Heart Solution for Women: A Proven Program to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease
Heart disease remains the number one killer of women, outpacing breast cancer, diabetes, and stroke, with one in four women receiving a diagnosis in her lifetime. And the problem is only getting worse. Dr. Mark Menolascino has been on the front lines of cardiac research for most of his life, running a highly successful clinic where he takes a holistic, personalized approach to reversing disease and jump-starting health. Most of his patients are women struggling with symptoms and illnesses that stem from the most important, life-giving organ in the body: the heart. In Heart Solution for Women , Dr. Menolascino explores the many ways our hearts are the pathway to overall health. While the classic risk factors for heart disease—obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stress, and poor diet—are critical components, symptoms of the disease manifest differently in women’s bodies and can go misdiagnosed for years. They include depression, anxiety and panic attacks, poor sleep, and widespread pain, and can be masked during pregnancy, post-pregnancy, and menopause only to appear with great force later in life. Featuring the latest research on gut, brain, and hormone health and including answers to the most common heart-health misunderstandings, Heart Solution for Women finally gives women the tools to succeed, feel great in their bodies, and add years to their lives.

Sometimes I like a few healthy eating tips like the ones I found in this book... Small changes can make a big difference. Eat more vegetables, etc.

Yes, he does promote his own supplements but we all know the drugstore variety of supplements can be quite inferior. Besides that, I found this book very educational, especially re the controversial topic of cholesterol lowering medications. Some excellent recommendations for preventing or addressing heart disease, specifically for women. I wish I’d read this years ago!

Most of this information I have heard from other sources, but he pulls it all together very well. Every woman should read it.

I found a good bit of information about the importance of eating properly, which was my main interest in picking up this book. Overall, I'd say it had a lot more information than I could digest, no pun intended. I didn't read it cover to cover, but selected sections that I felt could be helpful or interesting. Part II, "Your Body and Disease" included sections on Inflammation, The Functional Medicine Quartet: Heart, Genes, Brain, and Gut, and Healing Your Hormones. These were all elucidating.
The author's credentials are superb and I liked his manner of writing, as if he were having a personal conversation with the reader. He also is one of the first medical doctors I've read that repeated a tenet I find missing in other doctors, and that is we are all individuals. There is no one answer for everyone and he encourages readers to think for themselves and trust their own instincts about their body. Not everyone reacts in the same way to foods, drugs or other interventions.
I did get the feeling that there is a bit of "infomercial" in the book because he has his own clinic and sells products he's developed, but for someone who is in need of those resources not available to them elsewhere, it would be a service. There is also almost a glut of information here and I think I felt swamped. I am not ill, nor do I suspect I have any heart issues, but I am interested in maintaining good health. This wasn't the perfect book for me, but I gleaned enough to invigorate my choices to lead a healthy life.

I agree that inflammation is the #1 issue damaging our health today. I also agree that women have been flagrantly overlooked in studies regarding heart health and problems that cause heart problems in women. While the book says this is what it is about and almost all of the case studies in this book are about women, for the most part there is only a little that is totally specific to women in this book. That being said, I want to believe that by eating correctly, exercising correctly, paying attention to stress and sleep and social interaction that I can have a healthy heart (mind and body). Much of the book is similar to other books I've read recently about health but I did get a few tidbits of good information. Interestingly enough, he states that he doesn't believe in a lot of supplements.....only really good ones (that he sells) and then he proceeds to list about 25 that you should take or could take depending on the health issues you have or are trying to prevent and the medications you are trying to wean yourself off.

June 18, 2019The book comes with some useful information about improving or optimizing ones heart health. It is clear that Dr. Menolascino isn't forced to work with poor women, though! Imagine receiving the recommendation to take a week off and spend it in your favorite place for rest and rejuvenation. And for a new book, figures seemed out of touch for the week's worth of organic salad lunches. Purchasing supplements from reputable sources when living from paycheck to paycheck? Please.

The vast majority of the book was insightful and informative, however, I was disappointed that Dr. M follows more of a Mediterranean diet Vs. Plant based. I feel like I now understand much more about heart disease and have a better arsenal to fight off heart disease.

So much scary info on the state of women's health. It's hard to read and gave me a feeling of dread that I'm so far behind and helpless to catch up at my age. How horrible to feel that way in mid 50's. Especially when you think you live a fairly healthy lifestyle.

Some helpful information. Nothing all that surprising or revolutionary. Kind of a sales pitch for his supplements. I think the helpful information was only there so he wasn’t just selling supps.

Just a 300 pages advertisement for supplements

As I am no doctor, I cannot really give this book the correct evaluation, I am sure that it contains good insights and ask the right questions, but I have to admit that I do not agree on all the answers that were given, that said, it is always interesting looking to known stuff from another point of view.
