Mr. Darcy's Kiss

Rate this book
Rich.
British.
Hot as hell.

Elizabeth Bennett has never appreciated any of these traits in a man. So when Mr. Darcy, billionaire British playboy and GQ's Bachelor of the Year, meets her at a function, she's surprised at how attracted she is to him.

That is until he puts his foot in his big, arrogant mouth.

The slap that she gave him got her thrown out of the biggest fundraiser of the year, but the mark she left on Mr. Darcy won't leave his mind.

The second time that they meet "on accident", he turns up the arrogance even more.

The third time, he tries flowers.

By the fourth time, he's wearing a cup to protect himself.

Mr. Darcy is the last man in the world that Elizabeth could ever be with. However, love makes fools of us all, and the one man that she can't stand is the one man she can't resist.

Can Mr. Darcy's kiss win over the heart of Elizabeth Bennett?

Whomp whomp. Can't say I loved it. :( Some of it felt forced, like it had to be there because it happened in Pride and Prejudice. I'm not sure if I liked this Elizabeth Bennet, definitely hated this Lydia (as I always do), and didn't really care much for Mr. Darcy. Which is a travesty, since I absolutely love Mr. Darcy.

A modern story set in the USA which follows much of the outline of P&P. However it is only Lydia and Lizzie as sisters who share an apartment with Jane. Lydia has stars in her eyes and is always looking for someone to make her a famous star. Jane works to restore works of art, while Elizabeth works in the cardiac ICU at St. Austin Hospital.

The three go to a fund raiser for which Lizzie has won tickets and meet Charles Bingley and William Darcy. The latter comes off as a snob (of course) and insults Elizabeth (of course) while she is standing behind him and Charles. She does not ignore the insult (that she would snog him just to brag about it) but goes up to him and slaps him.

As said things follow and there is one MA scene but the "proposal" is recorded and hits the social media i.e., YouTube. Catherine is COO of the Airlines Co. the Darcys own and makes her confrontation by traveling from London to NYC. Georgiana is part of the story but Collins only makes a cameo appearance and Charlotte's name is mentioned in passing.

This was a short read and perfect for the mood I was in as we await a snowstorm here in the NE USA.

It was a very meh average-ish kind of book for me. Can't say a lot about it actually, because it's a story we all know very well, so that is definitely not the issue. The delivery and the writing fell short sadly.

This is a very faithful, if a bit abridged, modernization of Pride and Prejudice. Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are mentioned but never appear. Same with Elizabeth's "uncle," who's never identified as Mr. Gardiner, and there's no reference to an aunt. No Anne de Bourgh. Mr. Hurst and Louisa don't exist (unless Louisa goes by "Lou" and owns a coffee truck.) Mary and Kitty Bennet don't exist. Jane is Elizabeth's best friend rather than her sister. (Yes, that leaves Lydia as Elizabeth's sole sibling.) Mr. Collins and Charlotte show up so briefly that if you blink you'll miss them. Interestingly, Emma Woodhouse makes a cameo appearance.

The story, just like P&P, is told from Elizabeth's point of view, although it's narrated in first person rather than third person. We never know what any of the other characters think unless she hears them say it. She is a nurse in a Cardiac ICU unit. Lydia is her pain in the butt younger sister who is convinced that she will be "discovered" and become a big star. Jane is an artist who currently restores paintings and teaches art classes. The three share a great apartment in a building near Central Park in New York City that Jane's parents bought decades ago, before it became such a fashionable neighborhood.

As the story opens, Lydia is excited because the penthouse in their building has been rented for the rest of the year by a billionaire, who turns out to be Charles Bingley. He and Jane meet at a high class hospital fundraising event Elizabeth has won free tickets to attend. William Darcy ("...call me Mr. Darcy") is also in attendance, and not only is he ungentlemanly, he's downright nasty. What Elizabeth overhears him say about her goes way beyond "tolerable but not tempting." Unlike the Regency Elizabeth, our contemporary Elizabeth doesn't laugh it off. Instead, she hauls off and slaps him in the face. (I cheered inside when she did this.) That'll certainly get a guy's attention... Wowza! Game ON!

