Without honor, a wizard's nothing but a scruffy man with a stick in his pocket. But honor comes at a price, and I sure as hell paid it.
What started as a favor for a vampire—the kind of favor you can't refuse—quickly turned into something epic and life-changing. A team was organized, and we set about performing the largest heist in magical history. Unsurprisingly, things didn't go swimmingly.
Even as plans unraveled, and the death count rose, I was unprepared for the depths of treachery and the repercussions for what I'd done.
If that wasn't enough, Death was acting weird, I was having a very bad hair day, and my sex life, or usual lack of, got very complicated, very quickly.
Still, my honor remained intact, just not a lot else.
Hi, I'm Arthur "The Hat" Salzman. Gangster. Wizard. Not amused.
Full Disclosure – I was provided a copy of the book by the author as a member of his “A-Team” however have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Honor among thieves
Honor Bound is the fifth in the Wildcat Wizard series of novels by author Al K. Line. Taking place roughly nine months after Angel Eyes, Arthur’s life has finally resumed a semblance of normalcy. Vicky and the girls have been moved to a swanky new house provided by big brother Ivan and Arthur has even started a budding relationship with shifter coffee house owner, Candy. All seems to be well indeed, and that’s usually when things start to go sideways. Ivan, at the request of Mikalus approaches Arthur with a personal request from the vampire First. One last job – one last favor and then all debts will be paid. In the recent months, Cerberus and their newest head Carmichael have become increasingly more aggressive in their quest to obtain all items magical for inclusion in their vault. Mikalus seeks to regain what’s rightfully his, but this will not be an easy task even if the spoils will be great. Arthur assembles a who’s who of magical muscle, but it’s only too late that he finds out that there is more at stake than a few musty old books. Getting out of this mess may be the end of Arthur, Vicky and everything he holds dear.
Honor Bound is packed with action and for me this was probably the darkest of the Wildcat Wizard books thus far. Arthur puts everything on the line to take this promised last job for the vampires and he is determined to make it worth his while. Cobbling together an impressive list of accomplices and associates (think “Ocean’s Eleven – Hat style) Arthur and Vicky have planned the perfect heist, but of course nothing is perfect in Arthur’s world. Watching the Hat navigate the aftermath and various bombshells (both literally and figuratively) that are thrown his way only serve to make him more determined to end this one way or another. While mostly a dark story, there were still some great comedic bits as well with the introduction of Wand. I love Wand! He’s like the mouthy little devil on your shoulder saying all the things you wish you could. I hope to see Wand play more prominently in the next installment and the future books in this series for as long as it lasts. Considering the next book currently has a working title of Lost Hope, I’m expecting the darkness to reach levels even higher (or lower?) than what Honor Bound brought. Hopefully Vicky, George, and Wand will be there to keep Arthur from meeting Death for the final time.
This is the fifth book in the Wild Cat Wizard series. Arthur has enjoyed a little time to himself without any jobs for a few months. Then, Ivan calls in his favor in a big way: he wants Arthur and Vicky to pull off a massive heist. The only way Arthur can do it is to call in a bunch of people. But, when the heist goes wrong in a big way, he may lose the people close to him if he doesn’t get to the bottom of the failed job. I have not made a secret of the fact that I love Mr. Line’s books, and that this is my favorite series by him. But, wow, this book was my favorite of the series. Yes, it was full of the same fast action, great writing, and wonderful characters I’ve come to expect, but what made this one stand out so much is there was one point in the book I was like “No, he can’t go there!!!” I was in shock. I can’t say too much about this as I’ll spoil it, but I should have known and not been so surprised (hmm, what do I mean?!?). This point in the plot was just great, and I love being surprised. Anyway, the book was great, and if you are a fan, you will love it, too. If you haven’t read the series, you need to start at the beginning and enjoy the ride!! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Honor Bound is the fifth book in the Wildcat Wizard series by Al K. Line. The complete series is available in a boxset, twelve books for the price of one #winning. What a great way to get your book-binge on. The Wildcat Wizard Complete Collection Box Set contains the entire Wildcat Wizard series by Al K. Line. It is an epic, original, and intriguing urban fantasy series - woven with wizards, vampires, magic, paranormal elements, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, danger, drama, humour, heists, quests, the supernatural, and interesting quirky characters. The Hat is a great character, he’s a bit of an anti-hero, as he gets caught up in quite an adventure (or two) with a few heists, mobsters, criminals, villains, and dangerous and dramatic developments to contend with. Along with his fairy godmother, they take us on quite a ride- one you won’t forget anytime soon. Happy Reading…
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Arthur “The Hat” Salzman rarely gets it right first time round. "Honor Bound" is no exception, a spectacular heist goes badly wrong and Arthur is on everybody's hit list. That's not so unusual there's always someone out to get him. But, if there is one thing we have learned over the series it is that you don't mess with Arthur's family without paying a heavy price. So, when Arthur and those he loves are attacked by both the Vampires and Cerberus he takes the war back to them, along with his newly-acquired sentient Wand! Arthur's sex life takes a turn for the better on several fronts and he continues to visit Death on a regular basis. It's probably the best in the series to date - it fairly zips along with plenty of action, several totally unexpected events with Vicky, and a very good reason to move home! 4 Stars
Arthur, the Wildcat Wizard, is back and as brash as ever. With his life approaching something like normalcy, and in new digs, he’s offered a job he can’t refuse from the vampire First. Honor bound to complete his new mission, but as usual, things go from bad to worse, and the bodies quickly start piling up.
Honor Bound by Al K. Line is the fifth book in the Wildcat Wizard series, and Arthur and his hat are mired in the usual controversy, with enough action to get your blood pumping and the heat flowing on a cold winter’s day.
Lots of supernatural hanky-panky to jazz up your reading. I received a free copy of this one, and it doesn’t disappoint.
What an incredible series. Each book is better than the last. This one was my favorite because a lot of loose ends from prior books were cleaned up. This is as good as urban fantasy gets. Although I can read them for free with kindle unlimited, these books are so good,I am buying them. That is my ultimate compliment.
Love the adventures of the Wildcat Wizard and all of his friends! If you like a lot of humor in your urban fantasy, you can’t go wrong with this series. Looking forward to the next.
