Bestselling author Hayley Stevens life is turned upside down when she finds her husband is in bed with her best friend. Feeling betrayed, hurt and angry, Hayley must face up to what happened and somehow make a fresh life for herself.

Packing up her belongings Hayley heads west for Lochway, a little colonial village situated on the beautiful MacDonald River. It is here where Hayley hopes to find peace, serenity and tranquility. A place where she can get away and find inspiration for her writing. Only she didn't plan on meeting handsome neighbour, Luke Mason and Errol the noisy donkey.

With every passing day, Hayley starts to settle into her new surroundings and she begins to get back into her writing. Hayley feels like her life is finally starting to turn a corner, but will this continue.

Aussie author Karly Lane has once again written another enjoyable, fun and entertaining book. Highly recommended.

I always welcome a new Karly Lane novel with a big embrace. I admire Lane’s innate ability to present the reader with heart-warming characters, touches of humour, breathtaking romances and compelling storylines, all of which are set to a true blue Aussie rural setting. Someone Like You is a book I adored and I hope you do too!

At the heart of Karly Lane’s eleventh novel is Hayley Stevens. Hayley is a well-known author, but when Someone Like You opens, we soon discover that Hayley is suffering from writer’s block and nursing a broken heart over the loss of her marriage. In an attempt to gain the upper hand over her life, Hayley packs her car and travels away from the city, to the country. Her destination is Lochway, a quaint colonial village nestled near the stunning Macdonald River. Hayley buys a sweet little cottage in the small village and feels certain this is the place that will break her dry spell on the writing front. To help Hayley on her revived writing journey is a Errol, a donkey with a big personality, along with a bevy of other animals. Then handsome neighbour Luke makes his presence known and it is love at first sight between these two leads. As Hayley begins to settle into the groove of laid back country life, her writing takes a positive turn, along with her love life. However, there is something holding Hayley and Luke back from completely surrendering to one another and what is the significance of the visions Hayley is having?

Karly Lane is an author who is a permanent fixture on my favourites and auto-buy list. She never puts a foot wrong with her novels and each release is as good as and as special as the last, in its own unique way. This time around, Someone Like You again combines Lane’s signature style, but it is a story that incorporates a little of another genre to shake things up. Someone Like You is much more than a simple city to country sea change story. I will say from the very beginning of this review there is so much to love about Someone Like You.

The best place to start in outlining my response to Someone Like You is to start with leading lady Hayley Stevens. I loved Hayley and her occupation, a writer, just as much. This was the perfect career to attach to a main protagonist and Karly simply nails it! I appreciated the insight into writers and the writing process in general, through the thorough exploration of the character of Hayley, it was absorbing. Supporting Hayley are a great cast of secondary characters, who I had all the time in the world for (except Hayley’s two timing ex and cheating friend). I feel it is vital that I mention the non human characters that feature in Someone Like You. Errol the donkey and co were a pure delight! I loved the use of Hayley’s little hobby farm in the novel, it was a great touch.

As we come to expect with each and every Karly Lane novel, the country based setting is a defining feature of the novel. In Someone Like You, we travel to the Macdonald River region. This is a stunning locale which Lane showcases to divine perfection in her novel. I loved travelling to this part of the country, it was a welcome experience. Lane’s ability to transport her readers from their home , to the heart of the country is put simply, a true gift. I loved getting to know the past history, the insight into colonial times and the mystery of this region. A big round of applause for Lane in excelling in this aspect of her story, yet again!

I wasn’t surprised that I lapped up the romance aspect of Someone Like You. Who doesn’t adore a love at first sight romance? Lane goes that extra mile in the love aspect of this story, adding an extra dimension to her leading lady, Hayley’s pathway to happy ever after. I can’t say too much more as I would hate to ruin this aspect of the novel, but it works and I enjoyed it very much.

Expect to be swept away to the picturesque colonial village of Lochway, in Karly Lane’s latest novel, Someone Like You. With gently touches of humour, a big dollop of romance, a sprinkle of history, a dusting of mystery and a drop of magic to froth up the tale, this is one Karly Lane novel you do not want to miss.

