yes this is one of my textbooks for grad school, yes i am counting it towards my 2021 reading challenge because i spent way too much time reading it this semester for it NOT to count!! 🤠
Disclosure: I was invited to help in reviewing one of the chapters in this new edition.
It was wonderful to have this latest edition of the Sommers-Flanagan textbook land on my desk. I can recall, when training to be a counsellor, how much it helped to connect theory, practice and practical examples of the theory and practice in action.
The text is written in the Sommers-Flanagan warm style and easy to read. Highly recommended for students of counselling.
Had to read this for class so it’s counting towards my yearly goal that I’m waaaay behind on. Actually a well written textbook going through the history, main principles, intervention strategies, and vignettes about each of the theories. I appreciate the focus at the end of each chapter about the theory’s multicultural orientation- super important for anything going into counseling yet often left out of traditional curriculum.
This book taught me so much about different psychological schools of thought and approaches to therapy. The feminist therapy section made me roll my eyes so hard they almost popped out.
