It is evident to the discerning Christian that an undercurrent of deep uneasiness is washing beneath the waters of Christendom today. Confusion, complacency and compromise mark the average congregation. Evangelical churches are rocking from the challenges of rationalism, the occult, and mass media that has suddenly exposed the young to a “global village” of other faiths. Never before has the Bride of Christ been faced with so much stress within and without.
It is with concern for an end-time work of God that this manual has been formulated. Why have we become so complacent? What fresh emphasis does the church need to prepare for the vast upheavals she is beginning to face?
Early believers looked with joy to the return of the Master. Today, we know the time is even more “close at hand.” They used this truth to generate a converting compassion driving out to reach the lost masses. But we have often made it an excuse for complacency.
Persecution was the womb of the early church. Born in the power of the Holy Spirit and the challenge of secularized religions co-operating with the political powers of the day, it thrived under bitter opposition. In an environment of tension and danger, the men and women God used to represent Christ to the world bore a faith that flamed. Stand beside them in the record, the Scriptures that set our pattern. They pray because they must. They give because they love. They speak, for they cannot be silent.
Whenever the Church has prospered materially, the black angel of complacency has reaped a deadly harvest. Invariably, spiritual desolation has followed rampant materialism. The flame of dedication has flickered and smouldered – and into the vacuum of carnality and compromise, the Enemy always floods. Whenever the pleas of God for His church to return to first love have been shrugged off or rejected, judgment has always struck. It has been so in history. It will be so again, unless we do something NOW.
What are the needs of this hour? Faced with the most momentous time in history, blood-bought believers must crystalize problems and provide an answer to this hour of our greatest challenge. We need help that is Scriptural, adaptable, adequate and highly practical. Above all, we need it NOW.
We can learn much from what has gone before. Vital revivals have often come from a re-evaluation of the work and the Word of God. Such show His purpose, patterns and power. Many were ignored, criticized even violently opposed. But they inject new life whenever dared into the veins of diminished, dying orthodoxy.
YOUTH AFLAME! 2.0 is written for a future need already becoming present.
It is directed to half the world still in search of a goal, a leader and a cause to give their lives to… The global Youth of Century 21. It is intended to provide answers for reaching the unchurched and untouched. It is geared for the confused and the complacent. It is given with the prayer that God will use it to grip young people with a cause and a vision that will drive them out to shake their world for the Lord Jesus Christ.
This was very useful when I worked in a youth group. I wish I still had this book, mine is somewhere in Brazil! :( Plus there was a great natural antibiotic recipe in it that I used when I had no insurance and the worst sinus infection of my life. Took the potion and have never had one since! (and that was in 1999)
I read this book as a part of teaching a course for a leadership training course I taught over the fall semester with my campus ministry. This book offers excellent instruction on Christian living. It is still relevant to college-aged Christians even if it was intended for high school students and is very Biblically sound. One of the highlights for me was the way Pratney explained complex concepts like forgiveness of sins, spiritual check-ups, and what is the "will of God."
I highly recommend this guidebook to read and have on hand for reference.
This book was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! i thought this, along with Hungry for More of Jesus, was the two best books I've ever read in my life! This is the best book ive EVER read so far =D
I really, really like Winkie Pratney and thank him for his tireless effort being "the world's oldest teenager". Excellent research work. Recommend this and the original version to anyone. Consider this book a theology course in one book.
