This book was a lot of talking about the same thing without really going into meaningful detail. The bulk of content was preparing for the 7 steps. It felt, to me, like this would have been more helpful to read in a blog post as opposed to a book. Otherwise, the concepts and ideas about accepting emotions and tuning into sensations was really wonderful content.

This was just okay.

What I enjoyed: I loved that the author was knowledgeable in chakras, vagus responses, yoga, and cortisol affects while also being Christian. It's so uncommon to find these two sides of emotional health combined, and I greatly appreciated it.

What I didn't love: At times, I felt the notion that this entire book was written to justify the author's decision to stay with her husband after his affair. To each their own (that's a no-contest dealbreaker for me), but she really took on a lot of blame for HIS actions. And while I understand that it does take two to tango, so to speak, (or to stop tangoing), you can go through a relationship/marital rut without having an affair. That was HIS action and mistake, and it's no accident to fall into another person, literally.

This does not feel like a self help book in that it doesn’t really feel like it is helping me help myself… I don’t know what I was expecting but I am finding myself in a rough patch in life and figured I could use the help. Boyle’s husband had an affair (she tells us this 5000 times throughout the book after telling us that he did not want her to use this terminology because it made him feel like they were blocking their ability to heal) and this prompts her need to detox. More than half the book is about why a cleanse is good for you and why you should do it — kind of like when you are looking for a recipe online and more than half the article is a summary about their life story. Some of the tips like resetting your vagus nerve are helpful but the overall CLEANSE process does not seem as legitimate as other ways to emotionally recharge. She is also religious and that made me feel even more excluded. The book itself does not live up to the jazzy title and catchy cover.

Dear Readers,

Please do not read this book if you just started your healing journey from trauma, mental illness, or addiction. I am quite well into my own healing journey but I found myself frowning and shaking my head to many of Ms. Boyle's statements. It kind of irks me how privileged people like her write these sort of books with complete disregard to social class, gender, race, etc. In a perfect world, we all would honor our emotions and not kill each other spiritually with our words and actions. I had high hopes for this book but sadly, I could not continue with it because I vehemently disagree against many of her statements. I think many therapists and psychologists would do similar as well.

7 Steps to release toxicity and energize joy... I don't know what I expected from a book with this title, but it lived up to it.

Basically a waste of time to read. The concept of the emotional detox is useful, but this could be an article on buzzfeed, not a full book. Not a fan of the C.L.E.A.N.S.E. method either though perhaps the delivery in book form just doesn't do it justice.

I'll pass on this book.

4.65⭐️.

“Organic living is about healing and nourishing your relationships, accepting the bumps and bruises along the way as opportunities (rather than reminders) to deepen your connection to joy”.
I found this book very helpful and transforming for me. I love the tips and ways in which we can carefully be open and honest with our emotions. Some days we feel as if our emotions are a burden, but this book showed me that our emotions are us and being open and honest with how we feel is being true to our natural state. I definitely recommend :))

The ideas in this book were decent enough, just presented in a way that was super convoluted and frustrating to read. It was almost like the book was written backwards - I really wish she would've led very clearly with her "CLEANSE" process and then broken it down step by step for the reader, instead of teasing the process and its results for the first 93 pages.

The techniques are a combination of somatic healing exercises, breathwork, body awareness, energy work, yoga, and other typical wellness advice (cut out dairy, sugar, alcohol; drink plenty of water; have healthy boundaries; get enough sleep). She's recounting all the tools she used to get through the fallout and pain of her husband having an affair, and I can appreciate that but the book itself lacks cohesion and a strong through line. I feel like the book either needed to be refocused as a guide for healing after an affair, or examples from the author's life other than the affair needed to be used. It felt unbalanced.

I didn't dislike this book or the authors voice or writing style - I think her ideas maybe needed more time to gel. Honestly she did say the affair blew up when she was writing "Emotional Detox." Maybe some time, distance and healing for the author will make for a better, clearer perspective in her follow-up books. I'm going to move on to her book, "Energy in Action" because it seems to have more clarity and focus and leads with her CLEANSE process from the get-go. I also bought her new book "Just Ask Spirit" so we will see 🤷🏼‍♀️

Everyone is looking for the self help book that will help them find a balance in their crazy life. Emotional Detox isn't anything new with its concepts. The author however is able to make readers see the simplicity of the stop and smell the roses. Sherianna Boyle uses a 7 step process that if readers truly want to change their lives this can be a great recourse for them to use. (7-step C.L.E.A.N.S.E. method to help you rid yourself of negativity, fear, worry, anger, and doubt, and guide you back toward a natural, energized state of pure joy and acceptance. Learn how to Clear your pathways, Look inward, Emit positivist, Activate, Nourish, Surrender, and Ease your way into your best self and a happier and healthier life.)
Emotional Detox gives simple easy steps that will help readers be successfully if they choose to be otherwise this is just another dust collecting self help book.

