The publisher sent a sample of this book which includes three stories: two from Europe, and one from North America. The illustrations done by Aitch are beautifully drawn and the young readers would absolutely love them.

When I'd read the title of this book, some of the Philippine fables crossed my mind. One particular animal fable that is really popular here in our country is the story of The Turtle and The Monkey. Hence, I was really expecting that story, which was popularized by our national hero Dr. José Rizal, will be included in this book. I'm a little disappointed that it is not; nevertheless, I still enjoyed reading the ARC/sample copy that the publisher provided.

Čo svetadiel, to iný príbeh.

I love how McAllister put together A World Full of Animal Stories. Being able to find out the origin of stories about animals we have heard for years was fun as an adult, but also excellent for children to learn as they heard the stories. My current classroom is studying animals of all kinds and it was fun to consult the book to find out if there were any stories about our animal and where it originated. This book also inspired wonderful thinking about writing animal tales.

Krásna kniha a skvelý výber príbehov, len sem tam hapruje korektúra, je tam viacero preklepov a chýb. Škoda, milujem túto sériu a bolo by super, keby vychytali aj drobnosti. Moje deti milujú tie ilustrácie a pozeráme čítame ich každý večer už pár týždňov.

This appears to be a beautiful book, but also thick and dense. Each story takes a few pages with illustrations sprinkled throughout.

This is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have ever seen, I also loved the diversity when it came to where all of the stories were coming from. There were several familiar stories that I had heard growing up but several new ones. It would be a wonderful book to have for story time in a classroom or to give for a child's birthday or baby shower!

This book is a beautiful and interesting extravaganza of folktales and legends that celebrate animals and culture, some that will be familiar to you and some that won’t. These stories are brought to life as we travel the globe to Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe, Australia and Oceania.

This book made me feel like an 8 year old again, flicking through a book full of cultural stories, with strong messages and admiring illustrations that are a little bit different to what I have been seeing of late. I smile because I know this book will be admired and poured over by so many children and their parents, where they too will enjoy tales from around the world that take us to another time and place.

My interest was piqued when finding out where in the world familiar stories such as The Billy Goats Gruff, The Nightingale, and The Ugly Duckling came from. For example, The Ugly Duckling Came from Denmark and The Billy Goats Gruff came from from Norway, to be honest I have never really thought of this but was still somewhat surprised. In the contents guide it has each of the stories listed under the continent they belong to, with the country that relates to the story in brackets next to its title.

The stories aren’t long, this makes it perfect for bedtime stories. One story a night will give your child something to think and talk about. This would also would be great for the classroom, particularly when learning about different cultural stories and traditions.

Who can resist stories that begin with Some say that, Long ago, that the pandas…

Thank you to Allen and Unwin for the opportunity to read and review this book

I love the layout, illustrations, and diversity of origin of the stories in this book. I found the table of contents, arranged by continent and specifying the nation of origin for each tale, to be very helpful when looking for stories to support a particular geographic/cultural unit. I was also fascinated by the source notes at the back which show that many of the stories come from books that are over 100 years old, and all of the sources noted are more than 50 years old. However, I found many of the stories themselves to be somewhat disturbing, and some of those with which I was familiar seemed to be truncated versions.

I did find a few stories in this book that I liked enough to want to share them with children. They are:
"Ananse and the Python" (a story from Ghana)
"Why the Swallow's Tail is Forked" (A Native American Indian story)
"Why the Bear Has a Stumpy Tail" (An Iroquois Story)
"How the King of the Birds Was Chosen" (a Mayan story)
"How the Beetles Got Their Gorgeous Coats" (A Story from Brazil)
"The Owl of Cowlyd Coomb" (a story from Wales)
"The Eagle and the Wren" (a story from Scotland)"
"The White Parrot" (A Spanish Story)
"How the Kangaroo Got Her Pouch" (a story from Australia)

As we already own A Year Full Of Stories by Angela McAllister we were excited to see a second book was being released and that the publisher had selected us to view an advanced copy which contains three of the stories and the contents page.

