To be honest, I read half the book thoroughly and skimmed through the rest. The book is definitely NOT what you would call light reading and the tone of writing is somewhat dry. But then again, the topic is quite difficult as well.

If you're really interested in the philosophical aspects of politics, political decisions and what past and current political thinkers have to say, then this is the book for you. But if you expect political analyses, explanations of political notions, movements and so on (as I did), you won't find this here.

Plant seems extremely well-versed in this topic and has put a lot of work and thought in the book and referenced many other relevant works. So the book itself is quality material. So in this sense, it deserves 5 stars, but I had to give it 2 stars because of my subjective opinion, unmet expectations and a somewhat misleading title.

read till chapter 4, Plant gives an. amazing overview in how desert, need and want plays an important role in Political theory