Thank you To netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy,

This Emotional Detox for Anxiety book does wonders, I wish I was kidding. Anxiety is a motherforcker but we all know that from personal experience or maybe my past articles, Youtube videos, the press lately because apparently anxiety was born in 2019 when some star decided to talk about it. Kidding, anxiety was born long time ago, but it became more known lately when people started the mental health movement, to showcast how we all have feelings and sometimes those feelings are overwhelming but we can go through it day by day, little by little.

The book talks about a cleanse that you should follow to achieve mental clarity and peace of mind. Fantastic, right? It encourages meditation and being in the present moment, also manifestation as well. Key points that truly work. I recommend this book to anyone even if you have an anxiety disorder or not.

I wanted to like this book, so I got through about 1/2 of it before I decided I wasn’t going to waste any more time on it. I kept hoping for something new or insightful. The author seems to be interested only in selling her C.L.E.A.N.S.E. approach (which she mentions on almost every page) and is actually just common sense. In addition, she uses her husband’s infidelity as examples throughout and it seems somewhat quaint considering how much real trauma there is out there in the world, including war, climate disasters, and real abuse. This seems like yet another pop-psychology method designed to sell books and drum up clients. It might be helpful for some people, but it’s completely out of touch in today’s struggle to deal with the big issues affecting most people not in the 1%.

Sherianna Boyle writes with wordy and excessively redundant offerings. I did find elements of the book helpful and practical, but I also thought that a two page summary would have been more clear and impactful. Her compassion and goodwill for the successful emotional recovery of others is evident in her direct and personable presentation of the seven steps presented in this book. The first half of the book felt like a sales pitch for the detox. I do recommend reading the second half of the book, while practicing the detox steps, if you are looking for a method to move in greater self awareness.

First off, it's clear that I may not be Professor Boyle's target audience. They being said, I suppose ultimately I was let down by the content of this book. What I was looking for was more empirical data presentation of how to rid oneself of negative, or overproduced emotion. When I got was more like an episode of Dr. Oz.

That's not to say that nothing within Boyle's book was worthwhile. However, that being said, the content that was scientifically proven, was not original to her body of work.

I really tired to sit down and read it from the beginning to end. However, I found myself skipping through the book after chapter one. It didn't get to the point rather it dumbed everything down page after page. It was a slow burn and I decided to skip to the cleanse chapters and even then it didn't resonate with me. Also, there were many parts about her husband's affair and religious references. I think anyone going through something similar can relate to this book. I recommend giving it a go and if something sticks then keep reading and hopefully it's helpful for you.

I had high expectations from reading the reading the book summary. I got a few things out of the book but nothing as I hoped to gain. Some of it o didn't fully understand (ex. Third eye) and others parts talked in general but didn't go in depth more or describe step how to digest emotions, not react, etc.

What a piece of crap book…. The first 50 pages are just repeating ad nauseum how the “CLEANSE” process will change your life. Without any scientific info to back her claims, the author is clowning about changing your life by stating banal platitudes you could find on TikTok. Chat GpT would have done a better job.
In a nutshell, not worth the money or the time. Pass on.

It felt more like the author wrote this as self talk for themselves than as a useful book than can be transferred into anyone’s life, only gave 1 star cause only 1/5th of it is somewhat useful but even then it’s still questionable

*I listened to the audiobook*

I stumbled upon this book, as I was going through a deep season of pruning. I noticed that my mind and soul was yearning for knowledge and scripture so naturally I felt compelled to read books and boy did I read (and listen to audio books). As I was going through some healing, I noticed that I felt physically I'll and couldn’t wrap my head around it until I realized the emotional healing and pain I was going through felt like a detox and that’s how I stumbled upon this book.

I agree with other reviews I’ve read that if you have already developed some sort of spiritual and wellness practice and are well versed in the self development world by reading the works of Gabby Bernstein and Dr. Wayne Dyer, Law of Attraction, gut health and even therapy, then the first half of the book might not be essential to you and to skip to part 2 and 3. The first part felt repetitive of all the other teachings I’ve learned but I still was taking notes on fresh perspectives. By the time the author gets to the CLEANSE method that’s when the bells and whistles in my head would go off because it’s like taking all the knowledge you have gained all these years and putting it into the CLEANSE practice to detox any emotional trauma, hardship and to find your way back to joy. It’s incredible how much the mind and body connection is so much more powerful than we think and the symptoms and the habits she laid out were relatable to my journey.

I learned so much in Part 3 not only about managing my own healing journey but also about my old ways of thinking that were probably blocking any manifestations coming my way and to tap back into joy something that could be hard for someone to tap into if you have underwent trauma, or find it hard to trust again.

If you have been felt like you have gong through it, your mind, body and soul might be craving for a fresh start, this book could be your guide to help you on your healing journey.

Throughout my reading, I feel like I am reading a psychology text book.

