A salad is anything but a variety of “grass”. Continuing in the same vein, this book is an attempt to change the general view about salads. In addition, it gives a range of ideas to health conscious people; to play around with their “typical” salad recipes. The book introduces some commonly used ‘greens’ in salads, basic salad types, many exotic recipes and a range of dressings’ recipes that go along with many salads. A bowl of salad is an amazing mix of nutrients. Fibers are the main component of greens, which aids in digestion. They help to maintain a healthy cholesterol levels and even control effects of heart disease. Each ingredient in your bowl of salad is packed with different vitamins which are needed by your body every day. Vitamins like A, B, C and K are known for their beneficial effects on your skin, bones, hair and teeth. These vitamins also regulate your mood swings and generally keep you happy and energized. Salads are also a good source of minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron etc. These and other minerals boost the metabolism, maintain the body fluid balance and aids in better functioning of heart and nerves. The addition of meat and lentils provide your body with much needed proteins. Do you need more excuses for not to eat a bowl of salad in your lunch or dinner? So, next time, if anyone argues that salad is thefood for cows or rabbits or it is not even a meal; then be content. Because you are the one who has made a right choice.
