Rate this book
"Konkoly merges the best of the techno-thriller and post-apocalyptic genres in a smart, relentlessly paced story about survival, family and loyalty." Amazon reviewer

Books 2-5 in the ALEX FLETCHER series in one Over 1500 pages of post-apocalyptic thriller action and suspense.

THE PERSEID COLLAPSE (Book 2):

In the face of an unthinkable catastrophe, how far would you go to protect your family?

In the very near future, an inconceivable attack against the United States will unleash a human darkness over the country--with a vast appetite for chaos and violence. Alex Fletcher, former Marine, will wake to this brutally hostile landscape, thrown headfirst into an epic, impossibly grueling journey to save his family and friends.

EVENT HORIZON (Book 3):

The critically acclaimed, post-apocalyptic saga continues...

With Boston collapsing faster than Alex Fletcher predicted, his personal rescue mission deep into the heart of an increasingly unfamiliar city reaches a critical point. Pursued by a ruthless militia group, and forced to navigate a treacherous landscape, he runs a gauntlet of grim decisions and impossible odds to reach perceived safety. Perceived because nothing is safe in the world emerging after the "event"

In rural Maine, a series of lethal coincidences fuels a local militia leader's ghastly strategy to raise a private army, planting the Fletchers firmly at the intersection of his power play--and the epicenter of his rage.

The human darkness released continues to grow, threatening to tear the fabric of their fragile society apart...until nothing remains but a distant memory of the past.

POINT OF CRISIS (Book 4):

In the aftermath of the brutal attack on his family compound, Alex Fletcher embraces his rapidly expanding role within the New England Regional Recovery Zone (RRZ).

Fueled by a limitless drive to protect his family and a rekindled sense of duty, he enlists the reluctant aid of a local militia commander--to ease the public's fears of a federal government takeover.

As Captain Fletcher digs deeper into the government's plans, he starts to question the federal government's intentions--and ability to stabilize the situation in New England. With the region's critical infrastructure destroyed and the nation's electrical grid crippled,
he foresees a human cataclysm, with several hundred thousand desperate refugees marching further north through Maine.

The bad news doesn't end there.

Alex discovers that Eli Russell has rebuilt his militia--with the intention of hastening the Regional Recovery Zone's downfall. Obsessed with stopping the deranged psychopath that attacked his family, Alex scours the back roads and rural towns of southern Maine to find him--unaware that Eli's plans are far more personal.

With the world swiftly unraveling around him, Alex will face his most difficult decisions ever...

DISPATCHES (Book 5):

With the United States crippled, belligerent powers rise to fill the void overseas, catapulting already volatile regions into chaos and war--hastening a worldwide collapse.

On the home front, most citizens continue to struggle with the loss of power and critical infrastructure, exhausting their thin supplies and turning to the mercy of an overwhelmed government to survive the winter.

As spring arrives, Alex Fletcher faces a difficult choice. With their food supplies running low, Alex questions the feasibility of staying with the Thorntons and Walkers at their isolated lake community. While searching northern Maine for a solution to his dilemma--he stumbles on a secret with the potential to destabilize the entire region.

Steven graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993, receiving a bachelor of science in English literature. He served the next eight years on active duty, traveling the world as a naval officer assigned to various Navy and Marine Corps units. His extensive journey spanned the globe, including a two-year tour of duty in Japan and travel to more than twenty countries throughout Asia and the Middle East.

From enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq as a maritime boarding officer in the Arabian Gulf, to directing aircraft bombing runs and naval gunfire strikes as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) assigned to a specialized Marine Corps unit, Steven's "in-house" experience with a wide range of regular and elite military units brings a unique authenticity to his thrillers.

He still wakes up at "zero dark thirty" to write for most of the day. When "off duty," he spends as much time as possible outdoors or travelling with his family--and dog.

Steven is the bestselling author of ten novels and several novellas, including a commissioned trilogy of novellas based on the popular Wayward Pines series. His canon of work includes the popular Black Flagged Series, a gritty, no-holds barred covert operations and espionage saga; The Perseid Collapse series, a post-apocalyptic thriller epic chronicling the events surrounding an inconceivable attack on the United States; and The Fractured State series, a near future, dystopian thriller trilogy set in the drought ravaged southwest

The Fletchers thought they had learned their lesson from the Jakarta Pandemic and had prepped for any emergency.

They didn't count on an asteroid breaking up and cratering much of the east coast and creating a tsunami that washed over much of the same coast. Then the power goes off, as if an EMP had been detonated. Alex, Kate and the young Fletchers rode out the tsunami in their boat, but found chaos and devastation left behind.

The struggle to survive in this new situation brought out the best and worst behaviors for those trying to stay safe, and those who just wanted to take advantage to get some for themselves. The characters are richly wrapped in tidy descriptions, so it was no trouble falling in love with them, or despising them so deeply that you want to see how much pain they can take! The action is realistic and engulfing. The storyline wraps around and over the characters and action, with nonstop twists to keep you invested.

I enjoyed these books and I think you will too.

This book started out great with an interesting plot and wonderful characters. I was so interested that I ordered the three other books in the series before I had even finished the first. Book one was good but, by the middle of book two, things began to break down (for me at least). So many characters were added that I had no idea who was who. The military jargon was too technical, too prevalent and too confusing. I started skipping whole pages. I ended up skipping to the end. Very disappointing. You never really find out the whole story.

Plus, I have to tell you, I am really tired of this new format whereby you are stalled out in the middle of a book and you have to purchase three others to try to get a complete picture (which, as I said, does not happen in this series anyway). It's all about chi-ching and not the bling. Let's write one GOOD book with well developed characters and an intense plot instead of four books filled with extraneous details inserted just to fill a page.

If you enjoy reading exciting, post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction, this four-book set is for you. It also saved your having to wait between books!

Set in Maine, Alex Fletcher, and his group of family and friends, bond together to survive whatever fate put in their path.

Major themes throughout the series include: the importance of family, friends help friends, and “Once a Marine, always a Marine!”.

The reader is presented with realistic situations that stir emotions, while inspiring thought while making connections with real-world situations.

I recommend this for middle school and older readers. You will not be disappointed!

same time, someone hits the east coast with
an EMP.

Lots and LOTS of Action ...

The Perseid Collapse series is heavy on “Prepper” responses, and is not pro-US Military or government. The books are good and cover a lot of ground for how the Alex Fletcher family might survive one obstacle after another, but there is a LOT of confusion (and not many details written) on the rest of the USA and world, in general.

All four books!

Yes, I am a Steven Konkoly fan. Yes, I have read this book before. That said...it is so much better to read the whole set than wait for the next book to come out. Absolutely loved it.

WOW!! This is a great omnibus that starts with an asteroid/EMP strike in the Atlantic Ocean. The situation spirals out of control rapidly but Alex is determined to bring his family through. These four books detail his successes and failures.

What a thriller.

The devil is in the detail and the details in this book are fantastic. From the families to the marines I willed them all to survive this horrendous collapse in the United States. Fantastic story, graphic and violent and highly emotional.

Very well written and human story

The accuracy of the military aspects was impressive. The fast paced action made compelling reading. The survivalist and pepper details were also quite interesting and informative.

Good story line and characters, plot was a little too predictable and too much gun detail for me.

Intense

This was a really prolonged and intense set of books. The most scary thing is that all of this is conceivable.