She had the worst experience in her life that made her came out with such a technique to heal her in a way better than before. Drawing on her background as a yoga instructor, energy healer, and psychology professor, she combines spiritual and psychological tools into a self-help manual focused on emotional hygiene, hence emotional detox. The book is structured to be accessible due to its method that can be implemented in daily life. This book reminds us that just like our body needs cleansing, our emotions do too ( Well, we women are tend to overthink right? Or maybe just me)

What I love the most is how the methods feel simple yet practical. The exercises such as breathing, journaling and mindfulness are small steps but powerful when practiced with intention. It’s written in a warm, compassionate tone, making it feel like a gentle companion for emotional healing. (Except, some of the psychological terms that I couldn't understand and I have to search for its meaning)

"Emotional detoxes have a way of bringing us back, connecting us to our core values and intentions". (pg. 44)

My personal insights :
- Healing does not mean pushing feelings aside. It means noticing them, allowing them to appear, embracing them and gently letting them go.
- Some practical steps are provided so that we can apply it right away and help us connect with ourselves.
- When we let go of emotional toxins, we create room for clarity and joy to grow.

I believe the true act of self-care is not adding more into our lives, but learning how to release what is no longer serving us.

This book was a high 3.5 star for me.
However some may not enjoy this book as it relates to Jesus/God now one could change the faith or or to their own beliefs.
I also felt there were many tips or information I am already aware of and doing.
The information that was giving to me that I didn't know or wasn't aware of has been helpful.
It has been helpful with being more of aware of my breathing, feelings instead of thoughts and just more aware of me what do I feel/think at this moment and that has helped.
So the information I did not know was very good for me.
Some of the other information I disagree with there are just some people no matter how hard
you try their reactivity as the author put it in the book will always be a problem for others around them. I also disagree that we can not always hang ourselves wide open or vulnerable to everyone or trust everyone even if we give them the benefit of the doubt how many times or chances after repeatedly lying and broken trust does one finally say alright this isn't good for my mental health or emotions anymore? So I am not sure if that was clear. I think the CLEANSE formula is a good idea and has some wonderful information. Is it perfect no of course not is it helpful yes of course but, we all have to learn and or be aware of ourselves and learn when is enough, Enough.
Being that I was aware of some of the information and just needed to put my cards back in a pile or piles that is why the book received 3.5 stars from me.

I bought this book on a whim. I had just given birth and was so overwhelmed but what was happening around me that I thought "ouh I think I need this". The truth is I did, but not the entire book. The CLEANSE formula taught me a lot of things. The deep breathing excercises, the expectations that need to be managed, processing and reacting to emotions. All that information was helpful and I wanted more.

I gave three stars because the author kept referring to her husband's affair and that stressed me out. I didn't mind the first time it was mentioned nor the second. I didn't mind either the others' stories. But the author kept referring back to the affair and that triggered some emotions. Not because my husband is or had an affair, or not that I know of anyway, but the concept of trust issues that it surfaced. I guess not everyone deals with it in the same manner but I would have been better off without reading that.

Otherwise, the CLEANSE formula is great, I do the breathing exercises every night before bed, legs up, rain sounds and a good book. It has helped me sleep better together with herbal tea and proper dietary habits for bedtime.

I received this book as an advanced reader's copy and this book examines a way of detoxing that is far from what we know detoxing to be. This book focuses on Emotional Detoxing using the acronym C.L.E.A.N.S.E. Clear your pathways, Look inward, Emit positivity, Activate, Nourish, Surrender, and Ease your way into your best self and a happier and healthier life. This easy and unique approach is useful for those people like me under stress most of the time and need to learn that it is ok to take a break and focus on the true meaning of life and the true meaning of happiness. I am going to take this challenge on and I know it will make a significant difference in my life. 5 stars!

Really great book that can help you!
When I saw it on the bookshelf I thought it looked really pretty, but it also sounded like exactly what I needed at the time as well. I also just remember in that moment feeling emotionally blocked, heavy, and stuck. Even though I didn’t necessarily apply the seven steps as I was reading, I think just understanding where things are potentially coming from and how to be self-aware is insightful. Also validated practices I already do which is motivating to do them more.
I recommend this book whether you aware going through a hard time or just want to understand your emotions a little bit better.

If you are experiencing fear, negativity, worry, anger or self doubt this book will definitely help you process your emotions, and figure out what is going on from within.
I had never done an Emotional Detox before but during the Global Pandemic really felt I needed it ever than before. I also had the opportunity to interview the Author Sherianna Boyle for the #spaitgirl podcast show www.spaitgirl.com if you tune into episode 87 on any podcast app you can also find out more about this book, the author and also my personal Emotional Detox journey that I did at home.

This book was very enlightening. I learned so much about how to reduce reactivity and connect with my underlying feelings. She used a lot of analogies to nutrition/organic living, and, at times, sections felt overly wordy. I found the last chapter the be the most helpful (summarizing and recapping the process of moving from reactivity to a place of feeling grounded/joyful and connected with core feelings/emotions. Would definitely recommend for anyone who finds feelings mysterious/difficult to manage/control

A lot of good points, but I don’t know I feel like it left a lot to be desired too. Really unneeded an allies about things like apples in the grocery store. So ridiculous to me I had to skip those parts. It was hard to read, but I feel like message was leading me to a good place, so I finished the entire thing. The general idea of the book was to become better in ways of internal struggle and faith. Can’t really go wrong there. Even if it’s not the best read, it’s still worth reading. 200 quick pages.
