Dark Protectors #8

Vampire's Faith

The Dark Protectors are Back!

Vampire King Ronan Kayrs wasn’t supposed to survive the savage sacrifice he willingly endured to rid the world of the ultimate evil. He wasn’t supposed to emerge in this time and place, and he sure as hell wasn’t supposed to finally touch the woman who’s haunted his dreams for centuries. Yet here he is, in an era where vampires are hidden, the enemy has grown stronger, and his mate has no idea of the power she holds.

Dr. Faith Cooper is flummoxed by irrefutable proof that not only do vampires exist . . . they’re hot blooded, able to walk in sunlight, and shockingly sexy. Faith has always depended on science, but the restlessness she feels around this predatory male defies reason. Especially when it grows into a hunger only he can satisfy—that is if they can survive the evil hunting them both.

5 The Dark Protectors are back Stars

**Warning this review will contain copious amounts of Fangirling and a liberal sprinkling of curse words AKA **

OMFG to say I am a Rebecca Zanetti Fan would be a gross understatement. I FUCKING love Rebecca. Like crazy fangirl love! I haven't read a book from her that I didn't love. My favorite series of her is the Dark Protectors. I was so sad when the series ended. I went through serious withdrawals. I craved that shit bad! Did like 3 rereads, bought all the books in paperback so I could pet them, and then read the Realm Enforcer series just to get a little more time in the DP world. So when I heard that Rebecca Zanetti was bringing back the Dark Protector Series, well I may have had a fangirl freak out.

I seen Vampire Faith on Netgalley and prayed I would get it. When I seen I got it, I may have screamed a little bit. My ass may have danced around the house a some,*cough* lost my shit*cough* whatever. This book was so good. From page 1 it was a start to finish thrill ride. Ronan Kayrs was totally sexy and everything I have come to expect in a Kayrs male. Who is Ronan Kayrs you say? Well I'm not telling, but I can tell you that I fell madly in love with him. He was a major bad ass warrior, a protector, at times playful and all alpha! I loved his backstory. Dr. Faith Cooper was great too. I loved how smart, and brave she was. There was also a naive side to her that didn't want to believe there was pure evil in the world. Even though I really liked Faith I found myself at times annoyed with her rash decisions. I understood where she was coming from, but she made choices that endangered not just herself and Ronan but Garrett as well. No one messes with my mini Talen!

Ronan and Faith together were cute and at times reminded me a little of Talen and Cara. Which was cool because I love them. It was so good seeing Benny, Logan, Garrett, and Dage again. The plot was very good, and I can't wait to see where Rebecca takes this series. My only complaint was I would have liked more of the past couples to be in this book. I was hoping to see some interaction between the new characters and the originals. I just kept waiting for some Talen time. I wanted to see how Emma, Faith, and Kane got along. I was hoping to see a little family reunion. I have high hopes that my favorites will play a bigger part in the next book. Still overall this book was great. I started it last night and finished it this morning at 4am. I couldn't put it down.

Vampire King Ronan Kayrs and Dr. Faith Cooper

When Dr. Faith Cooper examines her new coma patient, she thinks that this is a practical joke and someone messes with her.
There is no way that this man, who looks like a warrior and had been buried under piles of rocks and cement from the tunnel cave-in below the Third Street bridge that happened nearly seven years ago, has been in a coma for longer than a couple of days!
But apparently this was not a joke.

“Faith... Gde, chert voz’mi, ya?”

As soon as Faith approaches and touches the patient, he wakes up and grabs her arm. The “patient”, i.e. Vampire King Ronan Kayrs, immediately recognises the woman of his dreams, his rightful mate. Unfortunately Faith does not really believe in vampires and supernatural beings.

This is how the new stories of Dark Protectors have started again this summer. With new characters and new adventures in the old well-known and well-established world of vampires, shifters, demons and witches. Some old characters are also present. Some from afar like King of the Realm, Dage Kayrs, and his brothers and friends and mates. Some are really part of the story like Garrett (Talen and Cara's son) and his cousin Logan.