Betrayed by her husband and best friend, author Hayley Stevens sets about rebuilding her life. She leaves the city and moves to Lochway, a small village near the Macdonald River. She has impulsively bought a sandstone shouse which had initially been a bed and breakfast. Maybe it would make a good retreat for writers Hayley thinks. Suffering from writers block and with a deadline looming, Hayley hopes the peace and quiet of the country will inspire her. But if it is peace and quiet she is looking for that is not quite what she gets after acquiring a donkey named Errol. Errol is only the start of the menagerie of animals she starts to acquire. Loved the play on the names when she acquires the second donkey. That gave me a good laugh. Hayley is distracted from very early on by her neighbour Luke. She almost feels she already knows him. And what is the story with the visions she is experiencing? Is it an over active writer’s imagination or something else entirely?
I have enjoyed several of this author’s novels. I enjoyed the humorous meeting between Hayley and Luke around the rescue of Errol. The story is told throughout with a light touch and an element of humour. Hayley is a likeable character and easy to empathise with up to a point. While I enjoyed this book I never responded as well to this book as I have the author’s other books. A sticking point for me is the emphasis on past lives, tarot cards and such. I told myself it is fiction, and not written as fact. But still I found it a distraction. One that couldn’t be ignored as it is essential to the plot. I realise this is a personal issue, so it may not raise any problems for other readers. In that case others may enjoy this book a lot more than I did. That aside, this is an entertaining read with a visual setting and portrays small village where people know about each other’s lives well. A light, fun read though not her best book as far as I am concerned.

Someone Like You is about betrayal, love and new beginnings. After the portrayal of her husband and best friend, Hayley Stevens decided to move to Lochway on the Macdonald River. Hayley was hoping that she would have peace to write. However, her best-laid plans did not eventuate due to a gift of a noisy donkey and meeting her new neighbour's son Nick Mason. The readers of Someone Like You will have a lovely time following Hayley Stevens, Nick Mason and Errol the donkey.

"Someone Like You" is another fantastic read from Karly Lane. I love the way, Karly Lane incorporated animals within the plot and how they interact with the other characters in "Someone Like You". Some parts of "Someone Like You" I was unable to stop laughing with what the characters get up to throughout this book. I like Karly Lane portrayal of her characters and the way she intertwines with each other throughout this book. "Someone Like You" is well written and researched by Karly Lane.

The readers of "Someone Like You" will learn about running a small farm and the problems writers can have trying to finish a book. Also, the readers of "Someone Like You" will start to understand the importance of farm diversify to farmers.

I recommended this book.

I adore Karly Lane’s novels. She’s one author who just hits the right note every time with every book. In her eleventh novel, Someone Like You, Karly brings to us a city girl to country woman tale, a love story crossing generations, and an age old mystery that is determined to resurface.

Hayley, our heroine in Someone Like You, is simply gorgeous. Escaping to the country for a quiet fresh start, within 24 hours she has adopted a very noisy donkey named Errol. This is followed by several more animals until she has a small menagerie, leading her to hire a local man who has been largely ostracised on account of his PTSD, to build some animal pens. She has a heart of gold and you just can’t help but fall in love with her. Luke, her neighbour, feels pretty much the same way, and from the moment he and Hayley lock eyes over a dam containing a stuck donkey, it’s pretty much love at first sight for the pair of them. Inexplicably so, because there is a spark between them that extends beyond the attraction they feel for each other, a spark that frightens both of them and is impossible to explain, much less accept. This paranormal element present in Someone Like You caught me by surprise but I enjoyed it immensely.

Within an authentic country setting, Karly’s trademark humour knits together a fabulous story about fresh beginnings and new love. A snapshot of Australia’s colonial history is interwoven throughout the narrative with both truth and sensitivity. A spotlight shines down onto some pertinent issues, such as PTSD in our young returning soldiers and displacement for farmers who have worked the land traditionally for decades. Karly’s novels are always full and rounded; reading one is like stepping into a new community for the duration and being welcomed in with open arms. I loved Someone Like You and highly recommend it to all readers for a heart warming read that will have you flipping the pages long into the night.

Thanks is extended to Allen and Unwin for providing me with a copy of Someone Like You for review.

This is the third Karly Lane book that I have read and I found it well below the standard of the other two. It has a feel of writing by numbers, that Lane has hit on a formula and is now ready to rehash that standard set-up for this book. It is familiar, comforting and typical for those readers who like to know exactly what they're going to get before they start.

It starts like many Karly Lane novels with a youngish, unattached woman moving to a rural setting, buying a house, and getting an attraction to an eligible local male hunk. Various things happen to put obstacles in the path of true love...

