A nice, handy guide to demons, spirits, creatures of the night, and other supernatural beings. Not a complete guide by any means, but it sheds new light on well known creatures, and introduces you to some you have not heard of. A good book that can be used as a stepping off point of reference for writing or other creative ventures. Not many illustrations but enough that do not get in the way of the texts.
A brief account of various demonic and other supernatural beings and occurrences. Most of these are viewed from a Christian tradition (almost a third of the book is devoted to the Devil, Hell and his Court; Faeries are portrayed as fallen angels – too wicked for Heaven but not evil enough for Hell; Werewolves as mortals who made Satanic pacts, etc.). The author covers a lot of ground and doesn’t do a bad job of it, although his account of Haitain Voodoo is laughable and he fails to mention that Scot’s Discoverie of Witchcraft actually denies that witches have any magical powers. Easy to read, but not in-depth.
This book is really just a compendium of knowledge about how people view "evil spirits" and demons and the like. It's really quite amusing in that regard, given that all of the information presented is fiction, but was fervently believed by someone (or many people) at some point, and sometimes still today. It's a neat book though, and a good summary.
This book was recommended for use as a source of research in dealing with Ethereal and Inter-dimensional beings. While it was a fascinating read, it did not provide me with the information I was looking for. If you are interested in Demonology, this is a must-read.
This is a good reference book on Angels and evil spirits. At first I thought this a novel but it is a compilation of knowledge on the subject. I refer back to this book from time to time to look up what I am interested in learning about. Worth it to keep as a reference
Really cool. In this book it covers a lot: shades, spirits, demons, witchcraft, local legends and origins of supernatural beings. The only thing I would correct is he said Odin is the Nordic God of War: no, he's the All Father. Otherwise cool, quick read. ;)
An interesting listing of the fallen angels and other creatures. The chapters include a preface, Satan and his Court. Caution: Demons at Work, Vampires Werewolves and Zombies, Witches and Witchcraft, and Apparitions. There is a glossary, a bibliography, and illustration credits. Pretty freaky!
Interesting book that tells the hierarchy of hell and the major demons of Satan's legions. It draws on several earlier sources for it's information. Recommended if you enjoy this sort of thing