There is also little Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood and Drake that appear to have a similar storyline to Janie and Zane's story (Marked -Dark Protectors #7). Possibly? We will see in next books.

I had a great time reading this book. A new enemy has appeared, so there is non-stop action and I have to admit that the new addition to the Kayrs family, Ronan, is yum.
Ronan is a badass alpha in protective mode.
Faith sometimes behaves like she is too stupid to live and she makes stupid rushed decisions like she is totally delusional and like no bad people exist in the world. I don't think I can forgive her that occasionally she trusted more the Kurjans than Ronan.

So, if you a fan of the series you will certainly love this book and wait for the next one. Like me :)
If you are a new reader, you will most probably enjoy this book that I am sure it can be read also as a standalone.

I’m really loving the world this author has created in her latest book of her Dark Protectors series. Between the vamps, demons, hybrids, Cyst and Kurjans, not to mention shifters and witches, I’m in paranormal heaven. In Vampire’s Faith, the history of these characters was entertaining and realistic, giving me insight into them and allowing me to feel like I was really getting to know them. Ronan absolutely made this story for me. He was my kind of hero - intelligent, heroic, protective, considerate, thoughtful, and such a sweetheart. I loved getting his perspective because I got to see not only his humor, but the awesomeness of his heart and his honest intentions towards his mate. As for Faith, I liked her for the most part. She had quite a few characteristics that made me admire her, such as her intellect, loyalty for her sister, compassion, and her determination to help and heal those who need her. However, there were one too many reasons why I couldn’t be her biggest fan and she alone is the reason why this book didn’t get all the stars.

Oh Faith... the many ways you got on my nerves...

⭐⭐⭐ I think there is a marked difference between spunky, fierce and independent heroines and ones that are sullen, immature and illogical. Faith was a respected doctor, which means she not only completed post-secondary education, but she also went through med school, completed her practicals, overcame her residency, and attained her certification/licensing as a medical doctor. That alone leads me to believe that she has not only intelligence, but also some sort of wisdom, if not common sense. So why is it that she could acknowledge how profound Ronan’s strength was, how inept and unprepared she was against his enemies, but consistently felt it necessary to think that she could take care of herself? What gave her this idea? And after it was proven that she indeed wasn’t capable THE FIRST TIME, why did she insist on persisting with this theme? There’s stubborn and then there’s stupid. Unfortunately, the brilliant doctor was the latter.

⭐⭐⭐ For a seemingly smart woman, Faith asked the most asinine questions and pondered the most idiotic thoughts. You know nothing of the immortal world. You didn’t even know it existed until Ronan entered your life. Yet when you ask him a question and he gives you the answer, you still believe you know more than him. He’s lived for more than 1000 years. Has had far more experience dealing with his enemies than you have. Has observed nature for far longer than you have. But you KNOW everything right? Because while he was gone, his enemies that you DID NOT know existed before now, must have evolved right? Let’s broker some peace with the race of people who killed your brothers and are attempting to kill you. Makes sense right? Because they could be good people. GAH!!

⭐⭐⭐ Faith doubted everything that Ronan told her. Despite the fact that his actions showed her, time and time again, how much she meant to him, the lengths he was willing to go to in order to keep her safe, and that his affections were true, he must be a liar. Why else would his enemies tell her so? It couldn’t POSSIBLY be because his enemies realized that she’s a fool and have their own agenda. Nope, let’s not use our brains.

⭐⭐⭐ This woman is constantly surprised at the greatness of Ronan and his brothers. Each time he does something otherworldly, she’s flabbergasted. It’s not like he didn’t spend the majority of the book doing the seemingly impossible. It’s not like she didn’t accept that he was IMMORTAL.

⭐⭐⭐ I get wanting to be treated as an equal by your partner. I’m all for it. However, if my partner is an immortal that can only be killed by complete decapitation, a male who can heal his injuries by sending healing cells to the spot, meaning gunshot wounds, hits by swords, and bomb blasts cannot destroy him as long as his head is still attached, I’m going to accept that my human self is no match. I will accept that there are areas where we can be equals and others that I’ll leave in his capable hands. I WILL NOT argue for equality when it comes to battle. It will take nothing to end my life. This chick kept saying that he couldn’t tell her what to do. I wanted him to take her word for it and leave her fate up to her. Let her stand in the way of a rocket blast or machine gun fire and see how her life fares.

