FULL RTC IN THE MORNING

☀︎ BURNING SKIES ☀︎ Is the third full length post apocalyptic book in (The Last Sanctuary World) series by Kyla Stone. Told in Alternating POV's. This picked up right where the previous book left off.

I think my heart actually stopped a few times in this book, or it picked up an extra beat. The group seem to not be able to catch a break. They survive one attack only to be facing another. The hits keep coming. If it wasn't feral dogs they had to contend with in the previous book now it's hundreds if not thousands of infected rats. One bite from those nasty little buggas and it's game over. It's a race against time to get to the Sanctuary. Amelia is immune to the virus which has killed so many others.

I can't believe how fast I'm racing through this series. It all started with No Safe Haven, even though a standalone it plays a significant part in this series.

Seeing as how I've already jumped into book #4 like a starving fish outta water, I'm pausing only briefly to review book #3.

This thing picks up exactly where the previous entry left off. Our group is once again travelling to rescue the abducted Elise, but their journey is anything but easy, a fact they will come to learn the hard way. If they thought it was rough before, they ain't seen nothing yet. The characters are continually expanded, something Kyla does so well in her stories. I am so frickin' glad Amelia and Gabriel made peace this go around, though it was bugging me how she seemed oblivious to the opportunities she had in the previous book to do this very thing. The only "downside" to growing characters (and I use that word very lightly because it's not really a downside at all) is I get more fearful about who I get attached to because I don't know who I'm going to lose in these books. Kyla may spend good time developing her characters, but that doesn't mean she's shy about taking them away. I respect that. But also....*cringe*

This was an intense and highly stressful entry and I loved it. It's also the first one to receive a 5-star rating for not only solving my main complaint in the previous book (I really ought to be a bit more patient about things, eh?), but upping up the stakes in ways I didn't see coming. I was pleasantly surprised how different the threats were this time around, and not just of a human sort. I particularly loved the animal threat (which I won't spoil what kinds of animals they are) Now personally, in real life, I LOVE these animals. But man, they legit seem just so damn terrifying in this book. I was stressed, shocked, squeamish, and sad. As per usual with Kyla's books, she keeps the momentum strong and knows how snag my attention. In this case, she snagged it and made the thing permanent.

Honestly, the only problem I had with this book was how the Pyros (which are essentially this book's human villains) discovered a crucial fact from our main group. It's a pretty BIG thing, but it also shouldn't have been possible to figure out, unless I somehow missed it. I couldn't wrap my head around it no matter how much I tried, and I honestly feel like Kyla might have missed tying up that particular loose end. At any rate, given that this was my only complaint, it had no power to taint my appreciation of the book. I had a hell of a lot of fun this go around, despite having to accept certain character fates (ugh dammit). It of course ends on a bit of a cliffhanger to lull you into the next book of the series, which is fine, because if that's one thing Kyla has pulled off, it's not leaving me hanging.

Now if you'll excuse me. I have places to be and book #4's to read...

Burning Skies continues the saga of Willow, Micah, Amelia, and the rest of their group trying to get somewhere safe, get Amelia's mom back, and trying to save the country with a cure for the hydra virus. They even have internal battles. I loved how each of the characters developed into a family although dysfunctional, except one. They must battle weather and nature also which is bound to happen given the circumstances of the country in the book. The developments that occur in this book are very obvious, yet often overlooked, things that would happen with collapse of the country. Willow, Celeste, and Amelia mature so much in this book. Relationships mature and feelings grow which makes sense given how close they are in proximity and how much they have to rely on each other. Even though they are getting closer to their goal position they are finding that they are not really any closer to being safer. There are some very sad and reality reminding scenes that broke my heart but again are very realistic as not all of the good guys can live forever. Kyla is on fire with this series. I can't wait to see what happens next. I am voluntarily leaving this review after reading a complimentary copy of the book.

I received a free ARC from Kyla Stone and was not in any way compensated for my honest review.

HOLY AMAZING..!
I keep waiting for this series to have a bad moment, where I decide it's not as perfect as it is. IN 3 BOOKS, It hasn't happened!!! Kyla is moving up to the top of my favorite authors list. This series has had everything I've wanted in a storyline. Burning Skies is no exception.
Burning Skies was action packed. From escaping an infectious rat horde to battling a gang of pyromaniacs. I love that there is still a touch of romanticism without it getting in the way of the "horrors" of this oncoming apocalypse. The romance and humor does NOT overshadow the doom, it finds its place where it needs to be and doesn't seem ridiculous. Not to mention the characters being so self aware and having such well done growth from book 1 to book 3.
This series is FANTASTIC. I will be recommending it to everyone I know.
I will now be impatiently awaiting the final book!

Another fabulous book by this author! Burning skies is an absolute must read!

You fall in love with Gabriel and Micha Amelia willow Benji and finn! You even love Celeste after a while but horne got what he deserved

There’s always a treat or in a group he tried to bargain their lives for his and ultimately got justice against his being a traitor.

Everyone was getting and dying from the hydra virus even the animals were infected. And to try to live they had to battle hundreds of rabid rats that were absolutely huge and attacking in the hundreds at a time. One bite could infect you and cause you to die.

