This book tells the story of a mother wolf that gives birth to wolf pups. It shows and talks of the family dynamic that wolves live in. The different roles, the mother is staying in the den while the father wold goes out in search of food. The wolf pups grow up and become part of the pack. The problem in the book is that an eagle is trying to take the pups.
This book is geared toward the younger grades, k-2. I would use it to help the students learn about family dynamics.
The great thing about this book is that the pictures tell the story as well as the words. The students could read or look over this book without adult help.

Kay Winters has a talent and voice for sharing science and historic content with minimal but expressive text in gorgeous and appealing picture books. This is one of her best examples, offering rich options for science study, mentor writing, cause and effect, and text to text comparisons with titles like Jean Craighead George's LOOK TO THE NORTH: A WOLF PUP DIARY that was published the same year, 1997.

Beautiful art! Very realistic. Wolves hold a special place in my heart and I hope for all kids to love them.I was very afraid of wolves as a child until I read a book about them that changed my mind. I didn't like how the eagle was the bad guy

The illustrations are beautiful, but the story isn't that detailed and feels a bit choppy in some parts.
