Now hunted by the most feared gang in Grim Dudgeon, spell slingers, and demons, the young boy learns quickly that the only thing in Otherworld that is easy is dying. Welcome to Grim Dudgeon. Here there be monsters.

It is the struggle that defines us.
It started out a bit slow, but then became practically non-stop action. I found it hard to put down. Loved the story and the variety of characters. Got a big kick out of the nod to Jango. Definitely looking forward to more...
I don't recall ever pumping my fist and saying "hell yeah!" while reading the epilogue of a book, but that's exactly what I did (in a doctor's waiting room) while reading this one. Action-packed from page one with a fantastic cast of characters and a story that never lets up, this book was hard to put down on the couple of occasions that I was forced to. I've been a fan of this author for years and have watched him make huge strides as a storyteller. Mr. Nye brings his usual brutal literary onslaught to book one in the Dead Boy series, but also starts to build worlds that I hope to explore further some time in the very near future.
Dead Boy was definitely a new and interesting turn for Cedric Nye. It's nothing less than a delightfully fantastical blood bath. The story is filled with rich mythical back story and exciting characters. The author creates vivid imagery that helps to really bring the story to life. I look forward to diving deeper into this fictional universe in future books.
This was a really great read! Kind of like Mad Max meets Harry Potter. I ended up reading this in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, fantasy, or just a good action packed story. FIVE STARS!
(Disclaimer: I received a copy from the Author. This does not affect my review.)
Review: The book sits at 94 pages so it is a fast read. The main character is 12 years old but it doesn’t really feel like a children’s book or a young adult’s book. The violence and fighting also point to it not really being an children’s book. Pretty much all this book is violence and fighting. It doesn’t feel over the top or overused. It feels right to the story being told.
With it being so short you do feel like the fighting was rushed a bit, that and the main character is like a god ninja. So it wasn’t highly detailed, just bam dead. The world building in a very small amount of pages is very impressive. There is a very high impression of more to come as well.
I did feel a little ‘cheated’ with how easy it ended, was a big build up and then it was just over. But the main character is not one for unnecessary violence even though he could kill everything.
**Review by the author**Finished reading through this as a reader(as best I could, without bias), and enjoyed Welcome to Grim Dudgeon very much. I was concerned that by toning down my usual level of ultra-violence that the story would suffer, but it did not. There are a couple or three minor editing errors, but overall, this was a very good read.
A really enjoyable read especially once we enter the world of Grim Dudgeon. The characters evolve nicely as the story progresses, and there's even a nod towards Cedric's greatest character to date, zombie fighter Jango. I think this is going to be a great series to follow.
Cedric Nye weaves well. The verbiage heartily sprouts a wonderful foliage in dis valley of storytelling which will shade you frum [boredom] . . . I expect a trail to be discovered that leads to another valley of digital delight soon . . .
