At twenty-three, Kel is buff but awkward. He hates going to clubs but loves to play online games. His current boyfriend Jimmy would rather go out and dance the night away, and often makes fun of Kel for wanting to stay home. After a bad fight, Kel catches Jimmy cheating on him and they break up. Later, Kel tries to ignite a spark with a local hunk named Gunnar, but their first kiss ends in disaster and the rest of their date is even worse.
Heartbroken and alone, Kel retreats to the online 3D game world of New Life, a virtual earth where people can meet others with similar interests ... including naughty ones. At one of his favorite fantasy clubs, Kel becomes intensely involved with Darius, a black knight with a penchant for dominance. Their first meetup is slightly kinky online fun, and soon they realize they have more in common than they first thought.
When Darius wants to move things to the next level, Kel isn't so sure. Is he ready to make their online relationship reality?

This short story is a cute, quick read that appealed to my nerdy little heart. Kel has some confidence issues, and even though he knows he looks great, he’s let Jimmy get into his head about his personality. I liked watching Kel find his own strength as the story progressed, and I thought that his ups and downs read really naturally. He’s an endearing and engaging character and I enjoyed him.
Darius’s true identity wasn’t a surprise, but it was exactly how I wanted it to go. There’s a definite chemistry there, which I liked. But I did feel like things were a bit rushed, and I wish I got to see more interactions between them. I wanted more conversations to really be grounded in their budding relationship. I like that the author left it at an HFN, because anything more wouldn’t have been believable.
So it’s a nice little read. I could have used more development in the story, and would have liked to see more between the MCs, but on the whole, it was a nicely done short with lovable nerd heroes.
Staying home or going out – that is the question. An active social life can be defined in many different ways, but it usually involves contact with “real people” in the “real world”. Guys like Kel, who like to stay home and/or enjoy online encounters in various games, are not always respected for their choices. In this story, Kel has to deal with an extroverted “boyfriend” – and I use that term loosely since neither of them seems very committed – who decides to be unfaithful, Kel’s desire to meet someone more accepting, and his own lack of accepting who he is and admitting that is the person he wants to present to the outside world.
This was a sweet story about a young guy in a crappy relationship. When that relationship ends after Kel catches his boyfriend cheating on him, his self esteem is rather low. He meets a cute guy at the supermarket, and they hit it off, but Darius isn’t interested in being a rebound and doesn’t think Kel is quite over Jimmy, so he walks away.
In the meantime, Kel retreats into his gaming world, something Jimmy always gave him crap about, but where Kel can be himself and explore things he wouldn’t otherwise be confident enough to ask for in real life. He starts falling for one of his opposing characters, and they decide to meet in public. But that doesn’t go quite as planned when the character doesn’t show up.
This was short, but sweet, and it was a nice afternoon delight. I enjoyed seeing Kel find what he was looking for after all and definitely someone more perfect for him who would treat him right. This was my first book by Mr. War, and I am definitely looking forward to reading something a bit more involved from him in the future. I liked the writing style and tone and read this in one sitting. I recommend putting this author on your radar if you haven’t done so already.
2.5 I've had this one on my to buy list for a long time and finally got it. First off, I was disappointed to see $3 for 29 pages but hoped it would be worth it. Unfortunately, for me it just missed.
Reaching Nerdvana is a very short, steamy read that made me laugh. It is only around 39 pages long, so I managed to read it in around 20 minutes.
Kel is what some people would class as a nerd. He loves computers, hes an introvert, he loves graphic tees, he wears glasses and is much more of a homebody than a partier. Unfortunately, these are the things his partner Jimmy dislikes about him. After an argument between the two, Jimmy storms off and being the nice guy that Kel is he goes to apologies only find out his boyfriend likes a bit of action on the side. Enter Gunnar. Although things don't go to plan with him either.
Really liked this one. Loved the way it was written, so much detail, humour and feeling in such a short amount of pages. Loved Kel's character, what an absolute sweetheart, he's so relatable. I'm sure everyone can see a bit of themselves somewhere in his character and I loved to see him find someone much more suited to himself than that jerk Jimmy.
Recommended for a quick little afternoon read. Feel good and steamy.
I must confess to not having high hopes for this, based on the blurb. It is well documented that sci-fi/comics/computer games tropes are areas I give a wide berth to but for some reason, I decided to give this one a go and I hope you're sitting down for this because *shock horror* I really enjoyed it.
Kel is the epitome of all things geek except with the body of a Greek god. He loves staying in, role-play sites with dragons and goblins and is comfiest in his t-shirts with super heroes on. His boyfriend Jimmy couldn't be more opposite and how they've lasted this long is a miracle. Kel could do so much better but Jimmy is a smooth talker and always uses sex to get his own way. When Kel chases after Jimmy after their latest argument he not only discovers a horrible truth about Jimmy but encounters Gunnar and the two make a connection. The pair may have way more in common than they could possibly have imagined.
I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time I was reading this (except for the parts involving Jimmy!). This is such a fun read and I'm actually sad it was over so quickly. It's a short story but is crammed full of content, it's tongue in cheek and innuendo-filled and Kel and Gunnar make a perfect couple - they-re lovely. Ok, so there were some bits that were daft but who doesn't love a guy in a cloak wearing a jock strap with glittery wizard staffs on it?! This made me laugh, grin like an idiot and want to punch Jimmy - I definitely recommend it.
