Book 3 of the series, I found this one a bit bland compared to the previous two. The geopolitical intrigue of the international system kept me engaged while reading the first two books but this one didn't give too 'war-is-politics' in the story. Of course, China invades Taiwan while the United States is focused elsewhere. While I agree that many of the characters are flat, my biggest beef with the series endures. The poor examples of tactical combat that Rosone describes and a plethora of minor errors distract the hell out of me!

Criticism aside, Rosone does provide a thought experiment into a Taiwanese defense strategy. If Tawain cannot hope to defend itself without U.S. support, maybe it should focus on building an insurgent structure - deterrence by denying an easy victory. This is one of the benefits of reading fiction. It provides a possible future that insulates us from surprise. Once pondered, an idea is far less shocking than if we've never remotely considered it before.

I do look forward to the next book - if nothing else, I know the good and the bad to expect.

Clancy and Bond in their prime

I've read the first three in record time for me and enjoyed them all. The beginning of Battlefield Ukraine had quite a bit of necessary scene setting so it was a bit slow. Once the action started it took off like a machine gun! I fired one so I know! So many similar books seem to have a foreseeable ending where the good guys win. Not this series! The Allies take some significant losses in the field which makes the different scenarios more realistic. Rosone is as good as Tom Clancy and Larry Bond in their prime, in my opinion. These volumes are every bit as detailed and intense as Red Storm Rising. There aren't many continuing characters but the battle action will satisfy any techno thriller junkie!! A very good ride!

Battlefield Taiwan. James Rosone

Russia and China have masterfully planned for years to regain their place as the two dominant superpowers. Russia initially invades the Ukraine, and keeps advancing onward. Even the Nordic countries, Finland and Norway are invaded. Are military supply lines, manpower and weaponry are severely crippled. NATO forces are also crippled. China then invades Vietnam. Then Taiwan is invaded. We are unable to come to their aid. Our forces are stretched to thin and we don't even have ample manpower to respond. We are playing catch up, as well as are allies. In America the draft is reinstated. Simply put, we are in dire straits. Unfortunately, this is a very believable scenario. This book is extremely well written and can also be classified as a standalone novel, but I highly recommend you read this series in order. Enjoyed immensely. My highest recommendation.

This is the third book in the Red Storm series and, in keeping with the storyline of the previous two books, this alternative history book is fast paced. The authors skillfully blend current events with a fictitious war in such a way that the story is both fascinating and terrifying because it seems so plausible. While each book in the series could be a stand alone, they can best be appreciated if read in order. If you are looking for a Pollyanna type story where the good guys always win and the bad guys get their just deserts then you will be somewhat disappointed. These books have too much in common with reality to be that sort of book. The books are so realistic that they read like a history book, not an alternative history fiction. No one can truly predict the future, but there are predictable futures and the one captured in this series is all too predictable to not leave the reader slightly uneasy. I can only hope it is just a cautionary tale.

This is the third book in the Red Storm series--fast paced alternative history book. There are a plethora of characters ranging from the POTUS to the front line Sergeant; somehow, he keeps them all straight in the reader's mind. The thesis is intriguing, that Russia and China have plotted for years to push aside American hegimony. Author's military experience and/or research is obvious in the narrative, but he seems to have missed the idea that American forces fight as joint or coalition operations. For example, the use of Air Force and Navy "liaison officer" in Korea take the place of full up operational components. Also, POTUS makes operational decisions about bomber employment--remember LBJ? :-( That said, the stories were exciting and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

I wish to correct a few very typical American assumptions. At one point you mention "British Destroyers" but in the next chapter you mention the "Prime Minister of England". England does NOT have a Prime Minister.

Great Britain is made up of the three countries of England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is made up of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom has a Prime Minister. Saying the Prime Minister of England is like saying the President of Texas.

The Royal Navy is NOT an English Navy. It is often referred to as the British Navy but it is in actual fact the navy of the United Kingdom.

Other than that; I am enjoying reading the series.