For anyone that loves A Year Full Of Stories, this will be a wonderful addition to your children's home library. Though the illustrations are done by another artist the two books definitely contain the same style about them, to the point many won't realise they aren't the same artist, however the artist for this book adds a bit more detail to the animals which I believe is a perfect addition to the stories.

The three stories contained in the copy we were sent were interesting, some are stories that are well known while others will be new to readers. The stories are also sorted into areas of the globe they originate from, looking at the contents list is very exciting, and we can't wait to read and experience the full physical book when it is released.

Overall this will be a wonderful addition to a families library and we look forward to its release so we are able to add it to ours.

I have always loved folk tales and stories from around the world. This big, beautifully designed book contains 50 short pieces about animals of all sorts, grouped together by the area of the world each one comes from. The writing is clear and appealing to read silently or out loud and, of course, tales being what they are, some have baffling endings! Two of my favorites are THE WHITE BUTTERFLY from Japan and THE LEGEND OF THE PANDA from Tibet, both tales of loyalty and love. The pictures are so beautiful, wildly colorful and full of charm in a deliciously folksy sort of way. I adore the endpapers which show an organized crowd of animal characters that some will find fun to match with their twin within the book. My used bookstore copy has a bent cover which I would like to think is a sign that it was loved for years, held and flipped through over and over, with great curiosity and pleasure.

The cover of this book caught my attention, A World Full of Animal Stories. The stories and illustrations held it. Some of the traditional folk stories are well known such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff, others from distant places were new to me. I enjoyed reading the updated version of The Three Little Pigs, it had been given a contemporary feel with names for the pigs. A Spanish story called The White Parrot had a positive message about being content with what you have. The illustrations are detailed and beautiful. I can imagine reading this to children, exploring a world of animal stories between the pages of this beautiful book. It could be used to look at stories from different cultures.

First and foremost, many thanks go to NetGalley and the Quarto Publishing Group for the chance to read this amazing ARC.

A World Full of Animal Stories is a fun and engaging read for children. They will delight in the beautiful pictures and equally enjoyable stories from around the world. It will feel to them as though they have escaped to the faraway land where the tales takes place, and it is the imagination of life that sets this book apart. As a librarian and mother, this book will be a purchase that I make for my library and my own home.

I received an ARC edition from the Quarto Publishing Group in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.

The book includes 50 animal-themed fables, myths, and legends. We find, for example, King of the Cats from Scotland and "The First Woodpecker," which is a Native American story. A child could use these tales to learn about geography, different cultures, and increase his/her vocabulary. Likely, it is more appropriate for children 6-10, but at only 128 pages, I enjoyed the tales as a nice break in my February reading. Moreover, it provide me the chance to decide whether to purchase the book for my two youngest grandchildren.

I have to give this book five stars because the illustrations are so, so beautiful (they are reason enough to peruse this book), and because Aurelia has enthusiastically asked to read every single folktale, even though the stories are definitely meant for kids a bit older than her and aspects are beyond her complete comprehension.

This book is stunning! The stories are captivating and well written for a wide variety of ages - my 2 and 4 year old will listen without wandering, as the language is approachable and moves at a good pace. The illustrations are perfectly paired to the stories and add a beautiful touch to this book. It's a bedtime favorite for us!

Spectacular collection of short folktales-- many of them you can read in less than five minutes. A perfect book for teachers and storytellers who want to learn short stories to tell orally or to read during transition times. I have read loads of folktale collections and there were very few in this collection that I had encountered before.

Great book for kids with one huge problem: the animals pictured on the cover & endpapers ARENT THE ONES IN THE STORIES IN THE BOOK…. Why?!?!! This has caused such a headache for me when my kid sees a picture of an animal, says he wants to read that story, and I have to explain—though there’s no explanation I can think of—that there’s no corresponding story 🤦‍♀️

Krásna kniha z mojej milovanej série, táto je zatiaľ asi moja najobľúbenejšia a ilustrácie zas najviac zaujali moje deti. Krásny preklad, Slovart robí v tomto smere dobrú prácu, len ešte trochu pozornosti korektúre by to chcelo venovať, ušlo im viacero preklepov a chybičiek. Napriek tomu kniha, ku ktorej sa vraciame po mnoho večerov.
