Tension is high at the Royal Institute of Magic, as the Directors of each of the Departments – Spellswords, Wardens, Traders, Scholars and Diplomats – work together with their allies to push back the dark elf invasion, led by King Suktar.
But Ben Greenwood knows the truth: the only real way they are going to win is if he and the Guardians do the unthinkable and infiltrate the heart of the dark elf homeland – ending the evil king’s rule once and for all.
As if that wasn’t enough, a new power has come into play. Queen Elizabeth was aware of it all those years ago, and she predicted it would continue to influence their mission to the bitter end: the High Council.
Can the Guardians harness the strange magic of the armour? And will it really be enough to bring down such a powerful wizard as the dark elf king? In a race against time, and with his friends beside him, Ben Greenwood must face his greatest challenge yet.
The High Council is the sixth and final book in the Royal Institute of Magic series.
"Born in London, I live in a lovely little town in West Sussex with my wife and daughter.
"My passion for writing came from the many great books I read as a child and at school. I thought it would be nice to give others the same pleasure of escaping to another world that they gave me."

Victor’s brother did a great job finishing this series and creating a fantastic legacy! The High Counsel combined all the great characters that we’ve come to love in a wonderful storyline that stayed true to the series. You will laugh, cry, cheer and breathe a deep sigh of relief in the end! I hope that Victor’s family will continue to bring life to these much loved characters! There is so much more adventure to be had!
I was thrilled and impressed to find out that the author’s family found a way to finish out this series just the way he had planned. I’m not sure if I’d have caught a difference between this and the rest of the series if I hadn’t known. I thought it was a great conclusion to a fun and interesting series. Would recommend all 6 books. Thank you for making this happen!
An awesome conclusion to a great series looking forward to more adventures of these characters in this exciting land and seeing where Ben goes from here
I enjoyed the series from the very first book all the way to the end. This book brought the story to a very satisfying conclusion and I felt these books were so good that they rival Harry Potter.
Absolutely splendid ending. (although, it would have been incredible to see Aaron get his. Even if it only meant being told Ben was the one who stopped the war. Oh yah. Would've been good to see him brought down 500 pegs or so)
I read a lot, a lot, and rarely does a series grab my attention leaving me begging for more. I look forward to the further adventures of Ben, Charlie and Natalie.
Ok Fantasy & Magic fans this series is for you. Lots of action with goblins, dragons, elves, trolls and a school of magic to bind it all together. I sure hope the author is taking us into this realm with more stories. I really loved this entire series.
It was a fun group of books, a good best friends adventures as they delve into magic for the very first time. They form a group of friends who have run-ins with elves, goblins, dwarves, dragons and everything else imaginable, all while trying to attend classes at the Royal Institute of Magic. Watch how Ben and some of his friends are chosen as the guardians. See what their mission is.
Plenty of action, well written characters and lively dialogue. What a terrible loss this author is- I can only imagine the great books he would have gone on to write.
I am terribly grieved by the passing of Mr. Kloss. I so enjoyed this very unique fantasy world and all the characters. My condolences to his family and friends. I so would have loved more of this world from Mr. Kloss and am sorrowed that this cannot happen.
I love the innocence of the characters and how they grow and mature through the series and the relationships they build. The action is relatively nonstop throughout and the world of magic is enjoyable and awe-filled. This book series is one to read for any fantasy/ magic loving YA fan. This final book was a very satisfying ending but also left you wanting more.
It was a truly amazing finish for this series. I know that Victor's spirit was with Darren(his brother), who wrote this book using Victor's notes. You can tell that Darren's involvement with all the Royal Institute books as his brother wrote them was there from the start. He knew the characters, the story line and did a great job of completing book 7. I was not disappointed by even one second in The High Council. A super book to read and a wow on the conclusion.
This is the last book in this series and I really really liked it. Kept me entertained. Wonderful series and highly recommend to readers who liked Harry Potter series. A little different take on things but love the journey these characters took. The writer unfortunately passed away before he finished this book. He had things outlined and the storyline done but the family had to find someone to finish it. What a wonderful legacy Victor Kloss left.
I loved this book in the Royal Institute series. I was so sad to get to the last page. I hope his next book is out soon. This is a book for teens and older children, but I'm an older adult and loved it.
I am hoping this is not the end to the series. Mr. Kloss had me hooked on this series by the fifth page of the first book. His imagination and humor will be missed. This book was perfectly written and I hope Ben, Charlie, and Natalie find more adventures in the future.
I had read up to book five and when book six came out found i enjoyed far-reaching all the books again. Disappointed that I've finished the tale. Would like to follow these characters in other adventures. Also like to know what Aaron's reaction to Ben when he returned. This book definitely will hold your interest.
What an amazing series! I had the good fortune of discovering the series late, so I was able to read through them in a relatively short amount of time. I have to say my excitement and interest level was right up there with Narnia and Harry Potter. I felt Darren did an amazing job with #6 and I hope he will keep the Royal Institute of Magic open for years to come!
I thought the author did a wonderful job finishing this book and honoring the wishes of Victor!! Wonderful series, I am selfish in hoping that more books were outlined by Victor before he passed away! He had a wonderful talent.
I couldn't believe how great this handled by the family and ghost writer. This has become a nightly read with my daughter and I hope that there will be more to continue the series
I have read the entire series and highly recommend them. My grandchildren insisted I read them and I am glad they did so. I am sad to be finished and will miss the characters and most of all, the author. He was so talented and a gift to us all.