⭐⭐⭐ She constantly gets mad and rebels against Ronan’s orders. He only commands her to keep her safe and she is constantly arguing and putting herself in danger in order to assert her independence when she has shown absolutely NO CAPABILITIES THUS FAR to prove that she can withstand the dangers they are all facing. She would put herself in danger, then rely on Ronan to rescue her, which he would do. She kept making him jeopardize his mission and at times jeopardized the lives of the ones who came before her, his family, who were the ones who were even willing to help her and protect her in the first place. Who does that? Faith does. She was selfish, childish, and irresponsible.

Wow, this review ended up being loooong!! Obviously I’m still a bit upset about Faith. My rant is over (for now). Luckily she wasn’t the end all to be all of this story. There was so much else to like and so many more characters to love. The men who make up The Seven have me entirely too excited to read more about them, but I’m not complaining because I have loved what I’ve read so far. If you love a story rich in friendships, family, love, and plenty of action, with an intricate and compelling plot, then you’ll want to add this series to your to-read list as much as I do.

4.5 - "Forget everything you think you know..." Stars!

We return to the Dark Protectors universe for book 8 in my favorite ever Rebecca Zanetti series. I have to admit I wondered how she would manage to glean more full length books from a series that had already been pretty much been fully explored, but with a unique twist, a little artistic license and a having previously spent a few hundred years locked away in a sphere in another realm we are now introduced to Ronan Kayrs.

The guy was sexy on a sexy stick of pure melted sexiness…

I don’t think I have ever made a secret of the fact that this series is my all-time favorite. The read the original books whilst going through a pretty dark time, and they were one of the few highlights of it. Who knew a war between Vampires and Demons could turn into someone’s happy place! But for me, you just have to say the surname Kayrs and it will produce a smile.

"I spent four hundred years seeing your face and feeling your soft touch in my dreams…"

For me this series is also the most consistent from the author when it comes to the quality of writing, characters, and story-lines, and for that reason I did start Vampires Faith with a little trepidation, we all know the phrase; 'flogging a dead horse' and I have to admit I did wonder if this return to the series was based more on keeping milk flowing from a well proven 'cash cow' rather than having anything more relevant to add to what has already been a series that will be hard to top.

He needed to know her better before he could woo her.

I with the premise of this book, the new characters introduced (as well as a few we already know) and the bigger story arc the author has opened there is a high chance that the forthcoming books will offer enjoyable additions, Vampires Faith itself was enjoyable, you get the usual character traits from Rebecca in that Ronan, is deliciously alpha, a little old fashioned, and a lot growly, and as usual Faith is no shy, retiring violet. The secondary characters were developed enough to make you eager for their own personal stores in future books and the introduction of the little known Kurgan-cyst and the plot surrounding their leader is likely to be the mainstay of the backstory for the entirety of the series.

"The foreplay was nice and all that, but you have no claim on me."

There were however some glaring similarities from the original series, in a way that felt like the author is essentially recycling a few tropes that were popular from it, and I have to say that one of my gripes that seems to flare up every couple of books is the characterization of the leading heroine. I find there is a fine line between confidence and independence in a woman, before its steps into dumbass-big-headed-arrogance territory, and we were bordering on that a couple of times with Faith’s behaviour in this book. That-said it wouldn’t have been the story it was if she hadn’t done a few of the things she did, but it’s the reluctance to take responsibility for your fuck-ups that is what mainly grates on this readers nerves.

"You beat here and always will. Everything I am or will ever be is yours…"

All-in-all a really good start. I’m glad to be back in this world, and I am pretty sure that the more this story arc develops the more of the original Kays clan will be included in its telling. I look forward to seeing how things play out in future books.

I'm so ecstatic that we get to dive back into the Dark Protectors world again. I binge read this series last year and had a blast with all the characters and the wild ride this author took us on.

