I was born in Hounslow, Middlesex in the south of England. As a child, I loved drawing and took private art classes with a wonderful teacher called, Pearl Lee. She had an abundance of Disney magazines, and I would paint the characters on wood, card, canvas or anything else I was allowed to use, including walls.

When I was nine, my mum took me on holiday to Majorca. I clearly remember being fascinated by how other people lived outside of England. Travelling became my new obsession.

After Sixth Form College, I intended to go to art school, but...

Overview
With the holiday season coming up, this is a definite read for children who need a touch of hope and humor. Loosely based on the concepts of reindeer who fly through the sky, with a famous one named Rudolph, this beautiful picture book takes off dashing from there... the lead reindeer character, Ronaldo, is named for a famous soccer player -- you can imagine the great amount of other antics incorporated in the rest of the book. The background story that Maxine Sylvester has created is pure imagination woven tightly with a reality we all know.

In this second book in the series, the reindeer crew, in school to learn how to properly fly, meet a young wolf who needs help finding her pack. She's feisty and protective, loyal and adorable. The book makes you feel part of the story, including the wonderful drawings done by the author herself. Add in a contest, a scary forest and a kooky instructor, there are bunches of warm moments and great arcs to tantalize kids with as you read to them. I highly recommend this series.

What a lovely, fun Christmas book for the kids. We have Ronaldo, the fastest cadet the Reindeer Flying Academy has ever seen, and he's gearing up to break the record in the speed test. However when he comes across a lost wolf cub, he and his best friend Rudolf have to help her become reunited with her pack, and it looks like he may have to miss out on the speed record as a result. So Ronaldo has to make a choice- to achieve the speed record and the acclaim that comes with it, or to help his new friend find her family.

Beautifully illustrated and well told, Ronaldo is a breath of fresh air. I couldn't keep the smile off my face while reading it and the kids will love it, fart jokes and all. This is one of the best kids books I've read in ages. Highly recommended.

My thanks to the author Maxine Sylvester for a copy to read and review. The opinions are entirely my own.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This book was adorable. It perfectly captures the innocence of childhood while lightly touching on bullying. I enjoyed the friendship between the wolves and the reindeer. This has an excellent storyline for children and adults as well:)

Book Reviewed on www.whisperingstories.com

Reindeer Ronaldo (named after the footballer) is training for the speed flying test at school. He really wants to become the fastest flying reindeer in history.

Near to where the reindeer’s train is the ‘Forest of Doom’ which is filled with wolves. The reindeer are forbidden from entering the forest, nor are they allowed to fly over it as the wolves are forever hungry and there are plenty of reindeer’s that have been eaten by them.

One day Ronaldo comes face to face with one of the wolves. He soon realises that the wolf is just a pup. She tells him that she has lost her mum and dad and doesn’t know how to find them. Ronaldo and his best friend Rudi decide to help the little wolf pup find her family, but can Ronaldo both train to be the fastest and look after a little pup until they can find her family too?

Ronaldo: The Phantom Carrot Snatcher is the second book in the Ronaldo the Flying Reindeer series by Maxine Sylvester. I haven’t read the first book but all the books can be read as standalone’s so it didn’t hinder my reading.

Ronaldo or Ronny as his friends call him is a cadet at the local flying school. His classmates are Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Vixen, Prancer, and Rudolph (Rudi). They are all training to be the fastest flying reindeer and take the gold medal.

The book is all about friendship and about helping and caring for one another. Although Ronaldo is at first scared of the little wolf pup after all the stories he’s been told about the wolves, he soon realises that she needs his help. In return, the little pup also helps Ronaldo out when he needs help too. Hopefully, the plot will have children learning all about being kind and helpful.

The illustrations are really beautiful and colourful. They truly do bring the story to life. I also love some of the faces that Ronaldo pulls – These did give me the giggles.

The book is a lot of fun and is very enjoyable from beginning to end. There are more stories available in the series and I hope to read more of them in the future too.