The author's methods of bringing the story into the 21st century are very clever and work well. Charles' business ventures include a hot dance club and a swanky new hotel, and there are always plenty of photographers around him and Darcy. Jane is both uncomfortable in crowds and terribly camera shy, but she doesn't tell Charles this because she wants to spend time with him and therefore doesn't turn down his invitations to these very public events. Mr. Wickham is a "talent agent" who appears more legit than the other scam artists Elizabeth has steered Lydia away from in the past. Speaking of Lydia, it WOULD be mortifying to have a sister like her. She does anything she can think of to be the center of attention, and generally causes an embarrassing scene. Yet she also has a couple of really sweet moments that make the reader understand why Elizabeth loves her and continues to watch out for her. Catherine de Bourgh is the Chief Operating Officer of Mr. Darcy's company, Oceanic Airlines, and kept the company going after his father died before he was ready to take the reins. There's a spoiler about Georgiana I won't spill, but her personality is very different from canon when she meets Elizabeth.

I grew up near NYC and have been there a lot, and one element of the story I found very hard to fathom was the number of coincidental meetings characters have. Elizabeth goes for a walk and bumps into Lydia at a park right after her sister has met Wickham, which is when she's introduced to Lydia's new talent agent. Within minutes, Mr. Darcy also comes upon them. Later, Elizabeth and Jane happen to be at a restaurant at the same time Mr. Darcy and Fritz (who's a regional director for Oceanic Airlines) are there. Elizabeth takes another walk, this time along city streets, and Mr. Darcy comes along. There are just too many people and too many restaurants and places to walk in NYC for this much running into each other in this short a period of time.

Unlike P&P (at least overtly), lust features strongly here. Darcy shags Elizabeth even before she has a change of heart. She can't resist him because he's just so hot. Her head keeps telling her how terrible he is while her body keeps finding him completely irresistible. I'm not a big fan of the lust-before-love approach to sexual scenes, but for those who enjoy that kind of thing, it's well written.

In fact, the whole book is nicely written. Dialogue and relationships are believable. I kind of like the characters, though I think they'd be more appealing to millennials than to an old lady like me. There is a clear turning point and HEA. Overall, I did enjoy it.

Pride and Prejudice in todays world. Krista has brought Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy into todays world with an amazing story. If you have read or seen Pride and Prejudice movies you will recognize some of the lines but the love story Krista has created is wonderful. Krista developed the story and the characters so you are immediately drawn into their lives and the lives of those around them. You will laugh at the antics of Lydia and cry with Lizzie and Jane.

Loved this book!! What's a woman to do when she can't stand someone but she feels a bone deep connection?? That is what Elizabeth Bennett was thinking when she met William Darcy. Elizabeth thought Darcy was arrogant and insulting and could not stand being in the same room with him.
William Darcy thought Elizabeth Bennett was a gold digger. When they realize that they were both wrong can they salvage there relationship or is it doomed to fail?? This is a standalone book! Don't hesitate to buy this book...you will love it too!!!

Loved the book! William Darcy was very arrogant & self-centered but had a good heart. I loved that Elizabeth Bennett stood her ground with him. Elizabeth's sister, was stuck on herself. :) I enjoyed how the relationship blossomed towards the end of the book. I'm really hoping there are more books especially with Charles and Elizabeth's best friend.

I received an arc of this book by the author for an honest review. The story was absolutely amazing. Krista never seems to disappoint. I strongly suggest that you read this. If you have liked the authors other books than you will definitely enjoy this one. Mr. Darcey is a hard man to understand. One minute you are hating him, and the next you're loving him.

