Harker Chronicles #3

The Last Judgement

Rate this book
The dead are rising. The world hangs in the balance… A man holds a gun to Professor Alex Harker in a Cambridge University lecture room. He wants to know about the mysterious Codex Gigas. But before Harker can learn more the man shoots himself, threatening Harker’s girlfriend Chloe as he does so.

Soon Harker is deep in a life or death struggle that takes him to Berlin, Italy and France. It seems that, thanks to the Codex, the dead are rising. It can only mean one Judgement Day. Or does it?

In a game of crosses and double crosses, Harker doesn’t know who or what to believe anymore. Behind the lies, behind the Vatican, behind the Codex, is the most terrible puppet master of all…

A white-knuckle thriller perfect for fans of Dan Brown, Scott Mariani and Chris Kuzneski.

Another volume in the series that will have you in the edge of your seat wondering if the bad guys will win. Again, the scene is set with supernatural events relating to raising the dead and we are introduced to a few new characters and some old friends as they try to get to grips with what is actually happening... and more importantly, why. The book is action packed and fast paced. I remained intrigued and spell bound all the way through it. Another excellent read.

This was never going to be great literature but it is entertaining and a rip-roaring action adventure which requires rather a lot of belief-suspension.

It is certainly fast-paced and could be described as a page-turner in the Dan Brown / James Rollins style. However, it is fantasy and anyone who imagines that the 'biology' featured in this book could actually happen must have failed their GCSE Biology exam dismally. But never mind - it's fiction so who cares!

The story revolves around our hero - Alex Harker - and several of his friends, chasing after some missing pages from a 'codex' supposedly written by the devil, and able to bring the dead back to life. They are being chased by not one, but two shady organisation, both highly secretive, one good and one bad.

The main characters all have back stories and personalities. Almost all the characters are male except for the girlfriend Chloe - a largely absent 'damsel in distress' - and two female baddies who don't feature for long.

The plot is mostly over-the-top fun and has quite a few twists along the way; it's a bit gruesome in places though. This is book three in a series and there are many references to the two previous books, so although this could (just!) be read as a stand-alone book it would be better to have read "Relics" and "The 4th Secret" first. In summary, it's a rollicking adventure and well worth the time if you are willing and able to suspend belief. 3.5 stars.

The Series is Over? Say It's Not, Please

Each of the 2 books following the introduction, just got better and better. Each of the books had new characters introduced that seemlessly fit into the whole series. The only character, albeit, a minor character named Albert, had an inconsequential role.
Loved the Series and I initially purchased the first book because it appeared to deal with one of my favorite groups, the Templars.
After this review is written, I'm going to be looking for books written by R D Shah. And to think I initially thought that his first book would bee like a Dan Brown book. Was I ever pleasently wrong.

Intriguing concept of good vs evil

This book even though fiction makes you think about the hidden battle between good and evil in today's world. Is there some unseen war going on right under our noses and we are either too stupid to see it or we don't want to see it. I personally believe that is in fact happening, so the true question is this. Is the book really totally fiction?

A GREAT ADVENTURE IT IS....

Hello, I really like these stories. However, I'm a little disappointed in them at the same time. I would like to see a good dose of magic, sorcery, divine intervention and/or something along those lines. I think it would do all the characters a lot of good. Just my thoughts. Thanks.

Wrapped Up

Very imaginative and intriguing. It kept the reader looking for the next chapter. Mr. Shaw has a diabolical mind and shared it well. He wrapped up the story line with just enough to keep I
the reader wondering. what's next. I trust we'll see less grammatical errors in new works.

A captivating close

Nice to have answers while guessing through the last printed word. Remaining questions leave earned possibilities. Left wanting more without feeling anything was omitted.

Next in a creative series

Good story-
Nice plot twist but again frustratingly weak copy editing. Character of Chloe was a bit thin. But good for a summer book.

The third book in the Harker chronicles by R D Shah is a nail-biting cliffhanger. The plot seems to get better with every new book in the sequel, gripping the readers. In this episode, the protagonist Alex Harker is coerced into finding some missing pages of the mysterious Codex Gigas, failing which his girlfriend Chloe would be killed. With the help of a friend in Berlin, Alex follows a trail of leads given by one self-proclaimed 'God' to recover the missing pages. The plot thickens as every page is recovered and time is running short for Alex to find the whereabouts of his girlfriend. With his templar friends, they eventually pin down the epicenter of the origin of the drama and reach out in time to rescue her girlfriend and his friend from Berlin. The climax is an action-packed stint when the true identity of 'God' is revealed and also his nefarious plans to conquer humanity. The characters in the plot have their origins from the previous books in the series and there are quite a few references to the preceding events as well. Overall a brilliantly weaved plot with twists and turns that could be depicted as fictional suspense for readers who follow Dan Brown and James Rollins. Recommend to read all the books in order, although each of them can be read as a standalone. Interesting to see what the author has in store in the next two books in the series, which I am going to read soon.

The third in the series of Professor Alex Harker, Cambridge lecturer, starts off with a bang, literally. He is held hostage by a man demanding he find some missing pages of the Codex Gigas which are purported to have been written by Satan himself. A cult of Satan worshipers wants it badly. This leads Alex on another wild tour of Europe in search of the pages in order to keep his kidnapped girlfriend alive. All of this mystery leads to even his friends the Templars hunting him down.
I read it in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. Another great read for thriller and conspiracy theorist lovers.

What an absolute cracker of a book. This series is proving to be brilliantly entertaining and thrilling. If the other in the series continues at the same pace it will be one of the best conspiracy type thriller series I’ve ever read.

Decent, but the further it went on, the more it seemed you needed to have read the other two inthe series first. Indiana Jones esque with a smattering of Da Vinci Code

I am reviewing this book for R.D. Shah, Canelo, and NetGalley who gave me a copy of their book for an honest review.
Despite being the third in the series, it can be read by itself. It does refer to other events but these can be glossed over. It is a fast paced adventure book
The main character, Harker, is searching for some missing codex pages and obviously baddies are also trying to discover them. Quite a few twists and turns to keep you thinking.
