The amount of fangirl squealing I did within this volume isn't even funny. Yona is SUCH a queen in this volume, and I love her for it. The direct confrontation that has been building has finally happened, and I so needed to see it. I also needed to watch a certain character squrim when that finally did come to pass, and yes, it was perfection.
My dragons thrive in this volume, especially Sin-ha. He really does everything that he can to help the situation in this volume, even at the risk of himself. He is my favorite, and I love him.
I need Vol 26 in my hands already! Please read this series if you are not! I won't stop asking you until you do!

Yona finally gets the chance to talk to Su-won, and matters in Xing take on an unexpected development as civilian unrest grows.

Lili was really awesome, as usual, in this volume, and I was not expecting Yona’s identity to be revealed. I can’t wait to see what types of developments arise from that event. I’m also thrilled that this volume had a chapter that was from Tae-u’s perspective. He’s my favourite member of the Wind Tribe and I love his character. My biggest complaint about this arc, however, is the new characters it introduces. While I really like the addition of Princess Kouren to the cast, it was only in this volume that I started warming up a bit more to Xing's heroes, something I feel like should have happened a lot sooner. Also, the newest antagonist introduced in this volume is especially terrible, in that he fits a very typical character type, one I’ve never liked. I’ve said this before, but the villains of this series really are not its strong point, and I do think this could have been improved in this instance, at least, with a bit of foreshadowing because Gobi seemed to come out of nowhere. I don’t dislike the new developments that arose in this volume though, because they brought about some pretty interesting consequences. I’m also so happy everyone’s back together again, though the situation at this point is far from ideal, and that sure was some way of ending off the volume.

Also, that bonus story was everything, seeing Hak sick is so adorable! And it was surprisingly heartwarming.

I have come to the conclusion that if I can’t handle some of the “graphic” violence specifically in this volume, then no way will I be able to handle Demon Slayer which has SOOOO much more! 😭😭😭😭 I realize that is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but I had been really hoping to read that series soon (because #Rengoku). However a few of the scenes in this one really made me cringe and made me feel conflicted in how to rate this volume because at least if this was an anime, I could close my eyes, but since it’s not, I can’t. LOL!

What an incredibly engaging volume though! This volume starts off with a bang and it’s one where Yona deserves a standing ovation! I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fact of how much she has grown since the beginning. She has come a longgggg way and it was incredible to see her stand on her own feet without Hak, without the Dragons, without Yun. It’s the first time (in my opinion) that we are seeing Yona is genuinely a force to reckon with and NOT just because of her friends. It was deeply satisfying and makes me thankful I didn’t stop reading this series in the beginning when I wasn’t enjoying it nearly as much. I would have seriously been missing out!

SINHAAAAAAAAAA!!! My boy is shining on page and could not even!!!! 😭😭😭😭 I REALLY loved seeing how far he personally has come and was SO proud of him (even if one of the cringe moments in this volume actually was linked to him LOL)! The art of him is always perfection. 🥰🥰🥰

The things happening with Kouren and the Five Stars has been a journey! What a turn of events!! While I haven’t liked Mizari, I DEEPLY loved his interaction with Gija (because it goes to show war is never black and white) and had a lot of feelings in seeing his story play out (including another character I’ll leave unnamed). Also for Kouren (in my opinion) to be someone who was portrayed as unlikeable, she sure did become someone I could stand behind! Her humbleness by the end was deeply touching!

The ending of this was definitely a WHOA moment!! I’m extremely interested in what happens next even if I’m nervous about some of the battle ahead. I’m also happy this has a low key found family trope which is something I don’t think I realized was already blooming before now. 🧡

Princess Yona is the pampered daughter of her kingdom's king. Isolated and doted on she has two childhood friends, Hak, a general who also protects her and her cousin, Suwon who helped her mourn her mother's passing and who she is crushing on big time. On her 16th birthday her entire world implodes to to a crippling betrayal... She must decide if she will fall in line or rise up and take back her kingdom.

Yona of the Dawn vol 25 is filled to the brim with betrayal and death! It was quite shocking as Yona and her dragons are pretty adept politically and battle wise. They didn’t count on the anti-war faction being so blood thirsty. It doesn’t help that the dragons are weakened being so far from their country’s capital.

This time it’s Yona’s turn to shine as she works to get stubborn leaders to work on peace instead of war. She’s never been one to back down just because something is hard to do... this time though Hak has to take a step back and he isn’t happy about it. Even though the dragons are down they aren’t out and we get some pretty intense battle scenes.

I’m normally not too keen on how things work out... but this time I’m really intrigued. Yona really took a gamble here but Suwon wants to do things his way, he committed murder for that pleasure after all. As always thrilling, female empowered fantasy!

Me muero entera.

I am consumed by RAGE. Oh my god nothing like a corrupt priest to really piss me the fuck off. Probably the worst antagonist in this whole series. Like seriously fuck this guy. I'm so upset by how helpless the dragons are right now like fuck. I have a lot of emotions.

“There once was a girl walking around with the head of a countryman in her arms. All of the adults were afraid of that girl. Other than myself, no one else knows of this moment where the girl cried tears of relief. For the rest of my life. I will dedicate myself to this girl. Even if that should mean suffering a hundred wounds.”

This volume cannot be described as anything but absolutely heartstopping and cardiac. There is not a moment of rest, of peace, of safety to be had, not a moment when my heart was not being crushed with a flood of emotion.

While there were many things happening one after the other I was not prepared for how much The Five Stars and Lady Kouren were going to steal my heart and make me feel so much for them. I was in love with their characters long before the volume was over.