While she could have just ended the series, there were so many possibilities for it to be picked back up. I love that she choose to do that...or maybe that was her plan all along. Either way, I'm very happy to see more of all my favorite characters.

In Vampire's Faith we get Ronan and Faith's story. I have to admit, I was racking my brain trying to remember who Ronan was even though I just read this series not long ago. I know all the Kayrs so why can't I remember him??? Well, that's because his identity was kept secret so don't fret if you can't remember him either.

I won't give too much away here but you learn where Ronan's been and why he's just now coming into the story. Just know he's 100% pure alpha these Kayr's males are known to be. Dang! I love that caveman mentality! He had me chuckling quite a bit when Faith tries to bring him up to date to the 21st century.

Faith. Oh Faith. I love a good strong heroine in my stories but sometimes that stubbornness is a bit much. If you have read this series then you are used to that in the leading female characters. If I had to guess, I think this author does this so she can shows us how these protective males go all alpha on their butts, which I have to admit I enjoy very much.

This has so many great new characters as well as seeing a lot of the previous characters. I believe we are gearing up for Hope and Drake with plenty of possibilities in between. I can't wait!

After reading

I am really sorry to say I didn't like it. I really love the Dark Protectors series, but this one really didn't feel like a part of that series. Sure, some of the characters made an appearance, but there wasn't that familiar connection, you know?

But the main reason I didn't like it is because I couldn't stand either of the main characters. The book started off fine: Ronan Kayrs waking up from a coma after 1000 years or so, Faith a human who doesn't know anything about the supernatural world. But it didn't take long for me not to like Faith. She made such incredibly stupid decisions, and even when she was CLEARLY WRONG, she would get mad and insulted when Ronan and the others got understandably upset with her, claiming it was some sort of sexist reaction. I mean really, I think most of the book's conflicts are caused by her being an idiot!

And then there was Ronan, who I gave more of a chance to evolve because, you know, waking up from a 1000 year coma has to be hard on a guy. But he just never changed enough for me to like him. Sure, Talen was a caveman, but he wasn't a DICK about it, you know?

When you put these two together, I just didn't get any sense of chemistry. Sure, they were attracted to each other, but I really only know that because I was told that. But besides the physical, I didn't get any sense that they even really liked each other. All they did was fight, and then Faith would run away. It was irritating and exhausting.

All that said, I'm still looking forward to Logan's book. I hope once we get back to characters we know and love things will be better. I think this overarching plot with the Cysts (weird name tho) is okay, though I think the beauty of the series before was that it had such a unique problem with the virus. But whatever. I'm sure Rebecca Zanetti will make it interesting.

Lastly, all I really have to say about Hope is that I miss baby Janie. Strangely enough, Hope seems even more serious and put upon than Janie ever was as a child. We could always see that even though Janie had the weight of the world on her shoulders she always found joy in the small things, like painting her uncles' nails pink. We're getting none of that with Hope, and this is supposedly peace time. I also really hope we're not heading into a love triangle thing with Pax and Drake. Anyway, that's all I've got. I'm going to pretend most of this book didn't happen (mostly the relationship part).

OH! And audio sidenote: where's Karen White at??? Get her butt back at the Dark Protectors because this chick ain't cutting it. White wasn't perfect but she was better than whoever the fuck this girl is. She said "Talen" like "talon"... which is wrong!

Before Reading

I’m sorry WHAT?!?!!??!???

YES!!!

Vampire's Faith by Rebecca Zanetti
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense
4.5 Stars

It has been awhile since I read this series & at the beginning of this story I was a bit confused.
A few chapters in and my confusion of who Vampire King Ronan Kayrs is no longer mattered.
The story and characters had sucked me in enough that I was able to put my confusion on the back burner.

Not only is Ronan & his circumstances amazing and intriguing, but Dr. Faith Cooper is impressive and well written.
While I will note Faith had one really big TSTL moment, she is a firecracker and very intelligent.
Both were very easy to connect to.

Together they created Fiery and Steamy moments.
Very Intimate Adult Moments.

They also gave me chuckles, grins and laughter.
When you read what Faith first thinks Ronan & the Kurjans are you will grin & at the same time think, 'That Makes Sense'!

