I've never been to New York but there are a few books that really transport me there and this is one of them. I was roaming the streets of NYC at times and not in Times Square. Oh, no--I was in the Financial District. It's not your typical touristy story, but more about how hard it is to build up a food business in a cutthroat city, but don't let that fool you--there are plenty of sweet moments interspersed throughout.
Lindsey has worked so hard to open Sugarbee's Sweets--a cupcake place--but cupcakes are so last year and that's especially apparent when Eric shows up with his cookie food truck and parks it right outside of her store. I love it when a story has multiple levels of sparks and this one delivers. Not only are these two competitors, but their first meeting was not over their businesses and they manage to develop an immediate connection. These two waffle between being enemies and friends, with an inkling of being even more than that and I love the way they work together, in a one step forward, two steps back fashion. Their relationship is sweet, volatile at times, and oh, so swoony.
The reader isn't given a lot of information about Lindsey's family, but they seem supportive of her venture, whereas Eric's family are real jerks. I love that he's not like the rest of them, which is especially apparent with that great ending. This is yet another fun and entertaining offering in this series.
Content: mild, swoony romance; very mild violence

This is the 9th Billionaire Bride Pact novel I have read. I actually found it refreshing that the male lead was not actually a billionaire. Because really we can all dream of marrying a billionaire but odds are against us and finding a nice guy who makes you happy is what we should really be after anyway.
I enjoyed Lindsey and Eric's story. They both had many things to overcome. The trials they had to face made for a great story. This wasn't my favorite of the series but I have no regrets in taking the time to read this great book!
The Ambitious One: Jeanette’s Billionaire Bride Pact Romance Book 5 was written by Jeanette Lewis. While at a girl’s summer camp, a group of young girls got together and decided they would make a pact to marry only wealthy men. Ironically, several of the girls did just that. Others did not and still others haven’t married yet. This novel looks at one of the girls who decided on a business instead of marrying. She has worked hard to get her business off the ground but still hasn’t made it yet. As to marrying, so far that is completely out of the picture. The book is a quick red but is very interesting as it looks at just how far someone will go to get back at another person for a fictitious wrong. Lindsey Asher had finally finished cleaning her bakery from top to bottom and was finishing up by lugging the garbage out to the curb. It was quite late and the street was empty as she headed to the curb. As she placed one bag on the stack, a rat ran out and startled her. She almost fell onto the sacks but a strong hand reached out and caught her. A young man helped her regain her balance and asked if he could help her. It was funny, but he didn’t frighten her. They talked and he invited her for hot chocolate and to talk. She agreed to meet him at a café nearby. Meeting him was something totally unlike her; but she felt he could be trusted. Thus, began a unique friendship between Lindsey and Eric Kasabov. Eric Kasabov was also a New York City boy. He worked for his Father right now selling cookies out of a truck. He hadn’t wanted to work for his Father and had rebelled when he was younger. His Father had thrown him out of the house and he had tried college; but his drinking and partying got in his way. He became an alcoholic and now had been taken back into the business; but as a lowly employee who was not trusted. His brother Connor was set up to oversee his brother. When Eric realized they were setting up the cookie truck in front of Lindsey’s bakery, he tried to get Connor to move it; but Connor wouldn’t budge. He saw Eric’s friendship with Lindsey as detrimental to the business. Can Lindsey and Eric have any kind of friendship when their businesses are not working together? When Lindsey’s assistant gets involved, things begin to go downhill taking Lindsey and Eric with them.
I believe that The Ambitious One is the best book I’ve read by Jeanette Lewis. I was drawn into the story from the first paragraph, and the pacing and deliver of the story was excellent.
The book was romantic with a bit of suspense thrown in. Not in the aspect that you don’t know who is causing the trouble, but because you don’t know the lengths he will go to in order to eliminate the competition.
I loved the way the characters were perfect and yet flawed. The conflict between Lindsey and Eric created just the right amount of tension and was very realistically done. The pull Eric had towards Lindsey and his desire to win her heart was countered by his desire to please his father and win back his respect causing a great deal of tension. I thought the author also did a great job of bringing the city to life. Not just in describing the huge buildings, but by describing the businesses and the people there in a way that made it personal.
Here are a few favorite quotes:
But his smile made her think of a kid, bounding down the stairs on the morning of the first snowfall, his hair sticking out at odd angles.
But even more powerful was the buzz that came from being in Eric’s presence, like she was charged and every molecule in her body was responding to a similar molecule in his.
While part of the Billionaire Bride Pact, the Ambitious One (and all of the rest of the series) can be read independently.
Lindsay Asher has always dreamed of owning her own bakery. Her dream has come true. She has a cupcake shop, Sugarbee's Sweets, in downtown Manhattan. But her dream is not going as smoothly as she hoped it would. She is barely making it financially, is trying to impress food critics, and just when she thinks she's had a magical night with a handsome stranger, he parks a cookie truck right in front of her bakery and starts stealing her customers! Poor Lindsay!
Eric Kasabov doesn't realize that Lindsay is the owner of Sugarbee's until after their amazing date. He has already announced the location of his food truck, and can't do anything to change it. Can he still get to know Lindsay or are they destined to be at war?
I loved Lindsay and Eric. Their first date was adorable, chemically charged, and unfortunately doomed. I couldn't wait to see Lindsay and Eric work things out professionally, so that they could have a chance romantically. Even though they were at "war," I loved how Eric took care of Lindsay. I loved watching Eric and Lindsay grow together, find strength, and figure out what truly mattered to each of them.
