3.5 stars This book has an interesting story; unfortunately it is very long and confusing. It definitely does not end on a cliffhanger!
The book starts off in one place and then goes backward in time to the real beginning. I don’t know that this was necessary as it repeats the whole thing later in the timeline. Eladia is a Chronicler. She has come to Earth to look for a relic. Earth is no longer the home of humans, all the cities have been abandoned and there are dangerous things lurking in the dark. Eladia finds a space ship and a cryo pod containing a humanoid life form. Jasih, or Jay as Eladia calls him, has no idea why he is on Earth or why he has been asleep on over one hundred years. His ship is not flyable, so he agrees to join with Eladia and her robot, Silver in their search for the relic and transportation off the planet.
They find another humanoid, apparently a new evolution of humans is already beginning to form on the planet. They name this one Zan and he also joins their group.
When trouble strikes them Jay seems to turn into another man, one covered in armor and capable of protecting himself quite well. Eladia refers to this side of Jay as Dark Jay and he will play a large part in the book.
I am not going to try to explain the book to you. I will let you read it for yourself as it is quite complicated. There were quite a few thing that I still don’t understand!
I received an ARC of this book from the author. My review is voluntary.
This story is set on Earth in 2514 AD when the planet is abandoned and humans have spread to other planets in the galaxy. Eladia is a Chronicler and together with Silver her AI robot her tries to find artefacts and some mystery. There she meets Jasih an alien who has been in stasis since he crashed on Earth. Jasih has a dark secret and seems to have 2 personalities trapped in the one body. Can they work together to solve what is known as the Great Mystery and can they prevail when there are people around them trying to stop their progress?
This is much more like a true Science Fiction story with just a little alien mate thrown in for good measure so you might not enjoy this story if you are not into pure science fiction. I liked the descriptions of the worlds and the people and events there as they were very clear and easy to understand. I did find the emotion parts of the story a bit intense at times and the dual personality aspect didn't always help until I got a fair amount through the story and understood it better. This definitely didn't feel like a love story and was much more like science fiction with a bit of sex thrown in for good measure. The ending was good and I liked the way the story finally came to a stop.
I received a free copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review. I am not going to go over my notes because I have over 2 pages long; I'm just going to point out a few thoughts. 1. The word "things" appears over 300 times and could have been replaced easily by words such as garment, furniture, oath, etc. 2. The book is 491 pages and could have fit easily in about 200 pages. This was originally a serial which was then put together as a whole and it shows. You can identify clearly where one part ends and where the next one starts. The end is like a commercial coming during a show and the start is where they explain everything again even though we've been reading about it since the beginning. 3. This is not a romance; it's a science-fiction with a side of lust. There is no love here unless you count the very last chapter of the book. 4. Editing, editing, editing. It's awful, it's confusing at times and it's really annoying. 5. Usually a book with this length takes me about 8 hours to finish; this time it took me over 15 hours. I didn't want to finish it but I owed myself and Hidden Gems the end and a review, despite the fact that the whole story dragged on and on.
I voluntarily read this Advanced Reader Copy and have to add that I’ve added Ashley L. Hunt to my preferred author list. However, this book had me confused from several angles. From the start I felt like I was missing something important and had to continually go back and forth to see what it might have been. Because of that I didn’t enjoy the read as much as I have her other works, but in saying that it was truly a different slant on most Sci-Fi stories with the many twists and suspense. Her characters are still very vivid and Eladia and Jasih keep you wondering what they will get up to next. Eladia seems to be a trouble magnet for sure, and Jasih (even with his two faces as explained) is always there for the rescue.
This isn't a book I'd re-read mainly because it was work to get through. Though it was a good story once you got into it, I just didn't feel the flow.
Some spoilers will be given, reader beware! I liked the book, the world building was interesting and I think it could have been used much more as part of the story. Regarding the cover: This is a space opera, with interesting plot points, some hits and misses, that's why a nude torso seems a bit formulaic for me and it can scare future male readers. SPOILERS: The split personality explanation comes at chapter 51, be patient, go on the ride that is Jay' s adventure. There is too much sex, I don't think it is needed AT ALL (Never thought I would go on the CLEAN bandwagon) it seems forced and out place. Will try one more book by Ms. Hunt.
Jasih is a great alien romance story. The female lead, Eladia, is a basically a futuristic archaeologist who is in search of clue to what is called "The Great Mystery". Her search brought her to Earth, which has turned back into a primordial place and while searching for an artifact discovers the male lead, Jasih, in a cryo-pod. Things occur rather quickly from then on while she continues her search with her band of friends. Lots of drama and action and the story leaves you continually wondering if they will solve "The Great Mystery" and if all will end well. Don't worry, Eladia and Jasih get their HEA but be sure to read because this book keeps you guessing right up to the end!