The novel element in this particular book is that both male and female protagonists experience episodes where they have visions or sounds/feelings of being transported back in time to the colonial period, where they are both involved in a violent incident. It allows the author to introduce some issues relating to colonialism and the treatment of convicts and indigenous people.

I found the beginning worked well, and I loved the donkeys and the gruff townsfolk. But it seemed to me to get quite messy, and narrative strengths were weakened by distracting elements. The historical issues relating to convicts and Aboriginals were not well treated in my opinion. I kept thinking "Karly, if you're not going to explore these issues thoroughly, you'd be wiser to leave them out."

The lyrical language that Lane often uses is lacking in this book, and I found the whole thing to be less than 100% satisfying. It was an OK read, but certainly I'd recommend stronger works by Lane, like Morgan's Law and If Wishes Were Horses. 2.5 stars, rounded up.

Another wonderful book by Karly Lane, I couldn't put this down. I loved the characters, Hayley was lovely and I enjoyed her strength and love for animals. I found the idea of a past life coming through and affecting the now life completely believable and liked the way this was able to bring through the historical storyline. Luke was a honey, unless he was being bossy and the chemistry between the two was great. I really enjoyed the addition of Jason's character and that Hayley wanted to make-up her own mind about who he was, far too often people listen to gossip and let it make up their mind for them. I definitely recommend this novel.

This is a heartwarming novel in which we are introduced to the lovely character, 29 year old Hayley Stevens. Hayley has discovered her husband and best friend have been unfaithful to her and she has chosen to pack up and leave, concentrating all of her efforts on a new life in the country and her career as an author.

On arrival to Lochway, Hayley is soon introduced to her handsome neighbour Luke Mason. From here, Hayley and Luke develop a friendship based on their love of animals and a rural lifestyle.

Ultimately, there are two broken souls who are drawn together through fate and a hefty dose of deja vu. Karly Lane has a natural ability to ensure her readers and wrapped in the warmth, love and friendship that she has transposed onto every page and this makes for a very enjoyable read.

Thank you Beauty and Lace Bookclub and Allen & Unwin Publishing for the opportunity to read this novel. This is the first Karly Lane novel I have read and I adore it, I will happily re-visit this time and time again.

This book wasn't for me.

It started out quite flat, the romance isn't very strong, and the vaguely paranormal past-life stuff just doesn't work for me. I'm sure others will adore it for the same reason I struggled with it.

There is a strong sense of parallel too - the heroine is an author with writers block that is suddenly cured by her "vision" of a historical event. The historical story overwhelms the contemporary romance, thus making it feel like the author really only wanted to write the historical, but was shoehorned into a deadline (coughs - just like the character).

Someone Like You by Karly Lane has something for everyone – romance, history and humour. After best-selling author, Hayley Stevens found her husband Paul having an affair with her best friend she knows her life will never be the same again.
Twelve months later, Hayley packs her bags and heads to Lochway, a small colonial village. Wanting peace and quiet to continue her writing, Hayley impulsively buys a cosy, sandstone cottage that she has previously stayed at. Upon moving into her new home Hayley becomes the new owner of a very noisy donkey called Errol – Errol leads Hayley into some extremely humorous moments. When Errol escapes from his new home and finds himself embedded in the neighbour’s dam, Hayley meets her new and handsome neighbour Luke.
Hayley starts having ‘visions’ – things that she appears to be aware of with total feeling. As Luke and Hayley’s relationship continues to grow, Luke too starts to have ‘visions’. What does this mean for the pair? As Hayley starts to suffer writers block and can only think of her visions she starts to write – not what she is contracted to write but from her visions – as Hayley looks deeper into the meaning of what she is seeing it all becomes clearer to her and Luke.
Fantastic book that was hard to put down. Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Allen & Unwin for allowing me to read this great novel.

When bestselling author, twenty-nine year old Hayley Stevens, walks in on her husband, Paul, and her best friend in bed together, she knows her life will never be the same again.

One year later, Hayley stowed her last bag in her much-loved Audi Coupe and said goodbye to the city. She was excited to be heading west to Lochway, a small colonial village sitting on the beautiful Macdonald River. Wanting peace and quiet, Hayley had impulsively bought a cosy sandstone cottage there surrounded by lush rose gardens, with a small overseer's cottage - ideal for a writer's retreat.