Ah! The second book in the 'Ronaldo: The Flying Reindeer' series is nothing short of charming. We are introduced to one more character, the wolf cub Ernie, adding to another dose of fun to an already remarkable set of characters. An evil side of me was actually hoping that Ernie won't find her pack so that we could see a bit more of her in the coming stories. But I am glad at the way story unfolded and I really really hope she will be a permanent part of the series. Such cuteness could never be overlooked.
Reading this has taken me back to my Harry Potter days where the characters grow with each story and the plot thickens along with it. Our Ronaldo is growing too, now engaged in risky adventures and faced with more complex choices. And the setting and the pictures are absolutely gorgeous, making me wish for Christmas again. But this is a story for all seasons and can even be read as a standalone.
I will suggest this as a perfect reading choice for children up to 10 or 12 years depending on their reading preferences. I doubt anyone can resist such an adventurous story set in a sparkling winter land.

I was given the opportunity to read this children’s book a few months ago, and my one regret is that I didn’t get a chance to read it sooner. From the writing to the illustrations, author Maxine Sylvester has penned a delightful tale.

Ronaldo aka Ronny is the reindeer we don’t hear about in Christmas stories. While all of Santa’s reindeer are mentioned, even Rudolph, Ronny is the star of this story. And he totally deserves that honor.

RONALDO: THE PHANTOM CARROT SNATCHER is a story with so many wonderful messages for young readers. Really, for readers of all ages. Lessons in friendship, diversity, and good sportsmenship are all handled in such a way, that readers will enjoy learning life lessons.

Of course, I wouldn’t have agreed to read RTPCS if it didn’t have a mystery element. There were actually a couple. Missing carrots, and a lost “child”. Both were handled quickly as to keep the younger readers attention.

If you’re looking for a book for your in the four to ten year old range (depending on rather you’re reading it to the child, or they will be reading it), you can’t go wrong with RONALDO: THE PHANTOM CARROT SNATCHER.

This was one of those books that I needed to read at the right time. I was having a crap day, and this book was so incredibly heartwarming and fun to read.

Ronny and Rudi are both reindeers that are pupils at The Reindeer Flying Academy. Ronny is the fastest reindeer of his class, and he’s so close to clenching the golden snowflake trophy. After every flying test, Ronny and Rudi treat themselves to glasses of piping hot chocolate and fresh carrot sticks. The only problem? Ronny’s carrot sticks keep disappearing.

Ronny discovers that his carrot sticks are being consumed a lost wolf pup named Ernie. It’s so heartbreaking to hear that Ernie has been separated from her pack. Even though Ronny and all reindeers are frightened of wolves (because they gobble up reindeer) he feels terrible for attempting abandon Ernie. He decides to team up with his best friend Rudi to reunite Ernie with her pack.

I absolutely loved watching the new friendship that developed between Ernie and the boys. The boys were clearly afraid of Ernie because of what they had heard about her kind, but they gave her a chance anyways and refused to leave her behind. There’s also a really wonderful scene where Ernie is able to repay their kindness by defending the boys against a bully and reinforcing that friends stick together no matter what.

The author did an incredible job with the illustrations. The cover is stunning and immediately makes me nostalgic for sledding with hot chocolate afterwards. There are also illustrations sprinkled throughout the book, and each one of them is really well done. Such amazing talent.

Overall, this is an incredible book for children and the perfect gift for the holiday season. I think kids would really love the friendships, adventure, the magical flying, and of course, all of the hot chocolate.

Thank you to the author for providing this book for an honest review. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.

Ronaldo is a young reindeer with the best friend ever, Rudi (aka Rudolph). He is in flying school and is on track to get the fastest record. But first, there is a mystery to solve. Someone has been stealing his carrots and he and Rudi have a plan to find out who that person (err, animal) is.

This book was great fun. I enjoyed the antics of Ronaldo, Rudi, and their new wolf friend, Ernie. The theme and the tone of the book are perfect for middle-grade readers. I particularly loved that it shows that kindness, loyalty, and friendship gets you ahead in the end. Just because Ernie is different, it doesn't mean that they can't be friends and take care of each other. A wonderful lesson for the whole world to embrace.