This was a book with a spine-tingling romance, a bit of action , and a lot of heart!
I really enjoyed the plot on this one! I liked it's originality and it's fun.
I liked Lindsey, I liked the way she was determined to make her little bakery into a profitable business in New York. She's doing everything she can, including having some huge food bloggers come to Sugarbee's and do a review. But things never seem to go the way she thinks they will!
I really liked the way she and Eric meet. And then when he parks his cookie cart right in front of her bakery, because his brother insists, oh my! I liked that Eric tried to get out of parking it there, and I liked the way he was trying to look out for Lindsey, even at detriment to himself with both his father and brother. Eric's character is so great! I loved the way he worked so hard to change his life and keep it that way, even with the way his father and brother treated him. And when he realizes that's never going to change, he goes another way.
This one is just a fun romance that you won't want to put down. It can be easily read in an afternoon.
A TRULY LOVELY ROMANCE Every time I read another Billionaire Bride Pact Romance I think, “Oh! THIS one is my favorite!”. When I saw the title for this one, The Ambitious One, I was prepared to not like Lindsey quite as much as the other ‘Brides’. An ambitious New York business woman? I was expecting brash, pushy, maybe a bit selfish in her business dealings. Instead we get a lovely young woman whose thoughtfulness and compassion has her being the kind of person who makes a difference in the lives of others. The Ambitious One is a lovely romance with characters that you want to get to know more... well, the NICE ones! ;-) It also has some definite scoundrels! This is a book that captures your attention and imagination on the first page and doesn't let you go til THE END.
* I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
How can one of the best first dates ever end on such a bad note? Lindsey has no idea why Eric basically ran off the night before but it doesn't take long before she figures out he is the competition. She was such a mix of sweet and feisty. Eric was such a great guy but had a few demons he was trying to overcome. Will these two realize they have more in common and find happiness with each other? I have really enjoyed this serious and this is imo one of the best ones. A sweet, clean romance with a great storyline.
Running your own bakery is hard work, but when the food cart specializing in cookies parks in front of your business it can turn into all out war. Eric is working the cookie cart for his family, but his heart isn't in it. Lindsey is trying so hard to make her bakery a success, but she hates the business side. Eric and Lindsey are drawn to each other, but his ruthless family is out to ruin her. Will love be enough to keep them together, or will circumstances tear them apart. Read this very good book and find out!
Who knew meeting in an alley would lead to love, that is until Eric's father forces him to go into competition with Lindsey's business. Choosing between honoring your father or love with a rival business has Eric and Lindsey in a bind. But when Eric's dad and brother start putting Lindsey in danger he will have to choose help Lindsey or have his father and brother face prosecution. Good story! I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
What an interesting meet cute! Not one I would imagine, but it works for Eric and Lindsey. Being competitors keeps coming between them. I enjoy how they came together and helped bring out the best in each other. I really enjoyed the book, but wish it had been longer. I felt the last 1/4 of the book was a bit rushed.
A sweet story, with surprising twists! Lindsey has her Sugarbee’s Sweets, but sales aren’t quite as good as she thought they would be by now. While trying new items to sell, a curbside trailer shows up and offers competition, selling cookies. This book has romance, suspense, and a wonderful story line that ends beautifully. Jeanette Lewis never disappoints her readers!
Another great book in the Billionaire Bride Pact Romance Series. This book is a stand alone. I loved that while Lyndsey was ambitious she was also caring and very fair. I liked how Eric treated Lyndsey. The chemistry between the two sizzles and they make a great pair. This is a fun read set at Christmas time.
I have missed reading the Billionaire Bride pact books. I’m not sure why I took so long to get this one to the top of my list but I loved it so much! Lindsey and Eric are perfect for each other and I loved their story. I hope we get another glimpse of them in the last book because I didn’t want this one to end. Another amazing book to add to this series. They really all are amazing!
This was a fast paced story centered in New York. The couple had huge obstacles to overcome and most centered around family and a sweet little cupcake shop. My only complaint would be the ubrupt ending. This was a sweet, clean romance.
This was such a great book. Two people trying to find their way in the world and find each other. Life isn't easy for either of them but together they find love and a bond that makes them stronger
This was a fun read. Definitely not a preachy book, for those who don't like that. Instead it was pretty realistic as to what life can be like. Recommend to anyone. The Billionaire Bride Pact has been a fun series to read.
Instant like. Instant connection. The perfect couple. That is until he finds out she owns the bakery near where his family will be setting up their cookie cart. Can these two overcome the challenges that come their way?
Eric and Lindsey battle for their love. Between their own family, businesses and just plain life it is difficult. But, love can and does conquer all. Just have plenty of snacks around-you will be nibbling.
I really enjoyed this story about Lyndsey and Eric. Her finding her own way and him overcoming his demons to really live. This is a sweet, clean romance that really kept the pages turning quickly for me.
I love this series! I love this author! So when I opened the book I knew I was in for a treat – and I was right!
I loved Lindsey and her determination to succeed. Even though she is fighting to build a business in New York City, she remains kind, caring and giving. She is a person that can be admired!
Eric has faced many challenges, and thanks to his brother and father, continues facing more. He is such a good man! I loved the way he was there for Lindsey when she needed him. They had a bit of a rocky road, but it was wonderful to see them find happiness together.
I always love it when other characters make cameo appearances in a book! It was fun to see Holly (The Rebellious One) again in this book. And I hope we’ll get to see Eric and Lindsey in a future book, too!
I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
