Rivers End Romance

Merry: A Touch of Magic

Rate this book
When a Christmassy witch meets a gorgeous grinch, sparks fly... literally!

Merry Tremayne loves Christmas in Rivers End. Festivals, food, and family make the holiday magical — which is fantastic, as long as she’s not the one making the magic. The last time she used her Gift to improve someone’s Christmas spirit, it ended in catastrophe. So when she accidentally casts a spell on a grumpy, gorgeous Scrooge, she thinks she’s ruined everything. That is, until he kisses her with enough heat to melt a snowman.

For Dillon Clarke, nothing good has ever come from Christmas. But things start looking up when he meets perky, sexy Merry, who’s determined to put the tinsel on his tree and the jingle in his... bells.

Together, they might just be able to conquer their fears and begin some new Christmas traditions of their own.

Hey neighbour! I’m a lifelong fan of stories where everyone gets their happily-ever-after and have been a voracious reader of everything romance since I was tall enough to reach my mom’s bookshelf. I write small town romance with plenty of heart, humour and a dash of heat. Sometimes with a dash of magic, mystery or suspense.

C. J. Hunt has written a series of books set in Rivers End. Although there are different names for each series, the characters are shared throughout the stories. Most of the characters do not share today's typical stupid formula of not communicating when there's trouble or imagined trouble; instead are likable and realistic. All the books are well written, fast paced, interesting and have humor. Some of the books are clean; some have cursing or vulgar language; and/ have sex. Personally, I don't think the sex and vulgar language actually fit in with the sweetness and love that these romances share. I think the sexual tension is more important than what technique so-and-so used; plus written sex is boring. These are quickly read books and are perfect for a couple hours of relaxation.

The MacAllisters Series:
Silver Bells #1 - Heartwarming and fun, and a magical Christmas time frame. A well written, funny, interesting small town romance. There's plenty of sexual tension, but the story is clean and fast paced. The characters are interesting, realistic and didn't do stupid dialog or actions. This should be an entertaining small town series. 4*

Tipsy #2 - Picks up the same week as Silver Bells ends, on New Year's eve. Well written and interesting with humor and set at a fast pace, along with likable characters. I didn't care that there was a lack of communication instead of a different form of creating a problem between the main characters. I didn't care for the sex and bad language and think clean works better for this story. That aside I like the story and with the addition of Oona, how The MacAllisters is connected to A Touch of Magic. 4*

Reindeer Games #3 - This cover is too cute. This book starts on Christmas day, where Silver Bells ended. Well written and interesting with the truth about a bad brother from another book. The pace is fast and the characters are believable and there's a dark side to some of them. I didn't care for the vulgar language, but the storylines are good. 4*

Wedding Bells #4 - This book picks up in May and adds to the story of the main characters from Silver Bells. Well written, likable characters and a fast pace make this a quick read. There's a little bit of suspense concerning one character, but it adds to the other storylines. I didn't care for the vulgar language; find it out of place. 4*

The Witches of River Bend Series:
Merry #1 - We're still in Rivers End, but now there's a touch of magic in this story. This is a well written, funny and heartwarming romance set in a small town. The characters were interesting and had realistic dialog. The cousins are a lot of fun and give good gifts. I didn't care for the infrequent vulgar language, that started with mild cussing; it felt out of place in this type of story. Same with the explicit sex; it was awkward and boring, as is all written sex to me, boorrring. Sexual tension is so much more interesting. I did enjoy the magical potion and think it was a good mix of romance with witches. Since this is my third book by this author and first of the "touch of magic", I hope there's more. 4*

Oona #2 - Another well written romance concerning a witch, with a bakery, and an architect. Interesting and fast pace with likable characters, and lots of happenings. 4*

Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed the humor and playfulness of it. My only problem with the book is that I kept waiting for the zombie outbreak to show up, like it does in the books I normally read. :)

I have to admit this was a different story in Rivers End from CJ Hunt in the sence that it had the same voice but it was spicier than the previous ones I've read. I have to say I really enjoy this sexy side a little more, but that's just my preference.

Merry is a witch trying to hide her magic because she doesn't want to influence people. The problem with Merry is not that her magic is broken but the fact that she feels so much when she does a spell than things can get out of control. She has a heart of gold and I love her personality, also the fact that she tries to keep people smiling during the holidays.

Dillon is a Mr. Grinch when he first meet Merry but with a little bit of her magic and mostly her caring personality, he's was just smitten with the cute girl. Life has not been easy for him and the holidays are not his prefered time of the year but he feel compelled to do them, specially when Merry is glue to his side, making him experience things in a new way.

This couple was cute and hot and adorable. Not all at the same time of course but I truly can say it was a blast reading this book.

The writing was good, like I was expecting from CJ Hunt and the fact that the story is not so long, makes it a great quick read for the Holidays.