I love science fiction, I'm a huge star wars fan, so when I get the opportunity to read a story about space and alien civilizations I jump at the chance, throw in a love story and I'm jumping in my seat. From the first page Ashley had my attention with Jasih, who finds himself with no memory and mood swings. Eladia is strong and brave doesn't take crap from Jasih, I liked the adventure and that it wasn't a an instant attraction type in your pants type romance. I voluntarily read a copy of this book and really enjoyed it to the end, but that isn't a shock I have enjoyed all of Ashleys books.
As usual another great story from Ashley. This was a great adventure and had different aspects of this story. It begins with two main character points of view, Jasih and Eladia and with a third Alyce joining alittle in the last part of the book. I had to read over a few parts because I didn't grasp parts but once I did I followed it no problem. It is a great story and worth reading especially if you like adventure and a little kick ass action and not forgetting the love interest you will love it.
This one just didn't hold my interest. I read a lot of books! I rarely don't finish one just because I have to know what happens to the characters. In this one, I just didn't care. Jasih, the Alien, had multiple personalities that just got annoying. One minute he's nice and the next, he's the dark one. Eladia couldn't pronounce his name so she nicknamed him Jay. Everyone else who meets him seems to be able to pronounce his name...
I can't tell you how it ends because I didn't finish it. I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of this book.
I felt so confused while reading this book, like I missed something. And when one adventure ends another begins, then the story jumps to a year later. I didn't know it was a year later until the characters stated how long time had passed. I went backwards to see if I maybe skipped a chapter, but nope I didn't. I like that the author has a very vivid imagination and is really descriptive when describing things. The storyline is intriguing and I like the cover. I cannot really say too much, I might have to do a re-read some time in the future.
I usually really enjoy Ashley's paranormal sci-fi romances, but this one was a little too hard to follow. Not sure where the disconnect was, but perhaps there was just too much going on in this book. It was still intriguing, just difficult to really get into. I liked Eladia and Jasih/Dark Jay, but there were moments I found myself re-reading to figure out what I had missed. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and also bought a copy.
I have to be honest and say I did not finish this book and I probably never will, it's confusing and jumps all over the place without an explanation. So much could have been done with this book to make it better but probably not by a lot. There truly is no story here and not worth a read. If I had to guess I would have said this was written by a kid as a school assignment. My apologies to the author but NOT a good read.
Second book in the series and I want the next one when it is out .Eladia, a Chronicler in her search to find a Nusae relic, wakes Jasih from his hundred year sleep but he has no memory of who or why he is where he is. This is a book of zombies ,a robot assistant called Silver, humanoid boy they call Zan, a villain it all comes together in one very interesting story.
Ashley L Hunt you are an amazing writer and I loved the book it was a little slow at the start but once the pieces started to come together I couldn't put it down, the two main characters Jasih and Eladia have to work together to solve mystery. I would totally recommend this book to everyone I loved it carnt wait for the next one. I voluntarily read an arc copy of this book for an honest review.
If you like adventures, sci fi, mysteries, fantasies, romances , secret societies and murder this book is written for you. The pace is fast packed action, with lots of twists and turns. Love the characters, Eladia, the Chronicler, looking to solve the great mystery . Jasih, an alien, with a lost memory, and Silver, Eladia's A I robot. Well worth the read😊
Another wonderful story by Ashley Hunt! Full of adventure, fun twists, and sexiness. Not my favorite book, but definitely one that I would recommend. This series has been a lot of fun to read about and this book is no exception. I really enjoyed this read!
Suspenseful, adventurous and emotional with plenty of complex twists and turns and mystery. Jasih took a little longer for me to get into the story, certainly not a read where interruptions will disturb you. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This book was just as great as the previous one? There's plenty of action, adventure, mystery, and steamy romance with awesome characters? A must buy and keep them coming.
Exciting sci-fi alien romance with mystery and adventure. Interesting plot with very well describe characters. The end of the story was a amazing surprise. If you enjoy alien romances this is story for you.
This "book" was awful. Disjointed, long winded, and skipping about; it was more than hard to follow, it was painful. I have never been more relieved to see the word "epilogue" only to discover there were two of them! Just let this night mare end!
Interesting plot and characters. I found the writing to be grammatically off. That being said I find the writing average, however it has greater potential. I hope the others are better written.
The story is a bit confused, and while this is a prequel with the expectation that much will be explained in the subsequent series, this short introductory piece seems to be all over the place. There does not seem to be a cohesive narrative. In addition, a good proofreader would help, as the prose is poorly written.