The suspense and action kept me interested and was very well done.
A ton of action spiced with the mystery of just who Ronan & his 'Brothers' are.

However......
Some of the action was a bit 'Overplayed'.
There were sections that were 'Wordy' and a bit repetition..
These areas gave the story an unnatural feel and interfered with the flow of the story.
It cost the story a half star.

Since I round down that became a full star.

There was one other element that had me scratching my head and just a wee bit annoyed. Unfortunately it would be a spoiler if I but what that is in my review, soooo. I'm going to leave that lay.

I loved reading this story. It was great getting back into the 'The Dark Protectors' series.
I will be reading the next book in this series 'Very, Very Soon'!

I loved being back in Zanetti's Dark Protectors world, her alpha vampires are just something else and Ronan is up there with the best of them. I was pulled in to the DP world without it feeling forced, I thought after finishing the last book in the series I was done, but nope - she's given us a bunch of new and intriguing characters, along with some clever world building.

Ronan is delicious, an old soul having woken up from a coma in this century. And what a caveman lol. Unfortunately he got saddled with Faith, and therein lies my problem. There's TSTL then there's dumb morons then there's FAITH. 🙄 Sorry, but I have zero tolerance for TSTL. RZ seems to saddle her delish alpha males with these cray-cray TSTL women which kind of spoils my reading experience, but not enough that I won't be reading the next book because ... Logan!

4 1/2 "Welcome to the New World" Stars!

I loved it! I am so excited to back in the Dark Protectors world!! If you're already a fan, you will love this new plot line and new world building. If you've never tried this series, this is a great place to start as this reads very much like a spin-off.

There was lots of action, new heros and new bad guys plus a decent romance! Ronan was fantastic, a wee bit vulnerable in the beginning, but always a total alpha protector BA. Faith was ok IMO. She was sweet, and devoted to her sister, but she made me mad. This was almost 5 stars for me!

I absolutely cannot wait for the next book! It will probably be a year. That stinks because I've never had to wait on a new release in this series. Sometimes it's not good being caught up. 😆 It will be worth it. Happy reading!

This author always manages to tell an amazing story, full of equally amazing characters. I loved Ronan and meeting the rest of the Seven has definitely piqued my interest. I read this from start to finish and was sad to see it end. The wait for the next installment will be intense!

The fight against evil is gearing up again and the Seven will be called up to fight with all they’ve got to protect the free world. Which will be a bit hard, considering the Seven are missing a few members and aren't exactly at the top of their game . . .

The shield erected to lock in a crazy evil that can't be killed, has fallen and Ronan has found himself thrust back into the present with no idea where the other Seven are or what happened to break the shield he’d been charged to protect. After hundreds of years powering the walls of the shield, and dreaming of the mate he’d never get to meet, he isn’t complaining when Faith appears before him in the present. With her by his side, he’s got nothing but motivation to reassemble the Seven and rebuild the shield to keep evil locked away from the world one more time.

Faith at first thinks Ronan is a bit crazy, talk of magic, teleportation and evil monks isn’t really an every day topic of conversation for her. Sure she can kind of telepathically communicate with coma patients but that’s more intuition than real magic, right?

It doesn’t take Faith long to realize that Ronan is exactly what he claims to be, a hybrid vampire/demon warrior, and that there is real evil out there, at a level she never could have imagined. But with the ever rising danger, there’s also enormous possibilities. With Ronan’s healing powers, strength and endurance, the doctor in Faith can’t help but ponder what medical miracles are just waiting to be discovered. Especially if something can come of it that will save her own coma-ridden baby sister.

But being thrust into Ronan’s world is blurred again when outside forces feed Faith opposing information. Who can she trust? And when her sister’s life is threatened, will Ronan choose to help Faith protect her or will his mission and the Seven derail it all?

I loved this book and it was a perfect example of why I read PNR. It has so much room to expand and reimagine things, and RZ is a master at this. I instantly liked Ronan and although Faith took a bit longer to grow on me and I ended up liking her a lot too. At times her ulterior motives for being with Ronan put a damper on their romance. It also got a bit frustrating that she was so easily swayed by others only because they said what she desperately wanted to hear. It was such a contradiction to her independent and smart persona. That was the only teeny tiny issue I had but overall, I loved her and Ronan together and their story was kick ass!

