Growth IQ: Get Smarter About the Choices that Will Make or Break Your Business

A WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER

Do you know the best way to drive your company's growth? If not, it's time to boost your Growth IQ.

Trying to find the one right move that will improve your business's performance can feel overwhelming. But, as you'll discover in Growth IQ, there are just ten simple--but easily misunderstood--paths to growth, and every successful growth strategy can be boiled down to picking the right combination and sequence of these paths for your current context.

Tiffani Bova travels around the world helping companies solve their most vexing problem: how to keep growing in the face of stiff competition and a fast-changing business environment. Whether she's presenting to a Fortune 500 board of directors or brainstorming over coffee with a startup founder, Bova cuts through the clutter and confusion that surround growth.

Now, she draws on her decades of experience and more than thirty fascinating, in-depth business stories to demonstrate the opportunities--and pitfalls--of each of the ten growth paths, how they work together, and how they apply to business today. You'll see how, for instance:

* Red Bull broke Coca-Cola and PepsiCo's stranglehold on the soft drink market by taking the Customer Base Penetration path to establish a foothold with adventure sports junkies and expand into the mainstream.

* Marvel transformed itself from a struggling comic book publisher into a global entertainment behemoth by using a Customer and Product Diversification strategy and shifting their focus from comic books to comic book characters in movies.

* Starbucks suffered a brand crisis when they overwhelmed their customers with a Product Expansion strategy, and brought back CEO Howard Schultz to course-correct by returning to the Customer Experience path.

Through Bova's insightful analyses of these and many other case studies, you'll see why it can be a mistake to imitate strategies that worked for your competitors, or rely on strategies that worked for you in the past. To grow your company with confidence, you first need to grow your Growth IQ.

In the current world, growth seems to be getting harder. In this book Tiffani, has come up with 10 paths, in other words company strategies to enable your company to come up with a growth plan. The book takes you through these ten strategies as well as the context, combination (you may use more than one plan) and the sequence. These descriptions are backed up by customer examples, both positive and negative, so you will see examples of Netflix, Amazon, Red Bull, Kylie Jenner, Marvel, Starbucks, McDonald's. Plus sketch notes and important sentences are already underlined, which helps to break up the narrative and gives a "serious" book more of a "fun" feel.

I quite liked the book.
That said, slightly long and it actually hurt when, towards the end, a chapter on Purpose opened with a quote by Zuckerberg.

Some decent ideas but not that well executed/written (case studies were a great idea, but the structure of them was confusing). Good nuggets to be extracted, but while there was a lot of information it all seems very abstract/high-level and not immediately applicable.

Covering 10 pathways to restart or engage growth in your business, Tiffani Bova provides an actionable set of ideas along with stories of both success and failure to help you determine your own path forward. Sustaining growth is difficult for any business, and having a solid idea of possibilities and opportunities will allow the business leader to think about their own situation and develop a unique path forward. Well written, easy to read and useful, the book is a good addition to the executive's library.

Tiffani Bova has presented a unique approach to understanding how businesses grow and what the successful ones (and some not so successful) do to prevent or cure a growth stall. What makes this book stand out is Bova’s recognition that the most interesting and innovative ideas are at the boundaries of conventional strategies. The combination of growth strategies is where the magic and lie.

Great book for anyone seeking to understand how to build a business and keep it growing.

Innovation Evangelist Tiffani Bova using good stories and examples to discusses, ten paths to top line business growth. She uses examples and stories of leaders and companies exemplifying some and all of these techniques as part of their overall strategy. While it is worthwhile breaking down techniques into silos, the examples shown always resort to a combination of these 10 techniques.

Honestly this book has opened my eyes on so many things regarding the different growth paths for one’s business.
I find it so helpful to list different companies experiences and easier to learn from them than listing some facts.

For people wanting to start learning about different growth paths, definitely go for it and read this book!

If I see many remarks regarding this book, I think people need to understand that you read something for three reason:

Find something new to learn/talk about
Repeat something you already know

Or
Spend time for casual cause.

These book gave me really nice ideas of how to use what I forgot that I know it.

A must read for anyone involved in the growth of a business. I closed the back cover and handed it directly to my business partner. Fresh ideas and fantastic case studies, this is one that won’t be on the shelf because I will be referencing it for years to come.

Great business book. Easy read. Highly recommend for anyone involved in strategy & business planning. It reads very much like a next step to Crossing the Chasm. Lots of examples of companies following each growth path.

Beware of Over_simplification

The book provides basic 10 pathways which is good to have as reference.
However, the book is filled with oversimplification that may mislead readers to neglect the ultimate truth: knowledge doesn't guarantee appropriate application in reality

With her 10 paths, Tiffani provides a solid starting point for growing your business. Each path is well explained through real-world cases. However, if you’re an avid reader of business books, you may already be familiar with many of the examples used.

W porządku książka o wzroście biznesu, choć raczej dla czytelników, którzy nie mieli wcześniej większego pojęcia o temacie.

This book is a collection of case studies or sorts and not even as well written as a good case study. That said, the examples mentioned in the book are quiet pertinent.

This book will appeal more to those who have not been exposed to marketing concepts such as Ansoff's growth matrix, co-opetition and other commonly-used growth themes. The value of this book lies more in the selection of stories and how it relates to the concepts being presented. Being a marketer, its not as deep as I would have hoped but the insights are a good starting point to find gaps and areas which growth can be derived.

Good book with great examples. I really enjoyed reading about the real world case studies. I have grown fond of case studies as I feel success leaves a trail and case studies reveal it.

This is both a strength and a set back as I am not entirely sure which ones to use when all the time.
She mentions that the order and the timing are very important to the success of the implementation of the paths.

Nevertheless I learned alot and will come back to it for lessons. That I am sure.
