Misty Prescott had the perfect life—emphasis on the “had”. Cookie-cutter house? Gone. Gated neighborhood with quiet streets? Gone. Cheating jerk of a husband? Glad to be gone. With nowhere else to go, she returns to her hometown and back to her parents’ ranch. Living in her old room again was never part of her plan, but then again, neither was falling for her childhood friend’s rugged charm faster than the ink could dry on her divorce papers.
When tragedy brings Dylan McCoy back home, the last person he expected to see was the beautiful woman who claimed his heart over a decade ago. Not taking the chance with Misty when he had one was always something he regretted, but now that she's back—and single—Dylan's determined to be a part of that life she's trying to put back together.
But secrets go deep in the heart of Texas, and soon there's more than just sparks flying. When Dylan and Misty find themselves targets of one horrific event after another, suddenly, they must fight the obstacles threatening to tear them apart—and survive the danger that threatens their lives.
Kimberly Lewis is the bestselling author of sweet, sexy contemporary romances filled with heart and humor. She lives in Maryland with her husband and two children.
Having caught the creative bug at an early age, Kimberly fully embraced her active imagination and grew up with a fondness for reading, drawing, and crafting stories. She eventually veered away from the art world to explore other career options, but a rediscovery of her love for the romance genre reignited that creative spark and—just like that—her first novel was published in 2011. Her stories are filled with humor, emotion, and a whole lot of love.
This is an A+B=C romance novel. The ending isn't at all shocking. But there are twists and turns that make it a good read and keep you turning pages. This is the first book I've read by this author. I am a fan!
Writing was off, jumping from one point of view to another in each paragraph. Not to mention describing every tiny irrelevant detail and plot twists which made no sense.
I love a romance with mystery thrown in. Kimberly Lewis did that with her first ever novel, When the Heart Falls.
This is a story of a woman betrayed by her husband and longing for trust and security. It’s about a man caught in the crossfires of a greedy rancher. Both find themselves walking the same path with their lives hanging in the balance as well as their feelings for each other. They discover a love as they discover dark treachery around them.
I enjoyed how well Ms. Lewis described the emotions of her characters. I felt the pain, hurt, and anger felt as well as the fear and longing. That is not always easy to do especially as a first time writer. Emotional descriptions can make or break a story. In this case, these narratives were crucial to the story and were done well. Without them, this would not have been such a strong story.
The mystery was not too much of a mystery for the reader as I knew from the beginning who was behind the unfortunate events. It is a mystery to the characters which makes it more interesting from the reader’s point of view. It can be entertaining to watch the main characters unknowingly interacting with the guilty party.
Ms. Lewis has a very enjoyable story here that will be a good summer reader for the beach or the backyard. This is the perfect book for anyone that likes romance with a touch of mystery thrown in.

I love those kind of books where you just feel good after reading them. This was one of those for me.
Misty's journey is really such a heartfelt one. I hated Vance, I loved Dylan.
This is definitely a quick and light read. It had elements of Romance, of course, which was on the sweet side. It also had elements of mystery and action... not much, but a little.
If you are a fan of western contemporary romances than this book is definitely for you.
It was alright for an author's first edition. I found some grammatical errors that were a little annoying. Using "too" where "to" should have been used and "onto" when it should have been "on to". In fact, there were a lot of places where a space between two words were missing. In any case, the story was really predictable. The characters could have been developed more. But overall, a quick easy read.
I really enjoyed the story here. Such a great love story with some mild peril and suspense. The writing was well done and it had a nice flow to it. I loved the western setting.
This book was filled with language though. Everything shy of the F word, multiple times.
There were sexual situations although it mostly happened behind closed doors.
Was a pretty good quick read, although I didn't find it to be extremely realistic. I couldn't help but feel like it was really missing something, though. I can't put my finger on it... (potential spoiler alert???) - perhaps it was the lack of a real courtship between the 2 characters. Not sure. It was worth reading, though.
Really enjoyable book.Misty married her homeschool sweetheart who turned out to be not so sweet .She returns to her family after her husband cheats on her and she feels an attraction for two men but one is not all he seems to be.
There were parts of the story line that didn't get completed - like - what happened to Vance? There were some grammar problems also - maybe not edited as well as it should have been. Just OK.