What she didn't expect was the almost immediate 'gift' of a very noisy donkey named Errol. Nor did Hayley expect to meet her handsome new neighbour, Luke Mason, when she was covered in mud trying to drag Errol out of Luke's dam. The strange thing was though that Luke seemed very familiar to her.

As Hayley slowly gains acceptance into her small community and starts writing again she becomes almost afraid of the inexplicable visions she sees. What does it all mean? And why does Luke refuse to listen to her?

Written with warmth and humour, Someone Like You is an intriguing, funny and romantic story about past lives and new beginnings.

LOVE IT - Someone Like You is one of the loveliest books I've read in a while, and I've read some fabulous ones. It has something for everyone who loves Australian literature - historical facts, gorgeous Australian scenery beautifully described, mystery and wonderful, well developed characters. I knew I was going to love the book when I read "Acknowledgements" first and read Karly's words, "The old inn at St Albans is a truly remarkable building, and I swear I could hear the walls whispering their stories to me the moment I walked inside."
I loved the way Hayley, the author who leaves city life behind to start anew, isn't phased by the lack of immediate acceptance into the small community she's moved to. I also loved the way she "collected" strays and built up her menagerie.
If you are unable to accept the concept of visions you may have a problem with this book but I loved every part of it, from the glorious cover right through to the last word. Thank you, Beauty and Lace and Allen and Unwin for this wonderful book. It's a treasure.

I received Someone Like You by Karly Lane from Beauty and Lace Book Club to read and do an honest review.
This is a great book to read.
The marriage breakdown is the push for Hayley to leave the city and move to a small country town.
Having a donkey dumped on her and it escaping and getting bogged in her neighbors dam
is a disater with a silver lining, she meets gorgeous Luke Mason.
Moving to a small community is so different to all Hayley knows.
She collects animals, they are not what they seem, but they fit in.
The budding romance with Luke has it's ups and downs.
Karly Lane writes with an understanding of country small town closed minds and how hard it is for someone who isn't born there to try to belong.
The small town was not expecting a city raised writer who is determined to make the best of her new begining, but they begin to accept her.
The past lives intruding on modern times brings an interesting twist.
A very easy book to read with quite a few funny little bits that will make you have a small chuckle to yourself.
Enjoyable and highly recommended to read.

Oh boy, 𝚂𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝙻𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚈𝚘𝚞 by Karly Lane is absolutely superb! It's now in my favourite books of hers!
Filled with angsty romance, a writer's life insight, cute animals, a mystery leading back to convict times and elements of spirituality, it's definitely a must read!!

Best selling author Hayley Stevens moves to the colonial villiage of Lochway after the divorce from her husband. Buying the ex B&B, Hayley soon adapts from the transformation from city dweller to farmer. There to settle her into the community is Luke Mason, her new next door neighbour.

Sparks immediately fly between the pair. However, as Hayley starts uncovering the Mason family history, Luke starts backing away. For he is fearful about this potential relationship however destiny has other plans in play!

The accumulation of Hayley's menagerie is utterly delightful and fun to read! The Mason family history and spiritual elements were interesting and unique for Karly's usual writing! I really enjoyed reading this book and hopefully you will too!

A well deserved 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

I have devoured every book Karly has written since I received her book Morgan’s Law for a birthday gift a few years ago (my first of the kind).

I was excited to be selected to review Someone Like You and knew I would not be able to put it down! Lets just say the day I started reading it we had dinner at 10pm!

Like any of Karly’s books you are transported to wherever the story is set. Someone Like You had me feeling like I was part of the story, I felt like I was witnessing the visions Hayley and Luke had, feeling the love, the pain and the laughter (Errol and his dam adventure!) The amount of hard work research that goes into one of Karly Lane’s stories is amazing – each story makes you feel like you have taken a history class – and enjoyed it!

Someone Like You takes you on a journey through heartbreak, humor, fear and most of all romance – each page leaves you wanting more.

Another amazing read Karly, I cannot wait for the next!

This is another wonderful rural romance by Karly Lane, Someone Like You focuses on Hayley Stevens an author who one day discovers her husband in bed with her best friend… that’s a sure-fire way to end a marriage and friendship that is for sure.

A year on, Hayley is excited to be leaving the city behind for a small colonial village of Lochway. Throw in a handsome new neighbour Luke, a “gifted” donkey, and a ghost or two, it all makes for a great story.