In this heart-warming read, the author reflects upon the beauty of a loving family express well through the behavior of Ronaldo's parents. Throughout the story, you could see a row of emotions on the account of Ronaldo's secret been on the verge of getting expose. You could feel the sharp intensity which was very effective. The cover illustration is very attractive. Suitable for an audience between the ages of 6-to-10, parents too can enjoy a cozy evening with their kids.

To support the kids' imagination, Maxine used humor in a captivating way to design, black and white, illustrations that describe her characters and their behavior. The characters are assuredly a credit to this story. The storyline is very simple and easy to understand that I'm sure the kids would genuinely, enjoy reading.

This story reflects upon the value of friendship, and how sacrifices may turn out to be worth, at the end. It also taught a valuable lesson: if you do good, you get good in return. Maxine hinted on the importance of "acting decisive" in situations, how to be smart in handling bullies, and importantly, never to cheat. There was the matter about table manners through which parents may show their concern. There were no grammatical or spelling errors, hinting a standard quality. As a smooth and fast-pace read, I can honestly say that one will never regret for picking up this book.

"Good friends make happy times brighter"

Ronaldo : The phantom carrot snatcher is a gorgeous read with adorable illustrations and a story line perfect for adults and kids.

Ronaldo is a reindeer and a record holding flying cadet in his school. He lives in the village Baresford with his parents. The reindeers have a long time rivalry with the wolves and the reindeers always stay away from the wolves. With Ronaldo's ambition to win the golden snowflake and training , life takes unexpected turns .

The characters have their own flaws and perfection. Each and every character in this book is layered deep.

The pace is steady and fast , illustrations are gorgeous.

The storyline is told from third person perspective which is amazing to get a view on the story.

I loved how the ending was aligned and it was the best.

This is a fun and fulfilling read for everyone .

Thanks Maxine, for offering me a review copy of this hot chocolate adorableness.

This is such a cute book I fell in love with it.

The story has so many lovely hidden messages for young readers to discover. It subtly teaches about friendship and diversity to name just a couple.

I really liked the friendships that grew in this book between the characters.

This book is perfect for readers of any age, but think it would be perfect for 8 to 12 year olds. I will be looking into purchasing a few copies for a few nieces and nephews during Christmas. They would make perfect stocking fillers.

I also loved the illustrations throughout the book. They are absolutely stunning. And the front cover . I fell in love with it as soon as I saw the attachment in my inbox.

Overall, a fab book for children and adults everywhere.

Highly recommend.

I would like to thank Maxine Sylvester for sending me a review copy of this wonderful book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

I couldn't resist when I got the opportunity to review this book, it sounded absolutely adorable and while it was totally out of season (it is summer here) I still wanted to read it. Plus, it would provide some coolness in this summer warmth (though it is a bit cooler here unlike last week, phew).

This was quite fun, it is about a small reindeer called Ronaldo who is fabulous at flying and takes tons of pleasure from doing it. He tries to be the very best. I instantly liked the little guy, especially after he takes in a very lone wolf cub named Ernie. Sure, he wasn't always happy with her presence (it definitely didn't help that the cub didn't understand to maybe stay hidden/quiet), but he tries his best to help her out and make sure she is warm and snug. Of course, not only that but also helping her out finding her family, because she is desperate to find them.

I had expected a bit more given the title, I thought this whole book would be about figuring out who was stealing all the carrots, but that one was solved superduper early on. And while the "criminal" is still around, there were no more stolen carrots or mysterious going-ons. A bit of a shame.

I loved the names of the other reindeers, they have the fairly standard reindeer names we are so used to seeing. Rudolph, Dasher, Prancer, Cupid, etc.. I also loved that despite them not getting too much time in the spotlight they still all had personalities. Now this may sound weird, but I have read plenty of books with background characters that just get a name, some basic stuff, but other than that they are just that, background characters. This one went a step further. There is even a baddie amongst the characters, a big bully. But don't worry, he will get his comeuppance. Teehee.

It was fun to see Rudi (Rudolph) and Ronaldo together, they truly are the best of friends. I had a laugh at how Ronaldo was often shaking his head at his best bud's fashion sense (then again I do agree, it is pretty terrible).

