I would love to split this rating. Four plus for the excellent story. Minus ten for the quality of the publication and the proofing of the book. As always, Audrey’s world is complicated by a death, then mayhem, more death and, finally, resolution. She is a fascinatingly atypical heroine. I hole there will be more stories.

Now to the publication. Easily the sloppiest, worst publication I have ever read. As an example...on page after page a sentence would come close to the end of a line and there would be a t on the end of the line and the rest of the word started the next line. If this happens once, you figure the setup had a hiccough. When it happens over and over, there is something seriously wrong. On top of that issue, there are missing words in the text, missing verbs and on and on. Thankfully, the story held my interest so I did finish the story.

Listen... I'm a Christian, but I am no prude. I have a... colorful past myself. But this... this book was just disturbing, and I'm still not sure if it's because of the content itself or the mind from which it sprang. (Can you separate the two??) Let me only say that there is a hefty LGBT agenda here that has absolutely no bearing on the plot itself, and the level of sexual promiscuity practiced by the CHILDREN in this book, and the neglectful support of that from the adults of the story is simply appalling. It's like this fictional town is in the 7th circle of hell. Anyway... this may be your thing, but I'm done here. I liked considering the psychological impact of the issues in the previous books, but this just bordered on debauchery run rampant. Sorry if that offends, this is just one woman's review.

For the most part, it stuck to the case, so there wasn't so much of the personal stuff that annoyed me in previous installments.

WARNINGS:

The paperback edition I read had at least five copyediting errors. e.g. Alisha's name changes to Alicia within one paragraph. Earlier books in the series are being republished, so hopefully there'll be a corrected new edition of Four of a Kind, too.

This is the fourth book in the Audrey Harte series and it was an amazing read. A young transgender girl comes up missing and then her body is found. Audrey is asked to counsel students at the local high school and help with the investigation. This story has lots of twists and turns and leaves the big reveal at the end. I highly recommend it.

I love this series. This one definitely had an easy to guess ending but there were many things I didn’t see coming which kept me on my toes.

Im very dissapointed. The copy I have has so many missing words and sentences that don't even finish. So I really didn't finish the book it was so frustrating to read. You probably have to read this series in order because I really didn't know the characters, even after reading the first book. I may go back and get the others in the series and come back to this one. For right now though I am done trying to figure this out.

Sounded good from the jacket but the writing was poorly edited and hard to read. Maybe the others in the series are better?

Quick read. Lots of typos though. T at the end of line, eeeew.

Good story about women and gals. Small town.

I usually don't like to read books in a series out of order, but I got this book at a book sale and didn't have access to the first 3 books so I started with this one. It was a mistake. One of the things I disliked the most about this book was all of the back story and references to previous events. I just lost interest or got confused and felt these parts were just a distraction from the main plot. Maybe I would have felt different if I was familiar with these characters from previous books.

Even though it wasn't a really in depth book, I like that it addressed some topics revolving around transgender issues and also racism. Unfortunately, all of the high school drama was a little too nauseating for me. One more annoying aspect of this book was how whenever a line ended with a th word (the, there, them, etc) the T would remain on the top line and the rest of the word would be on the line below. This really bugged me.

Well.....I finished the series. 🙃

This is the last book (so far) in the Audrey Harte series, and I can say that, wow. It's been a ride. And not a great one.

As we follow Audrey through out this series she is so focused on comparing and talking about her past with Maggie and the murder she committed and it got so repetitive that I caught myself skimming pages more than reading them. The first book was by far my favorite, 2 and 3...where eh and then this last one was ok, although the amount of mistakes and T's at the end of sentences was killing me.

The story it's self was different, to say the least. It was a mix of all the characters and their POV's. I did. I kind of figured out what was going on with Audrey after the first 3 hints at it and the talk of "having kids." Which is kind of a bummer. I like there being twists in books, but the ones in these are so predictable 😑.

All said and done, it was a decent series. There could have been more and less in each book, but it was an ok read, and I am not upset I read them! I enjoyed the journey, but this is where it ends for me.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about the way the representation of trans individuals was expressed in this book. I understood where she was coming from but it seemed kind of unnecessary to make sure that every insult under the sun was included just so she could say that one of her characters thought it was wrong. She did a similar thing about Neve’s race in a previous book in this series as well.
Tbh, the only book from this series that actually surprised me and gave me the best read was the first one. They’ve kind of puttered out for me plot-wise since then and the endings never shock me. Overall I kept reading the series because I was invested in the characters and I think Kate Kessler does a fairly good job fleshing them out. Wish we’d seen more of Audrey’s family in this one though, and I would have liked to have seen her and her sister patch things up as well as whether her mother recovered, et cetera.

