Interesting time capsule back to the American Victorian era, this beautiful book with full color illustrations documents the guests and meals at the Campbell table during the Gilded Age. I purchased a signed edition on a summer 2016 tour of the house museum in St Louis; for many years, the museum held a fund raising dinner based on Virginia Campbell's recipes, all of which have been updated for the modern table here. Many illustrations and notes with the recipes transport the reader back to a time when fine dining occurred not at a restaurant, but around a well-appointed family table. My high school history students were amazed at the cutlery used for a single meal and the lengthy, exotic menus.