It was great how Ronaldo wasn't sure about losing, or at least sabotaging his own awesome track records with flying, decided to go for the right thing eventually.

Can I just say I found it hilarious that Ernie is cold/wears clothes, but the other wolves are just walking around naked (as I would call it given that the reindeers also wear clothes).

Of course, there is plenty more about this book. Did I mention all the carrots? Really, so many carrots. Seeing the friendship between Rudi, Ronaldo, and Ernie growing and them getting better friends with each page was delightful, the flying training was a delight and the race at the end superexciting, I loved Ronaldo's parents and how supportive they were and cheering for him at any moment, the illustrations are tons of fun and make the book even more fun to read, and the cover is also fab! I am sure kids will love this one.

All in all, I had fun reading this one and I would definitely like to read the other books in the series one day.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I actually almost turned down reading this book when I realized it was the second book in a series but I asked the author about it and she said it could be read as a standalone and that the first book was basically just an introduction to Ronaldo and his friends. All of that to say that I don't feel like I missed anything by not reading the first book.

I am not the target demographic for this book but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was adorable and I love how it mildly touches on bullying and implies that it's not ok to bully. A lot of books will have bullying in them and there won't be an repercussions so I loved that it's made perfectly clear that it's not ok.

This includes pictures which I thought were so cute. This was a really quick read. I found myself flying through it and finishing it in one sitting. I highly recommend this for kids and adults.

I love this series, althought it is set for kids, as an adult I still really enjoyed catching up with Ronny and his friends in this book, the second in the series!

The story is great in this one, it is well developed and I loved the characters - we get to meet Ernie in this one and I though she was just lovely! The book has some lovely images too which really help add to the story. There are a couple of plots in this one so plenty to keep you engaged and entertained and children will love it!

Whilst this book is the second in the series it is fine to read as a stand alone. It is also a book that can be read at anytime of the year too.

5 stars from me for this one, a well written and very enjoyable story - very highly recommended!!

“Good friends, make happy times brighter.”

This is a fantastic story following a reign deer by the name of Ronaldo and his unlikely friendship with a wolf. As the story goes along it greatly represents a fantastic friendship which did not disappoint, the way it was portrayed by the author was absolutely perfect and heart warming.

Also again same as the first book, this one had me smiling the whole time and laughing at parts as well. The cuteness of the story as a whole and the representation of the fun loving characters was just amazing.

A great children’s story through and through especially with the added bonus of the gorgeous illustrations.

This story same as the first deserves a 5 star rating in more ways then just one! :)

Fantastic job Maxine!

If you're not yet a fan of Ronaldo you should be. Children of all ages will enjoy the continuing adventures of Ronaldo the reindeer in this charming children's series. In this second story Ronaldo and his friend Rudi continue their education at The Reindeer Flying Academy where they are second year students. Doing all of that flying and maneuvering means they need lots of carrots to keep up their stamina. But it seems someone has stolen their stash of carrots from Ronaldo's backpack. Was it a group of bullies or an unknown enemy?

An endearing story full of life lessons and humor that is perfect to share with young readers. Charming characters that will make you laugh and gasp in awe carry the storry through trials and tribulations. Highly recommended.

What an amazingly cute and heartfelt story! First and foremost, I was really impressed with this book because the author not only wrote a great story, but she also illustrated adorable pictures!

The writing style and illustrations are wonderful for children. They are inviting, easy to follow, and logically sequenced. All of the illustrations are drawn with enough detail to appropriately show each character’s expressions. Also, I love how the author chose to show diversity among the reindeer. This makes the tale very relatable and realistic. I found the plot structure to be flawless. There was good background building, a clear problem, climax and resolution. There was humor, acts of kindness, and overall a feel-good book for both children and adults with a great and clear message.

The themes here were perfectly executed. Friendship is such a strong one, which is clearly shown through the bond Ronaldo and Rudi share with one another. Along with their strong bond, they accepted someone who is very different from them. Even the bullying aspect was just enough to show the actions made were bullying, but was not too extreme to be off-putting for young children. I loved how the consequence to the bullying was spot on.