There wasn’t anything particularly different about this book; I have just enjoyed Dr Harte and her world so much! This time it was more teenage drama, and the side character Neve, but there was still plenty of psychopathy and Jake ;) I even liked how Lincoln grew up! (It reminded me of Jason Stackhouse haha!) Alisha and Luke were a little much for me, just because they were 15, (which totally shows my age!) but I love how open Kessler was about love and the LGBTQ+ community; wonderfully (and at times sadly) topical!
My con? Can this series just keep going please? :) and if so, the news Audrey discovers, how would that play into things? Hmm. Happy to enjoy more, really enjoyed this series, the forensic psychology, the true crime, and maybe most of all? The Maine weather :)

I enjoyed reading this series, and am a little sad that this is the last book.
I found this series by looking at the "what other readers also read" for another book series and am glad I did. This was the first book series with a protagonist who was a murder, and you understand why she did what she did.
With all the mention of food I was both hungry and hoping there might have been recipes at the end of the book. I'm curious about putting molasses on biscuits. I live on the west coast and have never heard of that.
I had hoped there might have been another book in the series, set one year later so we can see how things have gone with various people in the town.

I think the biggest fault of this book is that it is poorly written. It's also just not that interesting.

There are a lot of typos. The 17-year-olds don't come across as 17-year-olds, but as middle schoolers in their attitudes and the way they talk. Not only that, but their tweets are giving either middle schooler or boomer trying to tweet like a kid.

People tell girls that they're "not like the other girls". And it isn't commentary on being a pick me. They're saying it like a legit compliment because, I guess, the author sees it as a legit compliment. It's not.

I didn't care about the romance between Alisha and Luke.

Audrey Harte is a strong woman. She has killed to protect her best friend, made it through juvie and survived to be on television as a forensic psychologist, built a life in New York but she has made her way back to her hometown and Jake. This story has Audrey building her dream clinic in her hometown and building a life with Jake. Of course there is always someone needing her help in this small gossipy town. These are fast reads since you won't be able to put them down once you get started.

This was the fourth in a series by Kate Kessler that I am really enjoying. The main character, Audrey Harte, is a psychologist specializing in teens. Her back story is very interesting. I won't say more as I don't want to give anything away. Trouble always seems to find Audrey, and the plots are twisty with surprise endings. In liked the fourth book as much as the others, however the editing needed work. This is not the author's fault but the printer's. Looking forward to #5.

Not overly impressed with this, I didn't realise it was book 4 of a series. The story itself was OK, characters likeable but the format a bit strange every line ending with a work beginning with T was split over two lines.

For a part work I'd normally start and want to read the others first but just plodded through, the little bits of back story was enough to give a decent idea of past history of the characters. I won't be rushing out to read the others unfortunately.

I can not get enough of Audrey Harte! I absolutely love the supporting cast of characters that populate this series. Kate Kessler's writing style reminds me of Lisa Gardner's D.D. Warren series. Totally fleshed our characters. Each flawed in their our ways. Yet they are totally relatable. If you are looking for a new character to invest your precious reading time to, look no further than Audrey Harte! Can't wait for the next one.

Four of a Kind is another intense, suspense-packed entry in the Audrey Harte series. I was hooked from the very beginning—Audrey is smart, determined, and such a compelling protagonist. I love how her character keeps growing with each book, facing danger head-on while navigating her own emotional challenges.

The plot is fast paced with twists that kept me guessing the whole time. Kessler balances suspense, mystery, and character development so well, making it impossible to put down.

I had a hard time putting this book down. I read it in 4 days which is quick for me. I like that I already know the characters and their back story. Another good story about Audrey and her family. I agree with one reviewer, the copy I had looked like it hadn't been edited completely which was distracting.

Another great novel by Kessler! I absolutely love Audrey and her world, including all the diverse characters. This one left me reeling and on the edge of my seat. I felt so confident I knew who it was but was left in shock when I was wrong. It’s fantastic plot has twists and turns you don’t see coming. Definite 5/5, I would recommend this book to anyone.

I give the story 5 stars, however the editing was a 3. Making the book 4 stars. It was another page turner. Back to the story line that is intriguing and makes you want to read until you find out what happens at the end. Parts of the editing brought me out of the story however which is why it brought it down to 4. Another great topic and novel from Kate. Thank you for the Audrey series!

Terribly edited. Not sure how this made it to print with as many errors.
Easy reading.

Not something I would recommend. There are lots of views and and situations I don't agree with being a Christian.

LOTS of typos and you really have to follow the story near the end as the characters being referenced are not the right characters if you follow the conversation.
Overall- was OK. I just wanted to finish the series

Good story and for that I give it a 4*, but copyediting was a complete fail therefore a 3*. Way too many grammatical errors and print errors made it at times a frustrating and distracting read. That print should have been pulled off the shelves!

I love the characters in this book. Particularly Alicia and Luke reminds me of my high school days! The mystery behind the murder is intriguing and the author breaks it down really nicely. I am going to read the previous book (Three Strikes)

The fourth book in the series, Four Of A Kind is reminiscent of the first novel. It has the twists of the other three novels, but still had its expected twists. (if you know, you know). I hope that there is more Audrey Harte to come because I love this badass chick so much!

I saw this on a shelf in my local Indigo, and I didn’t realize this is a series, but holy crap, it was such a good read, I was taking notes since some details didn’t make sense, but I definitely recommend this.