Favorite Line:
There's something about a guy talking about their future kids that always gets me.
Man, she was stubborn. Their sons would be a pain in his a$$, he was sure. He couldn't wait to meet them.
~ Ronan

Memorable Moments:
Ronan's first interaction with Siri, it might be cliched and it might be a bit silly but I love the whole technology introduction. Ronan and Siri were gold for me.

Would I recommend? This was packed with action, suspense, great family ties and crazy ott insta-love but I loved it. It was a great read and I would definitely recommend it.

I’m not a fan of long series. I like to get in and out and move on to the next group of characters. However, I fell in love with this author’s Dark Protectors a long time ago and over the last year, I fell even harder as I dove into this and the Realm series. Needless to say, when I learned there would be a new book I was ecstatic!

Faith is a neurologist whose specialty is working with coma patients. Her own history has led her down this path and now it’s leading her to a strange occurrence happening within the hospital. Ronan has spent the last thousand years in a prison to protect his people from evil. Somehow the shields have fallen and he has been released. The first thing he sees when he awakens is the woman he has dreamed of. His mate.

This is a huge possessive, protective alpha hero and a determined, I’m going to do it my way, heroine. They clash and battle but ultimately they are drawn to each other. While Faith has a hard time wrapping her scientific mind around what she is being told, she trusts what she sees with her eyes. Now she is caught up in a battle against time in order to save the Enhanced and prevent the rest of the shields from falling.

While I enjoyed this, a lot, I was a bit aggravated at Faith’s persistence that Ronan would not tell her what to do. I understood her, but it started to feel a bit childish. Despite that, I loved the chemistry between this couple. It was hot and fiery and dang but the people around them have the worse timing!

Ronan having no knowledge of the world around him was adorable and a bit quirky. It made him cute and endeared him to me early on. I did think he needed to hash things out with Faith by communicating rather than demanding, but hey, he’s a Kayrs and that’s just the way they roll.

There is a ton of action in this story and some old friends as well as new that are introduced. This story made me feel like I was sliding on a pair of well-worn and comfortable slippers as this author takes us back into the realm of vampires, dragons, witches and shifters. Not all show up here but I have no doubt we’ll be seeing them in the books that follow and I’m all over that!

I am absolutely over the moon that this author has returned to this world and the joy of knowing the Dark Protectors series is set to continue makes this reader ecstatic.
Ronan sacrificed himself to contain a truly evil despot in a prison dimension but now Ronan finds himself free and in a future he never imagined. For years his sanity was saved by dreams of the woman who could be his Mate and yet here she is alive, real and meant for him.
Faith as a doctor is used to control but the handsome and clearly confused patient just won't listen to her. Being kidnapped by him and introduced to a world she never believed could exist is just the start of Faiths encounter with the supernatural predators that hide amongst us . Faith will do anything to protect her sister Grace who is in a coma but the Vampires might not have Graces best interests at heart !
I loved Ronan so confused initially, so gallant and so very protective. Faith I understood but boy did I want to shake her at times. Bottom line is there are new enemies to fight but the author includes a few of our old favourites making this a worthy continuation of the series. Fast, sexy and imaginative what more could I ask for ?
This voluntary opinion is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

Dr. Faith Copper was called in on a special coma case at a local hospital. She is world renowned expert in reaching the unreachable coma patient and bringing them back to consciousness. But never in her life did she have a patient wake up and call her name.

Ronan is a vampire and a member of an elite force that is set on protecting their world. Sacrificing himself to a life living in an alternate reality, Ronan never thought he’d have a chance at being with his true mate until she wakes him into a world he no longer recognizes. But he recognizes Faith immediately from his dreams, his mate.

Top-notch paranormal romance writer, Rebecca Zanetti strikes again with another uber alpha meets his match in Vampire's Faith. What an amazing adventure, spectacular rollercoaster ride from start to finish!

