Phil Price was born in Sutton Coldfield in 1974. He lived in various places in the UK until his family settled in Rednal, a suburb on the outskirts of Birmingham in 1979. Growing up with an older brother and sister, he always flirted with reading, his home always littered with books. Then in 1997, Phil embarked on a travel expedition that took him from Greece to Thailand, via East and Southern Africa. Sitting in dusty bus stations in Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi with Wilbur Smith and James Herbert accompanying him, his imagination was sparked into life. Since those far-off days, he has never been without a book to read.

Phil started toying with the idea of writing a book in 2009. After writing a few short stories, he caught a whiff of an idea in his head. It started to evolve in 2010 until he had enough to begin his writing journey. Marriage and two children came along, with the story being moved to the back burner for periods of time. However, during those periods of writing inactivity, the story continued to manifest until it just needed one thing. To be written down.

The story was littered with places that had influenced Phil's life. From the Lickey Hills in Birmingham to the Amatola Mountains in South Africa, with other many other locations, in-between and far beyond.

The book was finished sometime in 2014, left on his computer until a chance conversation with an author friend made Phil take the bold step to publish his story, Unknown.

From there, Phil’s love for the first book spurred him on, creating The Forsaken Series. A vampire/paranormal/horror saga, set in our world, and others too. His love of horror and all things supernatural, inspired by authors such as King, Herbert and others, helped create the epic series.

After venturing into science fiction with his fourth title, Zoo, he turned to thrillers, with Ashes of Innocence being published in 2020 and His Dark Shadow expected early 2021 and The Retreat in 2023. Returning to his dark roots, Nobody's Son was released in 2025.

Aside from his writing, Phil lives on the edge of a small town in Worcestershire, UK. A wife and two sons keep Phil happily occupied as he steers his way through life, playing the husband, dad, and world creator in equal measure.

I just want to say that this author is now a published author with Zombie Cupcake Press. His revised book is out and ready for sale! Please give him your support by checking his book out on Amazon! He's an awesome person and an amazing author creating a world that will blow you away!

There's nothing better than a good suspense book. I picked this book up and I was hooked on the first page. The writer guides you through the story with ease. I love the fact that this author knew how to describe something without the over usage of adjectives. Great character development, they were rich with flavor. The plot was thick and well written. I love the story and I think this author is on his way to being a top author! Great story, great characters and fantastic story to spend your day with.

Five years in the making. It's a lifetime of memories and imagination rolled into one. Many people who know me will find a part of me in the book. It was the best experience putting my thoughts into a story, that evolved into Unknown.

Unknown was republished on 4th April 2017 by Zombie Cupcake Press.

Creepy to the bone, this book really sends chills down the spine! I love horror books!. I don't have the time to read them nearly as often as I'd like either, so when I do get to indulge myself with a good scare, let-downs are really kind of like the end of the world... luckily that wasn't the case here!!
Unknown by Phil Price did have a bit of a rocky start for me, as I struggled to keep up with all the short stories lines it offered right out the gate. It kind of bounced around, and a couple of times I found myself scratching my chin. However, the writing style provided for each disappearing character was mesmerizing, and the picture drawn for them was very vivid, horrid, and memorable. Once Phil told the tale of several characters disappearances, it all pulls together. I'm glad I kept reading because once it picked up, it REALLY picked up!
The vampires in this book aren't a teen throb, or even a commonly told bloodsuker with uncontrolable impuses... they're ohhhhhh so much more. Creepy creepy creepy!! If you want to have nightmares about an incomprehensible dark side, that will leave your sheets soaked in sweat then look no further than this book!!
I very much enjoyed Phil's way of writing, it's extremely vivid and outside of the box. I'm one of those American-English writers who loves to read British writing, as the phrases used are different than what I'm used to on a regular day to day basis. The mix up is a fun experience for me, so finding a great story line in the horror genre is kind of like a diamond in the rough! I'm so glad to have found this author and I'll absolutely be enjoying more of his work very very soon!

This author has such a way with words that this book is beautifully written. It is something different than anything I have read that is on the market to this day. It will suck in you from the first page and keep you on your toes throughout the entire book. The characters, storyline, plots, everything about this book is great. For a debut novel, you cant get any better than this. Everything is so beautifully detailed, you will be able to see everything play out as you go along. This book is a great addition to the world of paranormal/fantasy/horror and deserves to be noticed. With the twist and turns this book takes you will continue to wonder/guess throughout the entire book and even then you are going to continue to wonder what is going to happen. The villians of this story were well written and executed beautifully. This is a must read for anyone who loves horror/fantasy/paranormal. You will not be disappointed and I cant wait to see what this author has in store next.

If I had to sum up Unknown in just one word, I would say "different". Now, that's not different bad, I mean different good. Phil Price puts a new spin on vampires, throwing multiple world/dimensions in the mix.

