A few months before Vincent and friends become embroiled in the series of deaths from weakness that send shockwaves through society. Freddie, a game planner who hates being tied down by women, meets a new employee who calls herself Catherine, falling madly in love for the first time. At the same time, however, inexplicable incidents begin occurring around him, and he is tormented by nightmares each night in which he frantically climbs walls without end... When the past, betrayals and women converge, what answer awaits him at the end of the labyrinth of reality and dreams?
it's a prequel but do not read it before you play the game as the ending of the book spoils the whole game. Uh, other than that this story is similar to Vincent's story in the game accept the different main character. Stop me if you hear this before, A guy currently in a stable and somewhat boring relationship and in a dead end job. Tends to go to the bar to hang out with some people, eventually meets a very young and attractive woman, falls head over heels for her. Has to traverse the nightmares he is put in. Slowly, realize things are getting strange and out of hand with the increase of mysterious death... Those who have played the game know the point I'm making. However, the story stands on it's own especially since the main character seems very jaded towards women and doesn't seem to feel much guilt until toward the end. I can sum this up easily: If you are a fan of the game, you will find this a nice read. If you are new to the series I suggest playing the game or at the very least read the novelization of the game first if you don't have access to a game console(hard to believe in 2019 but ok). Otherwise, it killed some time.
