Find the answers here in the fabulous first three New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling volumes of the Old Fools series.
Victoria Twead is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Amazon bestselling author. Eleven years living in a tiny, remote, mountain village in Spain and owning probably the most dangerous cockerel in Europe, inspired Victoria to write “Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools”. Subsequent books in the Old Fools’ series continue to pop up.
So far, her husband has utterly failed to wrestle the laptop from Victoria’s vice-like grip and she continues to write and publish other authors' books in Australia. Another joyous life-chapter has begun for the pair.
This delightful set of travel memoirs transports one into the funny, curious, entertaining experience of living in a foreign country, firstly Spain and then Bahrain and back to Spain. We meet unforgettable characters, dear animals, strange customs, the mountains of Spain, the sands of the Middle East, fiestas in Spain, riots in Bahrain and threaded through familiar friends and religious practice. I loved the journey and when I finished it I felt as if I had left home for a while and had to settle back my normal. I felt I must phone my daughter and say I’m home…. I really lived Vicky’s experience she took me with her… I shut off the book and had the strange feeling where am I? Dropped back home no longer in Spain…
Great read! Twead is an expert storyteller. Never really thought "memoirs" were all that interesting, until I read hers. She sees everyday routines and people as adventures. Or turns them into one! You don't have to be over 50 to enjoy her books... But the older reader will find them so much more relatable.
Quite a journey, starting a new life in rural Spain and then leaving it all behind for one last teaching post in Bahrain, the beginning of the Arab spring and finally a return to Spain. Plenty of twists along the way and some very interesting characters make for an enjoyable read.
I can't get enough of her books they're absolutely wonderful So entertaining and so funny. Highly recommend. So entertaining and so funny. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed the first book when they had just moved to Spain.
I can relate to all that happened, having lived in Spain myself. It was very funny. I did find the recipes in-between chapters very annoying, as you just want to carry on reading and not keep having to skip the recipes.
The second book when they moved to Bahrain was amusing in the beginning but lost its appeal as it carried on. The recipes seemed to get longer aswell.
The third book when they were back in Spain wasn't as funny, as we knew most of what went on.
I enjoyed the first book very much though and would certainly recommend to other readers.
Absolutely wonderful. Within the first twenty pages I laughed out loud so many times I had tears. The reader is invited to travel and live in a small village in Spain through the author's eyes. The writing style is top notch. The humor is constant and delightful. I would like to thank the author for sharing her story.