I received this ARC copy of Vampire's Faith from Kensington Books - Lyrical Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Vampire's Faith is set for publication June 19, 2018.

4 stars!

I am a mad fan of Rebecca Zanetti and her Dark Protectors series, and I loved being back in this world! This book is a bit of a series reboot in that it ties in to the Dark Protectors series, while creating a new, exciting and absolutely fascinating story arc that can standalone from the original story. Though Dark Protectors fans will be completely blissed out at the cameos, and the incredibly well-crafted connections to the original story.

This series introduces us to The Seven. A group of powerful supernaturals, bound together as brothers, that mystically protect the world from a great evil. Super-strong vampire Ronan Kayrs (who we are meeting for the first time) is one of the Seven and he sacrificed his life to create and maintain an alternate dimension to trap a powerful kurjan. For hundreds of years he existed in that world, until it unexpectedly shattered and he awakens in a hospital bed in modern times with no idea where or when he is. But he instantly recognises his beautiful doctor as the woman he has been dreaming of.

Faith is a well-known and respected doctor who specialises in patients in comas. Strong, intelligent and fiercely independent, she is protective of her loved ones, but is very much alone in the world. When she is brought in to consult on a case, she has no idea what she is in for when her gorgeous patient awakens and turns her world on its head.

“I spent four hundred years seeing your face and feeling your touch in my dreams.”

Squee!! I love the intensity that comes with a supernatural mating!! Ronan knows that Faith is his destined mate, but Faith has no idea about the supernatural world or her place in it, setting up a great dynamic as he claims her and drags her along on his mission. He has to find his ‘brothers’, figure out what happened to the bad guy and learn about the new world he’s in – all while trying to win over his mate.

Why wasn’t she cooperating? He stood to his full height. “I am Ronan Kayrs of the Kayrs ruling family. Obey me, woman.”
She snorted.
He gaped. What had happened to the world he’d protected?

I loved the story of The Seven. Their secretive role in the paranormal world is intriguing and exciting, the guys themselves are a fascinating bunch that I can’t wait to get to know better, and their bond of brotherhood is both beautiful and hilarious.

“My line has died out here?” Ronan asked quietly. There were no Kayrs members protecting the world?
“No,” Benny said. “There’s a shit-ton of you assholes running around.”

And just as funny is Ronan’s insistence on claiming his woman, despite her objections.

“You will choose to mate me, and it will be for no other reason than you will want to be my mate.”
The audacity of the man. “Want to bet?” she burst out.
“Absolutely,” he said instantly. “Whoever wins gets to name our firstborn.”

There’s a whole lot going on as we are introduced to a new bunch of characters, and their fight against evil – a new brand of creepy kurjans called the cyst. And it’s wonderfully tied in to the Dark Protectors series with character crossovers that are ingeniously established and fit in perfectly to this new and exciting world, while still staying true to the original series.

And then there’s the love story. It’s intense and full of chemistry, heat and sexual tension, as always, with moments of beautiful swoon.

“Just because you can’t explain something doesn’t mean it isn’t true.” Then he grasped her wrist and tugged her slightly toward him, flattening her palm over his thorax. “You feel my heart. For centuries, even when I thought I’d sacrificed my life, this has beat for you. Every second, of every minute, of every day, of every year…”

And now the reason why this book didn’t get 5 stars – because OMG, Faith drove me crazy! Her lack of faith (no pun intended) in Ronan was so frustrating. I get that she’s new to the supernatural world and her scientist’s mind is full of doubt, but the constant questioning and back and forth got tiring. And her actions towards the end of the book made me want to throttle her. Seriously, the woman could not get any stupider, and though the end of the book was full of action, excitement and suspense, I read the whole thing in a sense of disbelief and so much fury at Faith that it dulled what could have been a truly epic ending to the story. It’s a testament to how much I love Ronan, and how good the story is, that the heroine could piss me off so much yet I still absolutely loved the book.

“I love you.” He placed her hand over his chest. “You beat here and always will. Everything I am or will ever be is yours.”

