In the black depths of Budapest, Killmaster infiltrates a pornographic propaganda mill pledged to pervert the Western world
Carter is summoned to Hawk's office where he meets a representative of the CIA. Carter is shown a box containing the shriveled genitals of a man – the only remains of a CIA agent investigating a communist pornography ring based in Budapest, Hungary. Carter is ordered to infiltrate the pornography ring.
Nick Carter is a house pseudonym used by Award, Ace, and later Jove, publishing for the series Nick Carter who later graduated to a special agent for the Killmaster novels, a series of 261+ spy adventures published from 1964 until late 1990s.
A great number of writers have written under the pen-name over the years, beginning in September 1886 when Nick Carter first appeared in the 'New York Weekly' in a 13-week serial, entitled 'The Old Detective's Pupil; or, The Mysterious Crime of Madison Square'.
The Nick Carter character was originally conceived by Ormond G. Smith, the son of one of the founders of Street & Smith, and realized by John R. Coryell.
He made up his mind. If ever a woman was asking for it -- and, in any case, he wasn't going to get any sleep unless he did something. It had been over a week now since he'd had a woman. he had been recuperating from South Vietnam and the jungle crud. But now he was aroused, by God, and when Nick Carter was aroused something had to happen!
Nick Carter is the Killmaster, Killmaster sounds more badass than The Penetrator, but the Killmaster doesn't have a phallic symbol rising out of his name.
The Killmaster likes to kill people though, a lot. He kills people when they are out cold, just so he leaves no trace. He kills women, but he won't lie to them. Lying to women is something he won't do.
Like The Penetrator though women can't be near Killmaster without wanting to fuck him. That's right, they can't be around him without wanting to get fucked like the dirty slut wenches they are; or at least that they turn into when the Killmaster is present. (
What does the Killmaster do in this book? He has to go on a very dangerous mission to shut down some commie Chinese pornographers, who are making anti-capitalism smut films in the Hungarian countryside. They are also kidnapping women to be in these dirty dirty films, western, non-commie women. This is one of those missions only one man can possibly succeed at. It takes a trained killer to bring down some pornographers, and this is the worst thing the Commies have to throw at America. Yeah, it's that fucking serious.
Does it sound like I'm belittling the plot? Possibly making it sound less dangerous than it really is. I hope not, because the CIA agent who tried to take down these pornographers ended up was nothing more than a set of testicles in a box. What would the ladies of the world think if Killmaster lost his balls?
Trivia question one. Who owns the rights to Nick Carter (the name of Killmaster, not the boy band person who Killmaster could destroy by simply looking at him)? Conde Nast!! Thats right, the people who put out all those fashion magazines and own Vanity Fair in the late 60's were putting out stuff like this (along with the magazines? All of them? Some of them? I don't know and I'm so unable to google to find out, but I like to think that Vanity Fair, Christopher Hitchens, and Nick "Killmaster" Carter are all part of one big happy family).
Trivia question two. What is the best paragraph ever? That's easy.
Nick Carter ran.
More books need three word paragraphs, it makes narrative flow unhindered.
4. Its been a while since I have read a Nick Carter and I am 98% certain that I read this a very long time ago. It is of its time so definitely not a read for the woke amongst us. "One could not, without extreme revulsion, accept the perverted sexual antics of Blondie and Dagwood, Maggie and Jiggs, or watch the seduction of a willing Orphan Annie by a wolflike Daddy Warbucks. Yes, they had even stooped to that!"
Great fun. Plot is just crazy enough, action is balanced perfectly with some brain/leg work, sex descriptions are unforgettable and it's cool too. Front cover blurb from Buffalo News claims that "Nick Carter out-bonds James Bond!" but I would be a bit careful with such statement. The thing is that not everything goes according to Killmaster's plans. In fact more often than not his plans go to shit - he gets stuck in London almost abandoning the whole operation, after spending a million dollar on saving some girls their cover gets blown after one hour, Pam gets abducted and Nick himself is caught like an amateur when tailing some bad guys.
Could use a bit of a dialogue rewrite and few additional badass one-liners but nevertheless, it's pretty cool. I'll definitely check out more of the Lee Stokes' Nick Carter!
A nice rewrite of an old Pulp character. Recast more in the James Bond spy mode. Good quick men's adventure read. If you are looking for some fast paced action and adventure then this is a recommended read.