The story starts as far back as 1674 and follows through time and dimensions, slowly collecting characters. At first it feels like a collection of short stories with mysterious endings, but you soon find that all of these stories will come together to create THE STORY. Price is a wiz at world building and emerges the reader into the eeriness of the scene.

As for the Genre, I took it from Amazon, but I don't particularly agree. If I were to classify Unknown, I would say, thriller/suspense/sci-fi/paranormal, not horror. It wasn't really scary- creepy at times, but not scary. I'm not particularly sure that I agree with YA either. Regardless of the choice of category, this is a good solid read and I enjoyed having the opportunity to go little outside of my comfort zone with this one.

This story never drew me in. There are several stories lines taking place with some connection but it takes about 150 pages to get there. From that point the story meanderers around with a great deal of useless info and detail. I scanned most of the book and feel I did not missed much.

Jake had lost everything the day his wife and child were taken from him. He fought his grief, surrendering his badge for a private license. As a police officer he felt powerless, he apprehended villains only for them to be turned loose and commit another crime. At least as a PI he could choose his work. Or he could, until a favour for his brother-in-law drags him into an investigation out of this world, literally. A series of random and unlikely connections lead Jake to discover the world is not as black and white as he thought. There are doors, portals, which lead beyond his world to a place monsters lurk, worse still, they sometimes cross over, hunting. Jake finds himself on the mission of a lifetime. His very life, and that of those he cares for is on the line. Can he hold back the tides of evil, or will darkness consume everything?

Unknown by Phil Price is a paranormal horror written in an engaging third-person style. I'll admit to struggling initially to get into the book, mainly because there were a lot of different characters and timelines introduces, all of which are important later in the tale. I enjoyed the attention to detail and the world-building of the alternate dimensions, and the reactions to the different environments. I liked Jake's character, and he became perfectly complimented by Kathrine. Danger, monsters, and myths unite to bring this tale that those liking anything paranormal will be bound to enjoy. the only criticism I could level was near the end I felt as if I was missing a few chapters, one ended on the cusp climax, and the next picked up when everything was over, leaving what happened a mystery for the readers' own imagination, and with a second book to follow I imagine answers will be found as the tale unfolds.

Summed up in three words, this book is eerie, atmospheric and unique. I love a bloody vampire tale and Unknown by Phil Price (the first instalment in the Forsaken series) didn’t disappoint; plus, it was packed with much more—portals to other worlds, fantastic fantasy fiction, a touch of the paranormal and was full of weird and wonderful creatures. Loads to get your fangs into (excuse the pun). The story this author took me on, taking me back and forth into parallel worlds, proved exhilarating. He certainly kept me on my toes. Wonderfully written too. I found the folklore elements, with haunted forests and endangered sisters, particularly engaging and hope to listen to the book on audible at some point. I think it would prove an unnerving experience. The protagonist, a former DI, came across as extremely authentic and I warmed to him immediately, poor guy. Great story telling from the author who created a really dark world (silent round of applause). I can’t wait to start on the sequel.

This was a difficult one to rate. The story is decent enough to warrant a go with the second book, but the presentation is abysmal. If it was self-published, maybe it marks the beginning of a learning curve (I hope). If there was an editor or proofreader, they need firing.

The book is littered with errors to the extent of having something wrong on virtually every page. The chapter sections aren't separated in any way, so you keep getting confused before realising that the narrative has changed to a different location or different characters. There are typos and homophones throughout, and some words are so badly mangled or out of place that I can only imagine that the novel was dictated via a computer program. It's a shame, because the story is interesting, once you get through the first few chapters (the sex scenes are excruciating, though).

I rarely read fantasy/horror, but when I stumbled on The Unknown I decided to try it out. I was surprisingly entertained and even didn’t mind the vampires, which is a real credit to Price as I would normally stop reading the moment they appear. Writing with exceptional imagination, Price has a knack for luring his readers into his story world.

There can be no doubt Price ticks all the boxes of the genre. Strange and spooky happenings in far flung lands. A preternatural child with glowing yellow eyes. Vampires. Doors into other worlds. A looming sense of dread. And a black cross edged with silver on a black rope chain. The scene is set for a seriously creepy read.

Good characterisation, and Price is at pains to endear his protagonists to his readers. Effective world building is critical in the genre and Price has crafted a realm that is at once enchanting and menacing and convincing. I certainly lost myself in it.

After an engaging set up, The Unknown is filled with dramatic tension, with new plot lines and twists and plenty going on to hold the attention. Very well thought out, The Unknown is a visual feast and a gripping read. I would recommend to all who enjoy dark fantasy.

What an amazing book. Lot's of events in different timelines which are masterfully brought together towards a great showdown. I loved how the terror in this book was not thrown in your face with too much gore but instead was an insidious creep up on you kind of scare. A very different slant on the vampire and the 'different worlds' were really well described.