Everywhere you looked they were dead bodies this whole world was coming to an end or was it??

This is a must read series!

Another gripping contribution to the series!!!!

It should be noted that you need to read the two previous books in the series:
Rising Storm, Book One, The Last Sanctuary, and Falling Stars, Book Two, The Last Sanctuary.

You will meet and love the characters, and follow along their journey. You won't be disappointed.

Kyla Stone pulled me back into this 3rd book in the Last Sanctuary world effortlessly!!!! The writing is believable and realistic. Her words made me want to be a part of their little group.

I savoured the words and the time I spent with Amelia, Gabriel, Willow, Micah, and Silas, and the rest of the group!!! I have come to cherish the characters in this captivating story.

I worried this was the last book and I would miss the characters. Turns out there will be a FOURTH book!!!!!!

I recommend this series!!

Can't wait for the next book!

Kyla Stone does it again! Gritty and believable characters and an exciting storyline, it is no wonder I read this book so quickly. Whilst it is possible to read Burning Skies as a stand alone, I would highly recommend reading the first two books of The Last Sanctuary Series to fully immerse yourself into the cast of diverse characters. This is the next instalment of a group of disparate survivors from the Grand Voyager ship disaster (Book 1), who fight to survive a post apocalyptic world set in the future US. Gangs fight to gain control in the ruined cities and depleted countryside, murdering anyone who gets in their way and the group are constantly under attack. Also, there is always the threat of contracting the deadly Hydra virus which has wiped out most of humanity. Very exciting read. This writer is one to watch.

(third book out of five)

I read the omnibus edition (The Last Sanctuary Omnibus #1-5: The Complete Post-Apocalyptic Survival Series) and it starts really well with this opening book the opens the way to... the end of the world maybe!
The story and the setting is well written and the characters are quite good.
It was sometimes just a bit too much on the young side of the young-adult genre and it didn't go very far in describing the world descending into chaos (I was expecting more).
That said it's a good series but not a great one.
I enjoyed reading it at first but slowly my interest dimmed.

I would say this is the novel within the Last Sanctuary series where the action actually starts to happen. Stone's group of survivors are making their way through Atlanta after the Hydra Virus pandemic has crushed the world. Battling a gang group known as the Pyros as well as the infected animals creates an almost jumpy story that makes your heart race as they find their way around the city.

In this novel, you'll see more character development in Silas, Willow, Horn, Celeste and Gabriel. All off these characters have vital impact on the story line. We begin to see our survivors dwindle, face extreme losses, heart aches and once again struggle with their morals in this new world.

This was an amazing book that put the reader right in the middle of this apocalyptic world! The characters were believable and the story line’s fast pace kept the reader on the edge of the seat! This book has it all – frightening gangs, violence, a deadly virus! It’s just what you would expect to find in an exciting futuristic nightmare world! Don’t let it get away – buy your copy and jump into an awesome read!

Incredible characterization

This author has managed to put so much emotion in her characters that I feel like I know them well. I can “see” each person as if I were watching a video. (These books are so good, exciting, thrilling, they would make a great movie!) I’ve read the phrase “well drawn characters “ but she has captured every nuance of each of them. Well done Kyla Stone!!

Very entertaining

After being saved from a pack of sick wild dogs they are taken to a self sustaining farming commune. But betrayal is just around the corner. Luckily they are able to fight their way out but Elise has been kidnapped. Now they must travel through Atlanta in hopes of ambushing the headhunters to release Elise. Again, betrayal dogs them. One of their own turns on them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this instalment of a great series. The characters suit the plot, which has its twists and turns, there's plenty of action alongside thoughts and feelings and nothing is certain - perfect ingredients for a brilliant story.

I particularly like how the characters developed, not changing but maturing and understanding, though not all have realised enough yet.

Well-written with an easy flow and fast-paced.

Highly recommended.

I’m enjoying the pace of the series, things are getting serious now. Let’s hope we don’t lose anymore characters!
Would definitely recommend to those who enjoy post-apocalyptic novels.

Burning Skies, one thing g after another

This was a good read. Sometimes the characters were frustrating as they are meant to be in a good story. The book captures the cruelness of mankind when law one order falls away. But it shows the basic goodness of people I spite of lawlessness.

Best Yet In the Series

I thought book one was good and then book two even better, but book three is the best yet.

Kyla has mastered the art of blending action and drama into a near-future sci-fi setting that is full of life and hope.

What an emotional book~I loved it. It wasn’t enough that I cried at parts reading book 2....Kyla Stone did it again.
There are some shockers, one in particular I found myself re-reading the page in order to check that it really happened. I’m diving into book 4~I cannot get enough of this series!

Kyla Stone is a magician with a pen

This series is by far one of the best series I have read. Kyla brings characters to life that are real and perfectly written in every way. I can’t fault a single paragraph in the entire series. Do yourself a favour and read these books.

Getting better!

Although I wasn't as excited with this series as the Chaos Rising series, at first, but by the second, and now third book in Last Sanctuary that's no longer the case.

Great addition. The action is believable and just frequent enough not to over power the characters. Love this series. I will be starting the next one immediately.👍

Another great book

The plot thickens as the team searches for a way to save Amelia's mother. A book you won't want to put down until the very end.
