It's 1983 and Lexi has more than gotten over her parent's divorce. Her new stepfather is okay and even her stepbrother isn't that bad. But her mom's remarriage meant Lexi had to leave Brooklyn for, of all places, New Jersey and that was just absolutely unacceptable. Jack just wanted to write songs and play guitar. His older brother had left for college and, hopefully soon, all the teachers would forget about the super genius and just leave Jack alone. But until that happened at least he had his own room, for the first time ever. On the first day of school they notice each other immediately. But neither one of them has a clue what to do next. This is Book One of Jack and Lexi's story. Book Two; Never Enough and Book Three; Come Back to Me can be found on Amanda Wilhelm's Amazon page. All three books and the full compilation are on Kindle Unlimited.
It wasn't that bad. It is your typical story about teenage love. Lexi has had to move from Brooklyn to New Jersey with her mom and step-father. Like many teens she wasn't happy about the new school and leaving her friends and she made sure to make it known every minute of the book. It was too the point of annoyance. Jack feels like he never lives up to his older brother. Unfortunately, he had good reason to feel that way because Jack's teacher definitively showed how much they preferred the brother by calling him by his brother name several times. Jack doesn't have the grades his brother does as he is more interested in music.
The story dragged on and on for me. It wasn't to the end that I cared what happens next and it doesn't even have anything to do with Jack or Lexi directly. What I want to know is what is going on with Lexi mother? The question is do I want to know bad enough to read book 2. The answer is meh. Maybe one day I'll get around to it but it hasn't made the tbr list.
This book is about a want to be musician with dreams of Juilliard and a young girlfriend who loves him and dreams of being a photographer he day. They have both had a hard live and their families are difficult but they find a way.
Blurb: Lexi did not want to move and nothing is going to make her happy about it. Except maybe that cute guy on the bus.
It's 1983 and Lexi has more than gotten over her parent's divorce. Having to move to New Jersey, however, is simply unacceptable. Lexi plans to go back to Brooklyn and stay with her dad, every weekend, whether her mom likes it or not. How else is Lexi going to see her friends? She never imagined she'd change her mind. But then she saw Jack.
Jack knows he was born to share his music, and his voice, with the world. His parents and teachers don't see it that way. And it's not just them. Everyone in town it seems, knows Jack as the one who doesn't measure up, to his brother's perfect academic record, that is. Then he sees the new girl on the bus and realizes she doesn't know anything about that. And maybe, just maybe, when she finds out, she won't care.
Jack and Lexi quickly become a couple. Then they become a team. Determined to make a life for themselves, on their own terms, they'll do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true. No risk is too big to take, not if it gets them one step closer to the fame they want, and the freedom they can't live without. After all, win or lose, they'll always have each other. Until they don't.