Phil Price is now on my favourite author list and I can't wait until the sequel 'The Turning' is out.

One for both genders as it has the lot. Very highly recommended read!!

Fab book. This is first of Phil's books that I've read and I was not disappointed.

I really like the crossover between worlds and the interactions with different characters.

I like the fantasy aspects to this book and the not knowing who or what is taking the humans. But are they only taking humans...

Really interesting book and I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Brilliant first book from Phil and I look forward to more.

Great story

A true thrill... This vampire story wasn't the ones that we're used to. There were magic doors that led to other worlds. Blood thirty vampires and creatures galore. This was truly a great read. I won't write a spoiler because the book is just better when you go from beginning to end without the help of visual aides.

Exciting and Imaginative

There are so many people and places in the beginning it is almost overwhelming. However once everything is in place the story locks in to continuing suspense and action. Human and non-human characters have depth and are quite realistic. Although the book ends with a teaser for what is coming, the first story is complete. The style of writing is very straightforward and does a great job of describing without slowing progress of the story. This is not the kind of book you can put down.

Gripping fantastical ride!

I really loved this book! It was amazing how all the stories intertwined and linked throughout the ages and even in the different places. This was very cleverly done! I adored all the characters, their depth and how well they were written. I found the attention to detail was truly incredible and I really was swept away. I can’t wait to read the next instalment and see where we venture to next!

Great Fantasy Horror

I have read many vampire horror books in my life. Some were great, others good..some not so good.
I liked this one immensely. It has a fantasy flavor that works so well with the vampire horror. The characters, even the bad guys, have good development. It is one that I will go back and read again in a few months.
Great book!!!

This book should not be as good as it is. There are many, many typos, so if you are a grammar Nazi, beware. The author also uses colloquialisms and terminology that don't translate into the story line. However, surprisingly, the story keeps moving along and taking you with it.

I picked this up primarily for the premise. The story follows Jake Stephenson an ex-cop who in investigating a gruesome murder gets pulled into an alternate world. Alternate world? Count me in. Puertorican vampire? What's not to like? Even with the questionable writing, the story did not disappoint. Best recommendation?
I immediately got the second book in the series.

Unknown: by Phil Price

“Unknown” is a clever mix of modern day crime and yesteryear myths and legends, where Vampires, monsters, crones and other beasties cross from one world to another in order to hunt.

The story begins with a murder in one world and then in another and another and the reader realises that these mini stories and different worlds are somehow interrelated. As the story builds, it´s down to ex policeman, now PI, Jake, to put an end to these murders and hold back the evil that threatens to destroy his own world and others.

The author´s attention to detail in regards to describing the different worlds Jake visits were spot on. So much so, that I felt like I could step through the Doorway and probably find my way around there…(and I have NO sense of direction whatsoever!)

The characters, both good and evil were beautifully portrayed. The more I read, the more they grew on me.

The storyline is unique and in some ways thought provoking- What if these hidden doorways really do exist and all the ghosts, ghouls, vampires, monsters and other creatures we were told were myths really do exist?

*Small spoiler ahead:

A highlight for me was when Jakes took his motorbike through the hidden Doorway to a more primitive existence to combat the vampires. It reminded me of Darrell from “The Walking Dead”. Fabulous!

I Highly Recommend it.

Wow this book is absolutely brill I throughly enjoyed and was my first delve into this genre with these particular characters.

I absolutely loved the descriptive writing that took my mind into a 4d world. I felt I lived and felt this book through the different eras, places, weathers as well as the chills and characters. I loved the fact the flow of the writing was a smooth transition between the times, even though some of the characters moved with such speed.

Who is Eddie Guzman and what becomes of him? What are steel horses? Where do different doors lead to and from? Krogan is a master but a master of what? Are questions that will unravel along this intriguing story that keeps you wanting to turn the pages. After all “there is evil that seeps through the trees”.

Well done to this amazing author a great first book in the series. I’m definitely looking forward to more.

Remember the thing under your bed, the Vampire outside your window? all the tines as a child your parents told you that they didn't exist? well they lied! They are real, so very very real and they are coming for you! You need to keep your wits about you, grab anything you can use to defend yourself, oh and Faith you will need a lot of that, if you are to survive. The Unknown is a the first book in a series by Phil Price, and trust me ,it's good. It reminded me of Clive Barker's Weave World, (one of my favourite books) . It's dark, light, tense has just the right amount of dry humour, and is a page turner.. Me? off to read the second book...:-)

This is an intriguing vampire story - doors to other worlds, mythical creatures, characters from the past whose stories are interwoven with the present, and dark forests where no human dares to tread.

The story takes us from past to present and back again, and as it slowly unravels the pieces all slot into place. With well-developed characters and an engaging plot, I'm intrigued to see where the story will go in the next book!
