Nicholasa Mohr (born November 1, 1938) is one of the best known Nuyorican writers. Her works tell of growing up in the Puerto Rican communities of the Bronx and El Barrio and of the difficulties Puerto Rican women face in the United States. She was raised in the Bronx. From 1988 through 1991, she taught at Queens College, City University of New York. From 1994 through 1995, she was Writer-in-Residence at Richmond College, the American University in London.

El Regalo Mágico es una historia fantástica para niños y niñas por todo el mundo. Jaime es un niño quien vive en la República Dominica. Todo va bien, entonces su familia decide a mudar a Nueva York. Jaime no le gusta esa idea, porque no va a ver a sus amigos y familia. Cuando llega a Nueva York, Jaime está muy aburrido, enojado, y triste que mudo y quería volver a la República Dominica. Eventualmente, Jaime se hace amigos con otros Americanos. Luego, cuando Jaime hace un buen trabajo en la escuela, sus padres le digan que tienen un sorpreso para el! Nicholasa Mohr hace un buen trabajo describiendo como Jaime sienta cuando llega a Nueva York. Jaime esta tan emocionado cuando sus padres le digan que hay una sorpresa para él, y esta tan curioso.

This story about immigrants creating home in a new place is told simply and feels realistic. It's absolutely worth reading for those who are moving, have moved or want to understand the perspective of a traveler.
