Will has thirty days to court his mail-ordered bride.
William Travis can’t believe his eyes. The prim beauty who steps off the train can’t be the same woman he paid to come to Texas... and marry him. Charlotte’s too young, too sassy, and far too delicate to be a proper ranch wife.
The marriage proxy is signed, and they’ll live as man and wife, but only after a thirty-day trial. Will never imagined Charlotte would be so captivating. Or so vexing.
She insists on the full trial period. She also insists on teasing him and defying him too.
Will’s certain of one thing. Thirty days have never passed so slowly…
Her gruff cowboy cares little for courting.
Charlotte comes from Boston to meet the man who offers his name, but not his heart. Will vows he has no use for romance or pretty words. She’s certain she doesn’t mind. At least here in Texas she won’t be fending off lecherous employers.
A cold husband is better than a ruined reputation.
But from the first moment she meets Will, the sparks fly.
He thinks she’s a foolish girl. She’s sure he’s an impossible, domineering man. Despite that, with each day she falls a little more for a man who will never offer his heart.
Charlotte’s certain of one thing. Thirty days have never passed so quickly…
***Standalone novel, HEA, no cheating and no cliffhanger, strong language***
"Mail Order Sass" is the story of Charlotte and Will.
A short spanking western with the plot of heroine travelling as the mail order bride for a "controlling" hero, and how she adjusts to being his wife before they begin their intimate relations. I found it sweet with low angst and drama. I wish we had more spanking/sex scenes, or even where we got to know the psyche of the couple- but this was a smooth sailing, quick paced, time killer.
Cute, hot little novella about a rugged Texas cowboy and his sassy mail-order bride. William wasn't looking for love but wanted a wife as a helpmate on his ranch. He was surprised when he meets Charlotte - she's too pretty, too young and too sweet for him. He didn't promise her love, but promised he would take care of her. Charlotte is an orphan and wants a home, a husband and a family. She is a little worried about Will, about his temper, about his apparent dislike of her and starts to worry that he won't want her to stay. These two are sweet together and the book heats up the longer they get to know each other. Cute story, Alix West delivers a guaranteed good read!
°Virgin heroine °Hero's sexual past wasn't mentioned but he didn't seem to be a manwhore °Switching POVs °Hero is 35, heroine is 22 °Both faithful after meeting °Alpha hero °Feisty heroine °Free of OW/OM drama °No separation °No cheating °Slight pushing away from the hero °Intimate scenes only between hero and heroine °Epilogue: 1.5 years later
Stupid, boring but short. Not worth reading, this story jumps around and does not even remotely attempt to have historical accuracy. Do not recommend - waste of time.
The writing was a little awkward and the story a bit rushed but I enjoyed the storyline overall. I enjoyed the banter between Charlotte and Will, especially as Charlotte became more and more comfortable in her role as his wife. Not a bad read.
Will Travis is not interested in romance. He needs a companion, a woman to assist him run the farm, while he and his brothers tend the cattle. Therefore, he prefers to choose a bride by mail order.
Charlotte was raised in an orphanage, abandoned by her mother as a baby. Alone in the world, she decided to answer to the announcement at a bridal agency, and for a while she exchanges letter with Will Travis from Texas.
He sent her enough money to travel first class - and not to be disturbed by other men. She used to make new clothes with the skill as seamstress she had (until then, she had only dressed second hand clothes).
When he arrived at the train station to pick his future wife up, Will did not imagine she would be so beautiful. That would be a big problem, because now he couldn't stop thinking about his wife. Especially because he'd promised her they'd wait thirty days to have sex so she had a chance to know him.
This was being a greater torment than expected!! And as the days go by and they know each other, the certainty that that marriage had a chance to work out only increased, and gave ideas so that his two brothers, Seth and Nick, would follow the same path. Cute book. 5 stars
William Travis has written for a mail-order bride. At age 35, he is looking for a helpmate near his age to help at the ranch. When he meets Charlotte at the train station, he is taken aback by her youth and beauty -- she is delicate and he doubts she will work for his needs. Yet her sass hits his buttons.
Charlotte requests 30 days to get to know him before going to his bed. William avoids her, but Charlotte keeps putting herself in his face -- helping Mary load the wagon for the cattle drive, birthing a foal, then hiding in the wagon to join the cattle drive.
William is in love with Charlotte and enjoys teasing her. He also has awakened her sexual appetite through light discipline spankings.
William Travis is about to meet his mail order bride Charlotte. Charlotte is traveling by train from the Boston orphanage where she had been. When there was a little ruckus with a drunkard as she was getting off the train, William came to her rescue. At first he didn't know it was Charlotte he was rescuing. He was looking for an older woman, only to discover Charlotte was his bride to be. William tries to keep up his clipped , masculine tone but quickly learns Charlotte has some sass to her as well. This was a nice short historical romance with some sweet characters.
Young girl from a Catholic orphanage, agrees to a proxy marriage, as a mail order bride. The agreement was that her husband would court her for 30 days, before she joined him, as wife. There are doubts, on both sides and perhaps even a rethink of wants and needs, at first meeting. We follow the couple through those long torturous 30 days. It is a fulfilling journey.
I read it within 2 hours so that should tell me a lot. This is an "OK" novel simply because I felt it was one that had the essential elements to make a true story of a rancher who sends for a mail order bride that he just happens to like when they meet.
It did not quite live up to a story, but it was ... okay
Charlotte is not as sassy as expected. Will is an alpha though, dominating his little wife when he sees fit. Good short story with just enough tension to keep you turning the pages.
If you like cowboys and historical with sassy women and strong handed men this is the book to read. I really emo Alix's books just short enough for a lunch break long enough to make you salivate.
I enjoyed reading this historical mail order bride short book. It is an enjoyable quick read. I was surprised at the somewhat graphic sex scenes which are usually not in this type of book. It was limited though.
Loved Will. This book was sweet sassy funny and sexy. Im not a big western or older romance reader but Alix West makes these books funny and a pleasure to read. Plus spankings yummy!
This was another recommendation I just did not like it at all. The story was barely there and the guy was a JERK. I did not like him at all. I just wasn’t a fan!
If you like sweet romances with just a hint of sexy, then this is for you. There isn't a lot of conflict and no danger, just the leads getting to know each other.
