The Second Born: ‘The Gant House’

Rate this book
Tempers would flare with the old man breaking his promises yet again. My anger would overcome me when I planned his demise that he’d never hurt us ever again. With tall tales of Whiskey Holler and times gone past old Harry at ninety, would become a dear friend of mine. It was uplifting Calvin’s return and with a host of others to work the woods, especially with James falling in love and never being around when I needed him. The moon and stars reflecting in her eyes kindled my desire of a first kiss. The unexpected shock when the face a boy my age peered through the cars window, that of a half-brother? I yearned for the day that I might beat all others to feel a thin tape snap across my chest victorious once again. I’d crawl no further wailing of my losses, there’d be no miracle.

Wow!

One of the best biography’s, the author writes first hand and draws you right in to his life growing up in southern Ohio. You feel like your right there.
He and his siblings have lived a trying childhood under an alcoholic turned preacher, turned alcoholic back and forth.
Their God fearing mother has kept the family together.
But the tragedy that has struck this family is unbelievable.
Set in the 1960s, Arnold’s story is very well detailed about his and his older brother’s lives growing up in that era.
This is the third book Arnold Robinson has written about their upbringings. I am hoping it is not the last.
Highly recommend, amazing writer that kept with well detailed descriptions of the times they lived in and the horrendous tragedy that feel on this family.
