Rejecting Wade Hunter was the worst mistake Charlie Michaelsen ever made. But what good is knowing that now? Even if Charlie were brave enough to confess her true feelings, Wade’s gone—two thousand miles gone, in Colorado, while Charlie’s home in Massachusetts. As for Wade, he’s moving on, done trying to shake the girl who wrecked him. It’s been six months. He’s finally inching towards normal. Until Charlie shows up in Colorado—to stay. FINDING THE EDDY, Sienna Cash’s long-awaited sequel to WORST-KEPT SECRET, picks up the sexy story of the once-doomed Charlie and Wade, childhood next-door neighbors who stumbled into love across a seven-year age gap. With fresh determination, Charlie’s ready to prove to Wade that she means it this time. Uprooting her life from the Atlantic to the Rockies is nothing compared to losing the best person she’s ever known. But is Wade ready, or even willing, to take that risk? With piercing honesty and humor, FINDING THE EDDY follows Charlie and Wade’s uncertain journey of forgiveness and redemption towards a HOME that may have nothing to do with geography.
Sienna Cash grew up in the suburbs of Boston and lives in Colorado with her family. The idea for her first novel, WORST-KEPT SECRET, and its pivotal scene came to her in a dream, but it had nothing to do with a meadow or vampires. She has never had a treehouse like the one that figures so prominently in WORST-KEPT SECRET, but she still wants one. Even though her first novel is for adults, she loves young-adult romances and thinks Stephanie Perkins is the bomb. Sienna wrote WORST-KEPT SECRET for people who are in love with love--the nostalgic kind, the heartbreaking kind, the blindsiding kind, and the keep-it-real kind. She is currently working on the sequel to WORST-KEPT SECRET, due for publication in 2017. Visit www.siennacash.com to be notified of the pre-order.
I can’t rate this. Seriously. I’ve only ever read a handful of books that I couldn’t rate. They are:
> The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender > Keturah and Lord Death > Deluge (River of Time, #3) > A Million Worlds With You (Firebird, #3)
And this one. It’s weird when I come across a book that mangles me so much that I don’t have a solid star system opinion of it. Usually it’s a final book in a series, which means I have a hard time dealing with endings because I have issues! But if there’s a lot of emotional upheaval in the pages, I’ve found that I have a hard time rating it highly. I do eventually go back and rate after some introspection, though.
All I can say with certainty is Sienna Cash is an extraordinary writer (which is no big surprise since I read WORST KEPT SECRET) and the flawless writing style deserves a 5 star rating. However, a few character issues knocked the star power down because this was such a messy novel story-wise. I don’t mean plot holes or structure; I mean the character choices and actions are just all over the place. Both the main characters act like crazy people and it was exhausting to read.
The book doesn’t wrap up in a neat little bow. Most of the time I was shaking my head at the asinine immaturity of Wade, who acted like a completely different person in this novel. The rest of the time I was aching for Charlie, who kept inviting pain in to deflect the undercurrent of her recurrent depression. I did really like the new friendships and the brokenness Charlie deals with as a result of her actions. That topic is rarely addressed in novels and I really liked such a tender, emotional thing being broached in a story where it kind of made sense. That said, the same masterful authenticity that made WORST KEPT SECRET such a diamond was almost a little too gritty and raw this time around for my taste.
So, yeah. I don’t know how to rate this. I didn’t love it, but I don’t regret reading it. I’ll read more from this author because she’s a writing god. So whatever rating that feels like? See what I mean?
I was so happy to finally read the sequel to Worst Kept Secret. After the first book, I still had a lot of questions, and was so excited to get back into the lives of the characters. I found this book much more intense than the first, in the best ways. This book tells the story from multiple characters’ points of view, which I found captivating. Highly recommended duology for an entertaining weekend of reading!
A satisfying follow up to Worst Kept Secret. As Wade and Charlie will find out, finding your way to your true love isn't without its bumps and bruises, but once you're there, it should be easy. May we all find our eddy, and revel in it.
I really enjoyed this sequel. Charlie and Wade made me cry with frustration at their stubbornness and cry with happiness at their honesty. I look forward to the next chapter in their story!