Yes, there has been no shortage of parallels drawn between Yona and others through the story but the mirroring that we have in this arc hits a little closer to home. It is not only a parallel for Yona this time around, after all, but of the bonds that have been created through hardship, love, and grief that are formed through life.

I will forever get emotional over it all.

“There’s something bad in the air. It’s something I’ve felt before […] Many people’s anxiety and hatred were mixed together. A dark, dusky feeling.”

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about this series is the way that Kusanagi has to draw so vividly, so emphatically.

Not only are the panels beyond gorgeous and pieces that I could spend an eternity staring at, no, but there is something so tangible about them at the same time. There is a near surreal element to the story with the way Kusanagi can make me feel the claustrophobic, overwhelming, suffocating atmosphere that the characters were feeling with something so simple as color and drawing style.

it really does make for an immersive experience and enhances the series incredibly.

Warnings: body horror, graphic violence, war

Yona finally gets a chance to present Princess Tao’s terms before Soo Won, and while he tries to be adamant about it, the realization that she mobilized the Fire Tribe to send up that signal as well as the fact that Riri is close to her, and coincidentally happened by to stop her Water Tribe soldiers from harming Yona, has both him and his advisors wary of Yona’s growing political power. Also, I’m in awe of Yona displaying her powerful force again - when she faces Soo Won head-on, and later, when another aspect of the dragon’s powers is revealed. While she carries back his terms to the Xing kingdom, they are themselves having a Situation on their hands.

We get to see some of the issues from Kouren’s side, and what her suspicions are regarding the anti-war faction that wants to support Tao. Also, MIzara’s statements keep ringing in her head, and when the High Priest that leads the anti-war faction plays his hand, they are all swept up in an attack that has them on the same side. With tensions brewing among the factions of Xing at the border, and the sisters being stuck in a power struggle, it seems dire over in Xing. Kouren’s story, meanwhile, told briefly through one of the Five Stars, tells of a strong but young princess who had to grow up pretty fast to take on the responsibilities of running a kingdom; also, the trauma from the invasion by Kouka last time has been seared into her, that you can understand why she hesitates to trust Soo Won, who is the son of the man who did war crimes on her country. How the issues between the two kingdoms will be resolved is yet to be seen and it has me so nervous!

Spotkanie z Yoną po roku uważam za udane. Niestety, mam wrażenie, że autorka w pewnym momencie się pogubiła i już nie wie, dokąd zmierzamy. Wydaje mi się, że jesteśmy już po peaku serii:( 3.5

4.5 stars!! Ok, remember in my last review when I talked about how bad the cliffhanger was for Volume 24? Somehow this cliffhanger is even WORSE. And I planned on taking a short break after this one! Well, I guess there's nothing more for me to do besides reading the next volume, and then the next, back to back to back. This series is holding me hostage. I cannot stop binge-reading it no matter what.

There weren't as many Yona and Hak moments in this one compared to the volumes I read yesterday, however, Hak telling Yona that they need to talk later?? Is this what I think it is??? Will they finally (after so SO long) get together??? Or maybe not, maybe they're going to take things slow. Either way, I am so happy for them! Things are finally progressing, they're no longer fully in the dark about each other's feelings. Let me just say, I will mostly be speed-reading through the next few volumes to get to the point where they do have the "talk", if not anything else.

I've said this in another one of my Yona of the Dawn reviews, but every since I read the Poppy War trilogy, I have been a HUGE fan of wars, battles, and politics in books/manga. That's one of the reasons why this is slowly becoming my favorite arc of this series so far. One of my favorite aspects of this arc is that the line between good vs. evil from both sides is really hard to distinguish. A few chapters ago I was completely on the anti-war faction's side, but after what the members did to the five stars, I'm starting to sympathize with Princess Kouren. And these chapters mention many times how brutal and tragic war can be, and as a whole, the mangaka doesn't bother to hide the grim details of it all. But anyways, onto reading the next volume in order to satiate my need to find out what happens in this story!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-copy to review. All opinions are my own.

I am not okay after reading this one! Ugh, this one just hit me in the feels so hard and stressed me out the entire time!

I know I say this every time I finish another volume for this series but, each volume gets better than the last. This one did a number on me emotionally and then had to end on a huge cliffhanger and I will just slowly be wasting away until I can get my hands on the next one. 😢

When it comes to Yona, she did something so brave and I wasn’t sure how it would play out. She is courageous and I love everything about who she is.

One character in this volume that I really enjoyed was General Tae-u. His part was just so epic! After getting teary-eyed that part had me laughing. I really needed it at that point to get through the rest of the book, haha.

In this one there is a lot of talk about peace and not holding onto hate. It’s a very powerful message and one that I think all of us needs to hear.

Overall, it was just so so so good! I really don’t know how I will recover from this. If you haven’t started this manga series yet, I highly suggest doing so. The characters and plot make it worth the read.

This was a very exciting volume, as the Xing story arc continues to develop. The previous volume left us in a bit of a cliffhanger , and now we're left with another exciting cliffhanger as the conflict between Xing and Kohka are further complicated by civil disputes between Xing's pro-war and anti-war factions (not to mention potential civil tensions in Kohka between the Yona-influenced tribes and Suwon's political agenda).

Overall, a lot of interesting development to both the Xing story arc and overall arc. I'm really excited to see where this is heading towards.

Also, although there are zero romance elements in this volume, the author hinted that the next volume is one to look out for (for those who are in it for the romance). I mean, Hak did say to Yona that they needed "to talk" once this is all over (!!!) I wonder what the "talk" will be about 😉