Another awesome book continuing the World War III saga by James Rosone and Miranda Watson that I discovered by joining a Facebook group, Military Thriller Book Group.

This is a continuation of the Battlefield series (now I just have to find a copy of Battlefield Pacific) with the war spilling over to include an invasion of the island of Taiwan (Formosa).

Would highly recommend this series to any military fiction or action afficiendo and would easily rate this novel a solid five stars out of five for the action and detail.

As with all my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents worth.

A JR. Military Action Novel (RSS. -3)/China vs Taiwan, Us, Australia and Japan

JR. had. penned the third novel in Battlefield novels, which includes main-land China attacking the Island since the independence of Taiwan. It has been a battle of skirmishes for years, but has imploded into a full scale war. The major problems the men have had is the constant war time footing. The latest attack is one that has been coming for 70 years. The US, Japan and Australia. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

3.5 🎇 I continue reading the series in recommended order and find them entertaining and even educational due to the strategies, locations, weaponry, etc., that are in play. I also see consistent questionable grammar and choice of words used in conversations. Editing? Sometimes way too formal other times way too informal for the situation - a bit stilted and unnatural...imo. Fast paced and fairly believable scenarios - given what is happening re Ukraine and Taiwan in the news today. What if...???

Very enjoyable, I like the links from one book to another, it allows for continuity. If you like moving story lines with possible future scenarios and influence have a read. But do start with the first book.

Like love these types of books, a little of 'It could happen' with very topical political posturing. The world still carries on, we still don't stop and think, war after war. I also enjoy the more personal notes as character s come to life.

Pace, reality, the book pulls you into the battles and mixes both sides perceptive in a good way. It pays to have a atlas so you can plot and see fighting. I would recommend this book and the series to any real follower of to read. I put five stars for all the series.

Pace, reality, a series you cannot put down. You are drawn into the pages by the description and laying out of the action like on canvas.

Much better than #2

The pace picked up and more of the geopolitical side was included making this better than #2. The story has more depth now and is focused on ensuing both Allies and China/Russian pact have their sides told without the stereotypical "Americans are always best and lucky" story.

The series continues. Given the premise of the first two books, the story is realistic and believable. The action is excellent and consistent and the primary characters are sufficiently developed to make the read enjoyable.
My biggest complaint is that, as a binge reader, I just finished the first three in the series and am not happy about having to wait for the next installment! :(

Following the characters can be a bit tough as things bounce around between a lot of moving parts. But, it is about a world war... which takes place in many places at once, so I think James has gotten better over the series about building some rapore with the characters. Otherwise, it's definitely an interesting read.

Battlefield Taiwan

Well written and I feel very believable. While this is a fiction story it scores a direct hit on what, I feel could happen. Recommend reading the Red Storm Series from the start and don't wait too long between books. I had been so long between books 2 & 3, that I had to reread book 2, to get caught up with the characters.

The War Continues.....

This series only gets better with each book. Viewing the war from the different armies adds depth to the story. The characters are real and the events are believable. Looking forward to book 4.

Each book gets better than the previous book

If that’s even possible! I seldom try to write these because I’m far from being a critic and really don’t know how to express my thoughts but I will say this....... I know what I like and I LOVE this series!!!

Action-Packed WWIII Story

Technically sound with a tight narrative.... This third instalment in the Red Storm Series is perhaps the best yet. The political and battlefield views are well-integrated. The political story really accelerates.

As with the other books in the series, this delivers a plausible scenario for a Third World War. It does, however, suffer from some terribly stilted and cumbersome conversations from the characters.

Enjoyable reading

The book grabs you from the begining and hangs into you. The story is good. The battle scenes are well done. There is a definite knowledge of military equipment and the results of warfare.

Excellent continuation of the series. The Red Storm is looking bleak for the Allies and things progress faster than America and her Allies rally to fight back. I really enjoy that the series hasn’t had any lulls thus far, it’s been full speed ahead the entire time.
