Caissa is the final book in the Red Gambit series. The war approaches its end as the soldiers, sailors, and airmen on each side steel themselves for the final efforts. In Russia, the conspirators plot the overthrow of a regime that has all but crippled their nation, but the plans and the treachery never quite come to fruition. In the Allied nations, particularly America, the pressures to end the war and use the bomb mount. Around the peace table in Sweden, the pursuit of a negotiated armistice appears to continue unchecked, despite both alliances standing ready and prepared to wreak unspeakable acts of violence upon the other. In the cold waters of the North Atlantic, on the tiny island of Cyprus, and airbases in Iran and Russia, men whose actions will change the world prepare to do their duty to the land of their fathers. [The ‘Red Gambit Series’ novels are works of fiction, and deal with fictional events. Most of the characters therein are a figment of the author’s imagination. Without exception, those characters that are historical figures of fact or based upon historical figures of fact are used fictitiously, and their actions, demeanour, conversations, and characters are similarly all figments of the author’s imagination.]
The very best series I have read in a very long time. Even hand from all sides, very believable story-line, great characters and first rate action. I found myself wiping tears at the end. Might have been for the series being over but more likely the way it ends. Gee wraps up the major characters in ways that were surprising but totally within the story arc. Looking forward to more books from this great author.
I have read many action books including alternate history but I just have to say this series with the last book tying them call together was brilliant ,just a brilliant set of books that should put Colin Gee at the top of action and alternate history writers. I would give this series 10 stars of I could.
Absolutely brilliant! I only downloaded this yesterday ( as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription) and found it compelling - all the loose ends from the 7th novel were tied up. A fitting end to a fantastic series!!
After the first couple of books, I simply had to finish the series. As an American growing up during the height of the Cold War, I of course, thought of the Russian soldiers as the enemy-animals-only to kill or be killed! Thanks for the enlightenment that Mr. Gee has bought to me, it is possible for me to finally realize that we are all in this together as human beings, as passengers on this oh so small blue green ball! Thank you very much.
Just like all the other books ahead of it, this one did not disappoint. The book maintained its excitement to turn the next page just as all others had. That straining desire to read what happens next. Gee did a great job of wrapping everything up in a very realistic way. The intrigue found throughout the series continued right up to the last page. What a fantastic conclusion to one of the best series I have every read.
The author continued with characters we knew so well as he described unspeakable horror as well as treachery visited on both sides by devious leaders. Excellent if dad wrap up of the lives of people we had become so familiar with. This should be required reading for all who would ever contemplate nuclear war. Quick! Translate this into Korean!
The finish to a series on the war between Russia and the Allies started in 1946 (note: this is a work of fiction). Series is excellent with few technical errors and a good plot. Well researched and well written. Recommended.
It has been a great reading experience, well researched books with well rounded believable characters. An absolute pleasure. Look forward to reading more from the author.
Sit back ....poor a strong coffee ...or maybe something stronger ...and enjoy ...enjoy a well researched read , obviously a massive series, but make the effort, it's worth it .
The final book was abbreviated and a notvery satisfying end to an otherwise satisfying series. It is tough to bring things to conclusion but this could have been better.