Overall, it was such a joy and honor to read Ronaldo: The Phantom Carrot Snatcher. I highly recommend this to both children and adults who enjoy sweet books about friendship.

Happy, silly and endearing
Author and illustrator Maxine Sylvester has created an endearing character in Ronaldo - a top flying cadet at the prestigious Reindeer Flying Academy - who loves carrots dipped in hot chocolate. While he trains to win the coveted Golden Snowflake Medal for even more spectacular aviation skills, Renaldo discovers his beloved carrots have been stolen from his backpack by a mysterious thief - for the sixth time!
As Ronaldo tries to find the culprit the story unfolds into a humorous buddy story, a demonstration of personal sacrifice, and of a unique friendship with a lost wolf cub, when it’s not the popular - or prudent - thing to do.
The book has a happy, silly, slapstick feel to it that made me laugh out loud a few times. There are the familiar reindeer names: Rudi (short for Rudolph), Vixen, Blitzen, Comet, and Dasher with their own unique personalities and place in the scheme of things. The interior illustrations are black and white but no less adorable and effective than the bright cover art.
As adults reading kids books we have to suspend our disbelief - and our adulthood - and remember how much we treasured reading fanciful stories about anthropomorphic animals. (I still do!). The message of the book is that “Good friends make happy times brighter.” Well, good books make happy reading better. This is one good book.

This is a charming children's book that will entertain your little ones and tickle their funny bones. Reindeer Ronaldo is obsessed with becoming the fastest cadet at his flying academy but after befriending a lost baby wolf he starts to view the world from a different perspective. Friendship and love take soon take greater priority as Ronaldo and his best pal Rudi hatch a plan to return baby wolf Ernie to her pack. But to complete their mission, they must conquer their fears and enter the Forrest Of Doom, otherwise known as the reindeer graveyard. Maxine Sylvester's superb writing makes this an entertaining read but it was a bit too long, and didn't have enough pictures, to hold the attention of my four-year-old daughter. I will definitely be reading it to her again when she's 6 or 7, the perfect age for Ronaldo's adventures. Well worth checking out if you have kids between 6 and 10

Thank You to Maxine Sylvester for providing me with a copy of this book to review - All opinions are my own.

While Ronaldo and his best friend Rudi prepare for their flying speed test, they notice that someone has been stealing all of their carrots (Gasp 😱)! Rudi has labeled the thief as The Phantom Carrot Snatcher! Do they ever find out who the thief is? And how do they perform on their speed test? This is one adventure you don't want to miss!

I really enjoyed book number 2 in the Ronaldo series. There were more laugh out loud moments and I just adore the illustrations. This book was really fun to read and I also loved all of the goofy characters. . A tale about friendships, sacrifices, and bravery this is a story for the whole family to enjoy.

More adventures abound with Ronaldo and Rudi in this second installment of the Flying Reindeer Academy. Together, they learn to overcome a difficult challenge. While I have not yet read the third book in the series, this one is so far my favorite.

Maxine Sylvester tells a great tale that is geared toward children. The characters are well developed, and the language and story line is perfect for children of any age to enjoy. I'm looking forward to reading the third book in this series.

Lovely children's book about Ronaldos tale of finding the Phantom carrot snatcher.
Beautiful illustrations
My 4 year old son found the tinkle and farting parts hilarious as well as others
A sweet story about putting others first
This is more suited to several bed time stories than just one as took me over an hour to read but me and my son both enjoyed it very much
Recommend to anyone with children or even just someone looking for an uplifting short tale.
Another fantastic book from Maxine Sylvester, well done :) xx

I enjoyed this new twist on a classic set of Christmas characters! Ronaldo discovers who his phantom carrot snatcher is and then must determine how far he will go for friendship. Geared for reading at ages six to ten, this would make a wonderful bedtime story for younger children to have read to them over the course of a few weeks. Maxine Sylvester is one very talented woman. Not only has she written a fantastic and funny children's book but the illustrations compliment the story perfectly.

The story moves along quickly with Ronaldo finding a friend in Rudi and I even found my self having a little chuckle along the way.