This book is a brilliant mix of intrigue, humour, romance both past and present, along with some wonderful characters.

I enjoyed the awesome banter between Hayley and Luke, and oh my gosh the shower scene had my giggling, I just loved the humour in which that scene and many others were written.

I liked to how Karen was an author in the story, along with getting an insight into the mind of a writer as I am sure those parts in the book weren’t all fictional!

I finished this book with a happy big smile on my face - I found this to be quite a different read, compared to the other books of Karly’s that I have read.

We are following Hayley, who is a writer who moves to a small colonial village, has bought a cosy sandstone cottage and everything that follows made for such a fun read - from the making of her farm, the new business ventures, all of the animals that found a new home with her, meeting the new community and of course Luke, and the psychic/past life storyline was different, yet was nice touch.

It was also nice to see Jason Weaver again, who was also in Something Like This.

There’s a little bit of everything in this story to capture all the different types of readers, but especially if you are country folk, a lover of animals or a writer - this one’s for you.

Liked this story, Karly Lane is new to me author but I love her writing, characters and scene locations. Makes you want to hop a plane and go see Australia.
This has gripping history and small town contemporary romance with the two stories interchanging into one. One story is the present and one is from 200 yrs ago.

The book starts out like an outback adventure for a gal who is just recently divorced and having writer's block. She starts having visions or impressions of people who lived on the land in past generations. This has sort of a Barbera Michaels or Susanna Kearsley type vibe to it.

This author really brings story to life with facts about the places and things in the story. She is correct with her knowledge of livestock and farming, for example that donkeys don't like to be alone they need a friend. Having been raised on farm I really appreciate the attention to detail.

Someone Like You is the first book of Karly Lane’s that I have read and it won’t be the last. I loved Karly’s warmhearted and entertaining writing style.
Her characters were really believable and it was great getting to know them as the story developed. I really enjoyed the country setting and the historical aspects tied in with past lives.
There was never a dull moment as Hayley adapted to country life, cared for her increasing number of farm animals, tried to write a novel, negotiated a new romance and dealt with her unsettling visions.
I really loved this book.. Thankyou for choosing me to read Someone Like You.

This was a heart warming novel about a heart broken city chick who packs up her belongs and buys a little cottage in the rural area in the Hawkesbury area of Sydney. She meets her hunky neighour Luke whilst Hayley is trying to retrieve her donkey out of Luke's dam. The small town folk are not as welcoming to new city slickers and Hayley finds herself trying to crack the hard shell of some of the town folks. An easy to read story that kept me wanting to know what happens next.

A light entertaining read that's very well done. It had all the ingredients I love in a story: independent woman striking out on her own; moving to the country; history everywhere; animals (donkeys!); a sweet courtship; and a touch of the supernatural which always floats my boat. The only drawback I found was a lack of diversity in the cast of characters. The author held all the plot lines tight right up to the end. I read it in two sittings, not wanting to put it down.

You know exactly what you're going to get when you pick up a Karly Lane book: easy to read, sweet romance, amazing Australian locations, that small town feel (but on paper!). This book is no different. Hayley and Luke are fun, likeable characters that you enjoy getting to know.

I'd love to see more of Jason though, so fingers crossed he can get his own book??

I found with this novel there was no long introductions at the start, it got straight into the story and became very interesting, I liked that.

I did enjoy this novel, I always enjoy Karly's book, but it wasn't one of my favourites written by Karly.

However I still couldn't put the book down.

I love ghosts and mysteries dating back 200 years ago.

Packing up and going bush when your life takes an unexpected turn is just what Hayley Stevens does. Gifts arrive, strange introductions to the neighbours and historical visions that give her insight into a strangers life are all overwhelming for Hayley.
Just when thing couldn't get any worse, her ex husband turns up and meets the languishing Luke Mason.

Not just 'another' romance. This book kept me wondering what was going in from 'the past' that was affecting those in 'the present'. Interesting and with great 'side' stories (setting up a new property and all the 'new friends' who live on the farm) - a good book, thank you Karly Lane. Looking forward to reading your books from the first one to this one (the current one).

I loved it. A Karly Lane that had somehow escaped me was a lovely story to read when I needed distractions. Not everyone's "cup of tea" as it deals with past lives but whether you accept that as something believable or not it's a beautifully written story. Quite different from most Karly Lane works but I don't think many Karly Lane devotees would not thoroughly enjoy this story.
