This was one of those books that i kept putting down and picking up randomly for months. I enjoyed the interviews so much but i do wish they had a bit more depth to them. Some of them were super interesting and others didn't hit me as hard. Definitely a cool way to take in this content from a different platform, i very much enjoyed it.
I've typed and deleted a phrase similar to "this is a must-read for any emo fan" about five times to start this review, and I just can't bring myself to say something so cliche. Plus, hopefully most emo fans heard these interviews the first time around on the podcast.
Whether you have or haven't, this book is a great walk down memory lane, and a really great insight to the early days of the scene from some of the true heroes of the underground. Hopefully, there will be more editions to come; I know I'll gladly buy any new ones Tom decides to put out.
Honestly, it’s not a great “book” but a collection. You see lots of typos or mistranscribes. But the benefit of this collection is that it brought up a lot of fond memories of where I was when I discovered these bands for the first time, and reminds me of how I connect to music. It reminds me that somehow, someway everyone deserves to have a creative outlet.
A wonderful collection of interviews. Curated and arranged very well so that references to contemporary bands flow into one another from The Promise Ring to Mineral. Anyone who grew up in any scene will enjoy this.