Oh My! What a lovely, sweet story. This is a modern twist on Pride and Prejudice written for the modern world by Krista Lakes. It follows the original story but has a modern spin and is reworked for today’s world and there are several twists and turns in this story which I found exciting and thrilling.
At first I didn’t like Mr. Darcy.. wasn’t sure if I ever would but oh my, by the end of this book, Mr. Darcy was swoon worthy. Elizabeth was strong and sure even though it seemed at times maybe she wasn’t. I also liked how there was several other mini stories going on at the same time and instead of one HEA, we got several inside this story. I quite enjoyed the retelling of Pride and Prejudice and hope the author will do this again with another classic. The passion and connection between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is there and it builds. I liked how it didn’t club me over the head but slowly built until it explodes in its beauty. I like Ms. Lakes writing style and look forward to see what she writes next.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

I have been struggling to get my fix for Darcy and Lizzie. I hesitated because I wasn't sure if I wanted contemporary. I was pleased with this one. Lizzie is a nurse and only has Lydia as a sister. Jane is her BFF. The three live together in an apartment and are going to a high society auction/ party. If you read the blurb about the impression Darcy leaves on Lizzie you it will give you the best idea of the Darcy we are dealing with.

Oh, if you thought he put his foot in his mouth in the original he really steps in it with his opinion in this one. I literally laughed out loud reading his declaration about his feelings for Lizzie the first time. I can't imagine listening to it outside his head sounded any more flattering then being on the receiving end. I am not kidding I would recommend you read it just for that part alone but the time spent taking you to this point was fun too. The author brings in the familiar events, characters and with things distorted enough to be a fresh spin. Darcy is an arrogant, obnoxious billionaire who believes all woman are after his money. This is taken to the extent he is crass and vulgar when he believes only Charles to be listening. Yes, that famous overheard attack to Lizzie's person from the original assembly is brought into our world and what might be said in the present.

Our Elizabeth does not disappoint with her wit and strength in dressing Darcy down. I loved witnessing her passion with her tongue lashing and enjoyed William slowly seeing his faults. I do wish we could have seen his POV as well as Lizzies. So after Lizzie's big blow up with Darcy goes viral, ya heard me, Elizabeth gets that famous letter clarifying facts not only concerning Mr. Wickham but also his character. She sees the side he's kept hidden and the rest you just need to read to get the full effect. This is not a clean read but only has one hot scene. Oh, and while I bring that up let me say the scene is steamy with a masculine Darcy but after the moment is complete I would have choked him. I really felt while Elizabeth berated herself how judgmental and impulsive she was to call out Darcy as she did, this was not really touched upon by Darcy. It was a big deal IMO.

He was so bad in his behavior and sees nothing wrong with it and it was just forgotten. I know you have to forgive and forget but I think most woman would agree with me in his ill treatment of her. A very fun, passionate and creative re imagining to classic story that I will read again. Emma Woodhouse even makes a brief appearance. Enjoy!

Went by very quickly. Almost too quickly. I didn't realize how short this was when I first started reading. I know this is a P&P retelling, but this was the biggest case of instalove I've ever seen for both main couples. At least Lydia came out unscathed.

To be honest, nothing will ever measure up to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries for P&P modern adaptations. Not to say I won't enjoy other books but I feel like LBD was lightning in a bottle, visually and textually

Received an ARC from author in return of a review! Amazon review to be posted later on after release.

I was in love with the idea of this story. I like how William Darcy came across as rough and arrogant but he really was a decent person. Elizabeth intimidated him and I liked how he was with her. Lizzie’s sister, was annoying lol but well have someone like that!!! This book was amazing!! I hope there is more, especially Charles!!!

Such a great story!!

This was such a cute read I grew to love Mr. Darcy, there were times the man did not hesitate to help his girl, “I’ll take you home.” He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t have to think about it. He just offered." I liked this book.

Krista Lakes did a wonderful job on this story once again. Had trouble liking Mr Darcy in the beginning, but like Elizabeth I found his story interesting. Charles and Jane’s love helped in forming a bond between Mr Darcy and Lizzie. Truly enjoyed this book, keep up the good work Krista.

