Omega Mason doesn’t trust alphas. Any of them. Not after the abuse he’s suffered at Scarlet Ridge pack. When he’s given the chance to escape, he takes it - only to find himself in stuck in an animal trap set by an alpha named Jericho from Indigo Mountain pack. After Jericho frees him and takes him home, Mason is irritated and just wants to run. But with a baby growing in his belly, Mason figures his best bet is to milk Jericho for all he’s worth before leaving Indigo Mountain - and alphas - once and for all.
The problem? Mason’s hit by a rare double heat, making him fertile even while pregnant. And it’s only during this time that he realizes Jericho carries the magical scent of his fated mate.
Alpha’s Solace is a 30k word story with steamy scenes, a HEA, and no cliffhangers. It is the second book in the Indigo Mountain pack series and is best enjoyed in series order.
Hawke is a M/M author who loves the world of MPREG and shifters. In his spare time he enjoys hiking with his dog, hanging out with his boyfriend, and playing video games.
I liked this book more than the first. It had some new elements to it namely fated mates that were not in the first. The double heat was a new one and I enjoyed that tidbit a lot.
The characters were likeable, approachable and I liked how gentle Jericho was with Mason. He was so attentive and understanding. Mason had his reasons for giving everyone the cold shoulder and I am glad that he stayed in the pack.
The ending was a shocker. I didn't expect it when the spy was revealed. It was so sad but people make their choices on their own. The epilogue was kind of cryptic and added to the mystery of the alpha rescuer! I hope we will know who he is later. I highly recommend it. Very good book.
Alpha’s Solace by author Hawke Oakley is the second book in the Indigo Mountain Pack series. There are some descriptions in this book that left me scratching my head. But once I got past that there is a great romantic paranormal here. This book is written in dual POV. Mason, he is pregnant artificially inseminated at a clinic. He hates Alphas and is very glad he did not have to have sex with one to have a baby. The pack he is in just gives the bare minimum to the pack. He has a role he must play in the pack. He must produce a baby. He knows that his child will be destined to be part of his Alpha’s pack army. He gets offered an out, unsure whether or not taking it is good, he does because his child will at least have a chance somewhere else. Jericho part of Indigo Mountain pack. Very nice ordinary guy. When he treats Mason with respect and love Mason has a hard time adjusting to it. Jericho is everything Mason never knew an Alpha could be, patient, kind, and giving.
I liked this story very much. Mason came from some horrible abuse and Jericho is the perfect Alpha to show him that not all Alphas are cruel and pushy. These two have what the other needs. I like that very much. This is a great addition to this series, which should be read in order. We do meet people we know and love in the first book, and this also builds on the pack politics. I enjoyed this world a lot and will be looking for more in the series in the future.
3.5 Stars A mysterious stranger, a chance at freedom, a tantalizing aroma, then sudden pain! Jericho missed spending as much time with his good friend Flint but he was compensated by the wonderful "niece and nephew" he acquired. Still things weren't the same.
Jericho increased his patrols of the packland borders and it paid off but not in the way he imagined it would. He caught a Scarlet Ridge trespasser all right, only it wasn't an Alpha.
His little pregnant captive was determined not to stay. Mason never expected to be made to feel like he truly belonged on Indigo Mountain. But he made friends, got a job, even experienced a very rare second Heat resulting in an even rarer second pregnancy. Mason and Charlie were extremely happy.
Despite a warning they never saw the betrayal coming and definitely not how determined the traitor would be to exact revenge in the worst way possible.
This story includes elements from many romance genres: alphas and omegas who actually shift, but the shifter aspect is not the center element of the story, mpreg with a twist (double heat is quite unusual but fits perfectly in the story), a man escaping from an oppressive pack struggeling to adapt to a new reality where he has the right to hope and work for a better future, friends and traitors, a little bit of thriller, and two men who come together first as friends, then because of lust and finally allow themself to fall in love with the person fate has put on their way. I will defenitively read the first instalment (eventhough it is not necessary to understand and appreciate this story) and I will keep an eye on future developments. Nice read for Christmas when you try to escape harassing family members ;)
Alpha-fearing omega gives this a different vibe than most alpha/omega stories. Mason wants nothing to do with Jericho but has nowhere to go. Jericho is a good man, a good alpha, who simply wants to help. Mason has absolutely no experience with an alpha like that. Alphas are selfish creatures that take what they want with no regard for anyone else. Jericho proves him wrong but it takes time. The double heat thing was interesting. I've not seen that before.
The one thing that drove me a little crazy was after the raven comes and Jericho says to Mason "So don't you worry your pretty little head, alright?" CRINGE!!! Can we not with the condescending talk? Just no. And it does not in any fashion coincide with Jericho's personality at all. He is not this kind of guy. He respects Mason's mind, he doesn't see omegas as empty-headed, helpless people. I hated this part.
Emotions that touch your heart, strong characters that give you hope and a plot to keep you turning the pages. Mason and Jericho’s story caught me from page one and kept me engaged all the way to the end. Fast paced story with plot twists that i did not see coming.
I so enjoyed watching their relationship grow and turn into a real love story based upon friendship and trust. Emotion as real as it gets, the desperation to survive and build a better life for your child, hope for a future and for love. Author has a winner!
This is the second book of this new Indigo Mountain Pack series, and i am hooked! Looking forward to more!!
Alpha's Solace was an interesting story with likeable characters. Mason wanted a better life for his unborn baby and ran away from his pack. He found himself caught in a trap in the woods and was saved by Jericho, a member of Indigo Mountain pack. Jericho takes him home and despite his aversion to alphas Mason falls for him. They discover they are fated mates and start their lives together. They will have to deal with a threat from Mason's old pack if they want their HEA. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I was given an ARC to review by the author.
Slightly different plot than the previous book in this series. Another gay omega wolf shifter escapes oppression directly into the arms of his alpha mate. Some intrigue makes it more interesting and loose ends promise another book. Typos: diffuse/defuse mix ups, wrong verb tenses, missing word, lay/lie mix ups, numeral used instead of written number, feisty spelled wrong, I/me mix ups, missing space between words.
This was a very intriguing and entertaining story that moved at a fast, smooth pace. These shifters are a bit different from others that I have read about in many ways but the characters were quite enjoyable, and Mason and Jericho were great mates that worked well together. There's a mysterious black raven that I'd like to learn more about. Fun and interesting read.
Nice story that left is with an anticlimactic conclusion - things will get worse before they get better. Looks like Indigo Pack will face off with Scarlett Ridge for the sake of the omegas.
Second book, and we're already picking up the intrigue. Mason another Omega on the run, caught in a trap by Alpha Jericho. Read to see the mysteries began.😮😮😮
While I loved reading this book, I felt like it ended too soon. I didn't get that sense of closure i had with the first book. I'll hope for more for now.