Such a lovely read with a little of magic in it.
It feels while reading it like smelling hot chocolate and cinnamon.
A lovely fast paced romantic story, how a Christmas lover witch can change a grinchy man to love this happy time of the year.
Merry is such a lovable character, with the mix up of her last spell, she doubts her own feeling with the magic sparkling around but hopefully Christmas magic is there too.
Dylan is a good guy too with alas bad Christmas experiences coming from a broken family killed his mood for this time of the year, but Merry will show him he has the right to hope for more.
I enjoyed my afternoon with all the River ends witches, I can only recommend this story for any one who is looking for a good time filled with smiles and love.
And the steamy scenes are very very soft ;)

I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review. I love how Dillon and Merry meet when he is serving the hot chocolate and Merry called him a Grinch and then he spills the hot chocolate on her and he buys her a sweater that she wears as a dress. Then later they are at a party and her sister witches which are her cousins get her to put a spell on their champagne and then she drinks from it and then Dillon does too and then he kisses her. Later she talks to her cousin who talks her into staying by his side till midnight the next day and so she seduces him into taking her home which doesn't take long for Dillon because he wants her to but she is afraid it's just the spell and not really his feelings. This is a cute story.

A flock of cousins who are sister witches celebrate the Christmas holiday together.

Their visit to a community fair leads to a bit of an accidental magic enhancement.

Did Merry make the holiday and romance brighter for a certain special carpenter / grinch, or did the grinch just get grinchier?

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout.

My opinion, magic makes the season brighter for friends and family, of course with complications and challenges.

If you're looking for a novella that's kinda sweet, and kinda icicle melting and PG, this story might just make you feel warm and cozy.

This is a sweet short holiday romance. Merry with her cousins make witchy mischief for a brighter holiday. But when a neighborly Grinch is caught in the magic, Merry shares her holiday joy as she fears the end result of her spell. I enjoyed the interplay with her cousins, the contrast between the families, and the magic that comes from loving hearts that uplift and bring joy to the whole town. That magic is stronger than any spell or grinchy attitude

Eggnog Hot Chocolate and Love (an audio review)

I am not a fan of Christmas. I have personal reasons, but I may occasionally be overheard referring to it as the silly season. Crass commercialism has done nothing to increase my enjoyment. Do I treasure my time with my family? Absolutely. Could I forgo the rest of it? Yep. Wouldn’t be surprised if people called me Scrooge.

So I related to Dillon Clarke. He was willing to help serve eggnog hot chocolate at the winter festival in Rivers End, but it didn’t mean he had to like it. He could watch Merry Tremayne do a good deed and acknowledge it while maintaining his grumpy façade. When he’s able to give her a drink to make up for his ill humor things take an interesting turn.

Merry’s a witch. She has a small group of close friends who know the truth, but she’s learned to keep her magic to herself. She tried to use her talents once before and it hadn’t turned out well. This time she’s decided to keep her spells to herself. Except she accidentally sets one on Dillon and now she has to stay by his side in case things go sideways. There to rescue the situation, if necessary. And if she gets to spend time with a handsome man? Well, that’s a bonus, right?

This is the story of Super Santa Girl and the Grinch. I think you know which side I was rooting for, but the humor in the story got to me. There was also the touching moment between Dillon and his half-brother that moved me. Sometimes we miss what’s directly in front of us.

There are sexy times, a Christmas tree, and a celebration with family and close friends. In short, everything the holiday is supposed to be about. I enjoyed it and, as always, was glad to spend some time in Rivers End.

Erin Bateman narrates the witch stories for this series and I think she does a commendable job. I enjoy her work very much. There are more friends in the group (or is it a coven?), so I hope there are more stories to come.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is just the sort of book to make your christmas reading complete full of happiness and good cheer. Merry is a witch who vows never to use magic on a persons emotions, when a man gets caught in the middle of a spell there is nothing Merry can do but stick to Dillon until the spell runs it;s course. Not that it is a difficult decision to make when he is as sexy as Dillion and built as well. Emotions run hot for both of them but is it the real thing or just a result of magic. Full of emotion and steamy lovemaking, a quick read for the busiest time of the year.

A quickie Christmas story filled with hope, love and good cheer. Merry and Dillon have a strong attraction but is it just from her magic or is it the real magic of the season? The author does a great job developing strong characters and weaving a short story, packing it full of emotion and love all centering around the holiday season. Loved it !!

Christmas

Merry and her cousin's always do the River Walk Festival together, so when goes to get hit hit chocolate from Adams booth she's surprised at the grumpy guy. Dillon doesn't like holidays much so helping And an is a stretch until he meets Merry. Little does he know she uses a little magic in him later in the evening.

This was a fun read but not for the under 18 readers. I've voluntarily chose to review this and I have given it a 4* rating. This story has a lot of sexual content and is centered around Christmas. There is a bit of fun and games all connected to spells accidentally put on others. If you enjoy these things then you will probably enjoy this sort of short story.
