It wasn’t bad enough that she found out she had to go to a school for witches, but finding out that she’s dealing with dragons, that’s going a little bit too far.
With classes like Advanced Spellcasting, Mystical History, Mortal History, Introduction to Spells, and Artifacts 101, you’d think Ever would be too busy to try to learn more about the mysterious guy with those haunting blue eyes named Slade that keeps haunting her dreams and showing up at random places.
You’d think that a kiss from Jared—The Jared Winchester The Third—would occupy what time her classes didn’t. But, no. Not Everest. She wants answers. She wants to know more about Slade, her mother, her father, not to mention being a First Descendant.
Why is being a teenager so complicated when you’re a witch that dragons fear?
This read like really bad fan fiction— and that comparison feels like an insult to fan fiction. My standards are on the ground for Kindle Unlimited fantasy books...but this was sub-basement level. You can see the "twists" coming from miles away. I enjoy tropes. I find comfort in them. However, this novel somehow kills any of those feelings. There are two POVs—one of which is the majority of the book. I think the second POV that was randomly shoved in there should've been cut. I found the main character's inner dialogue (or lack thereof) incredibly irritating. Her lack of understanding/intelligence is used to further the plot. Read as: the plot is so weak it required the main character to be incredibly naive and oblivious in order for anything to happen. This book captures all the worst parts of late 2000s early 2010s paranormal love triangles and twists them into one of the worst imitations I've ever read.
Excellent book. Riveting! Would have given it 5 stars...But!
The story ends on a cliffhanger, so you have to buy the next book as absolutely NOTHING is resolved in this one. I did get this book as a freebie on Amazon; noticed that the remaining books in the series are priced at $2.99 with 5 books in the series at this time. So, while I wouldn't hesitate to buy the next book to see SOMETHING of Everest story resolved, I have no trust that the author won't leave me hanging off a cliff again. Yes, I understand that authors have to leave you excited enough to want to buy the next book, but I felt like I had just read ½ a book. Grrrrr! Looks like next book leaves you hanging too! Frankly, this authors ability is better than that.
A really entertaining coming of age story with added dragon's and witches. Really well written with strong characters. Everest the teenager who had to grow up a little too fast, looking after her younger brother and their drunk of a mother, Slade the mysterious protector and Jared the handsome boy in class.. Everest has enough I n her plate without suddenly discovering she is a witch and that dragon's are real. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
With her dad missing for as long as she can remember and her mum an alcoholic prone to disappearing for days at a time or longer, Everest leaves school to care for her younger brother. Then someone tries to kill her...
Thrust into a world filled with witches dragons and magic, Everest manages to hold it together and work towards unravelling a war against the wrong enemy
This started out well, tsking us pretty quickly through events, then it slowed down for a little while and i almost put the book down. But I am glad I didn't because it sped back up and left us hanging. Definitely worth getting through. Helped us understand the characters a little better too.
Everest doesn't know what she is and when she finds out, things are blown out the door. The leader of the bad guys wants her, another one is trying to save her and a third party is falling for her fast.. it sounds convoluted (well, truthfully it kind of is) but it all makes sense. I have already ordered the next one!
This is a read again book! The characters are well drawn, the plot is interesting and exciting. It is not your usual high school story at all. Prejudices blind some characters to what is going on in their world until they are bought face to face with potential disaster. Enjoy the magic!
Great introduction to the story and the characters involved from the beginning, which is quite dramatic considering the circumstances she is introduced to this world she didn't realise exists. Thrown into the deep end she adapts fairly quick with the help of new friends . The storyline is fascinating and captivating for me and I look forward to read the next book of this series.
Unexpectedly delightfulnew take on a very old good vs evil story.
Loved the characters more realistic them some. Looking forward to more. Questions are answered and new relationships explored Family and love conquer all.
I’m a sucker for dragons!!! There, I said it! This book deserves more than 5 stars, that’s for sure! Angst, mystery, intrigue, perfect edge, twists all around, this fascinating story has it all!
This book has all the right elements, Love, family and politics. This is a light read and it will keep you at the end of your seat. I can not wait to read the sequel. Enjoy! .
Supernatural delight, I absolutely loved this first in a series. Everest is rave, outspoken and loyal. I have a crush on Space and can barely wait to begin book 2.
