced and the voice of Delilah was genuine, which is important to me. I loved that through all she went through she was never whiny or “woe is me.” I can’t wait to see what else Kat has up her sleeve!