Nope the heroine in this novel that was supposed to represent Elizabeth Bennett just wasnt as tough or even as sassy as the original . some spoilers follow so dont read anymore if you dont want to know .

But our heroine hears our hero say she is easy shag and a gold digger and she slaps him , right I loved it then the hero has his bodyguards throw her out of the event she was at. The next day without any apologies or grovelng from the hero , the heroine apologizes not once but twice !! what the holy crap . And then the very next day sleeps with the hero and the hero walks away without a backward glance and she accepts a lukewarm apology for that a few days later .

This heroine sucked big time , not brave , not strong , not sassy....just a doormat .

I really love Krista Lakes new book Mr. Darcy’s Kiss. It’s modern day Jane Austen, love the feel good feeling it gave me. Mr. Darcy seemed like such an unhappy man with no love in his heart, in the beginning. But as the story went on and as his life unfolds, I found that he did have a heart and it was a big one. He was all about helping others and finding a way to save his family. His past made him the way he is, it’s not that he didn’t know how to care for others…it was because he didn’t trust others so easily.

When Mr. Darcy first met Elizabeth it was love at first hate. They despised each other, everything that came out of Mr. Darcy’s mouth was rude and hateful. Elizabeth wanted nothing to do with him, but fate always had them bumping into each other, until both their walls broke. They were so funny at times and their quicky in the conference room was hot. I really enjoyed their love and hate relationship. It was such a fun and pure love of romance. Loved it.

Really great story, following that famous story, but set in current times and given that Krist Lakes touch! It’s another great read by the author!

Loved Elizabeth, Jane, Lydia. Several stories are going on at the same time! This book is a bonus..really 3 stories in one where all end happily. Jane and Charles ! Lydia! Of course Elizabeth and William.

Mr. Darcy was, as you’d expect, a bit cool, but everything came together in a very happy ending.

I LIVE the writing of Ms. Lakes and recommend this book! I’ll read it again when I need to feel good about the world and want my faith in man renewed!

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I haven't read Pride and Prejudice (I know, I know), so I didn't have anything to compare this book to. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this romance! The enemies-to-lovers and back and forth banter had me finishing this book in one reading session. Lydia was, of course, annoying, as little sisters sometimes are. Lizzie and Jane are lots of fun and are more like sisters than friends. The story had some sizzling scenes as well.

Overall, I felt swept away by this romance and didn't want to put it down until I finished reading it. Very rarely do I finish a book all at once, but I stayed up past my bedtime with this one.

I received an ebook copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Cute story with multiple HEA. It took me awhile to warm up to Mr Darcy, but finally seeing him for his true self, along with Elizabeth made the journey worthwhile. Enjoyed the other characters I.e., Lydia, Jane, and their journey to their HEA. Georgiana was a breath of fresh air. Smart, witty, in spite of her illness. Keep writing, Krista. Love your books.😍

DNF-ed at 70%. Reads like a pale shadow of the original, with characters who lack depth and some bits thrown in just because (Collins and Charlotte--blink and you'll miss them entirely! )

2.5 stars. I was surprised that this story was very meh for me. I really don't care for first person storytelling, but that's just personal preference. Aside from that, it felt like it was full of gaps. What was there was good, but it should have been fleshed out better.

I gave this book 4 stars!!!

This is a modern day tell of Pride and Prejudice at its finest! If you enjoyed it then you will like this book. I have to say that Krista capture Mr. Darcy to a T!!! The arrogance of him, to the casual way that he didn't want Elizabeth and how he loves his sister! I felt this book could have went on longer than it did and I felt that over all it was a good love story.

Elizabeth cant stand Mr. Darcy from the start but she also cant understand the underline connection she has for the man. From slapping him to wanting to kiss him , you will read the modern tell of what its like to go from hating to loving some one in 0.5 seconds. Be prepared for all that come with it because it not a easy ride.

I think the book of pride and prejudice has been very idealized. At this time those behaviors would not be tolerated by any woman. Still the book was entertaining.