This is a really strong start to an exciting new series, and an exciting continuation for Dark Protectors fans. The newly introduced characters are fantastic, and characters that we know but always wanted more of will all have their chance to have their stories told and I cannot wait! There are a number of future storylines set up in this book, and I am so excited for this series to continue.

I loved it!

4 stars (but would have been 5 with a less annoying heroine)

The DARK PROTECTORS have returned and the author brings this back with a bang. I honestly didn't know what to expect from this book and this one is so different from the previous books. Of course, I haven't read the novella's or anything yet, which I probably should since I did become confused a bit by this whole new type of scenario and set of characters. This setting is completely different from the previous books. So if you read from Fated to Marked....you are in one heck of a ride with this book because this book blew my expectations out of the water.

Vampire's Faith is a story that begins with our heroine, Dr. Faith Cooper who is investigating her new patient who is in a coma. She is shocked by his health and the fact that he doesn't fit the 'norm' but when he wakes up and claims that they are mates ....Faith is appalled and thinks he isn't sane. Even though Faith feels the connection that is between them, she is a woman of science. Ronan Karys, a member of the seven and the vampire king who has been imprisoned and just forced his way to freedom. For over four hundred years, he has dreamed of Faith and now she is real in front of him. But with enemies on their footsteps, he will do everything to claim her and protect her and her sister.

Vampire's Faith is such a vibrant story that really impacts the psyche in such a unique way. And let me warn you if you don't like a powerful alpha male, this book is NOT for you. Especially if you haven't read this author before, she writes some of my favorite type of alpha males. And boy he is no pansy that is for sure. I really loved how sensual this book became, Ronan is one sexy beast that is for sure and knows how to work Faith in all the right ways. She is a tough cookie, and isn't going to just believe this 'mating' and causes some fun sexual tension that builds between these two. I did struggle a bit with the heroine because she takes a while before she starts giving into her emotion and I just felt like she is a bit naive at times especially at the end there. But she does learn her own way and we see her talents come shining in such a memorable way.

Overall I found Vampire's Faith to be a stunning book that brings me back to the delightful Dark Protector's and love this "Seven" and this story brings back sizzling chemistry and such captivating storytelling...

3.5 stars

I have been a big fan of the Dark Protectors series for many years. I adore the Kayrs family and all the characters of the Realm. So imagine my excitement when I found out there would be more stories coming, and the first up is Ronan Kayrs. Who the heck is Ronan I asked the same question and when I read the book I loved the answer. Ronan was awesome, he was everything that is a Kayrs family member. I loved the direction the story is going in and I loved the familiarity of Garrett and Logan. Now the reason for my 3.5 stars is because I completely disliked Faith. She was childish, impulsive and TSTL, all traits that I dislike in my female leads. She actually ruined my enjoyment of the story. Another problem I had with the story is that Ronan didn't see his family. I would have prefered more involvement from Dage and his brothers. Now with that said I'm looking forward to Logan's book.

I Am so Sorry but I did not like this new arch to the Dark Protector series. Marked bk.7 was suppose to be the end of the Dark Protector series published in 2014 and it was a Excellent ending to a great series. RZ should have left it there, because with Vampire Faith it is obvious she has knowing new to add to the series.

Ronan and Faith are always running under constant attack. Faith is a very unlikable heroine. The Good Guys are getting there butts kicked and all they do is run. The storyline has no Focal Point its sort of all over the place. We have new childhood friends that meet in the Dream World just like Janie and Zane but now its there daughter Hope. Faith is always fighting and arguing with Ronan . Instead of being supportive. She is just unlikable.

The Dark Protector series use to be one of my favorites and books 1-7 will stay on my favorite list but I won't be wasting my time or money on the newer books in the Dark Protector series.

Rebecca Zanetti continues her sizzling hot Dark Protectors series with the story of vampire Ronan Kayrs and Dr. Faith Cooper.

Imagine Faith’s surprise at learning that vampires exist when she was asked to help a patient in a coma who wakes up the moment she enters the room. She’s a woman of knowledge and science but the irrefutable fact that the sexiest male she’s ever come across has fangs and she’s absolutely attracted to him. His existence has skewed her worldview and now she’s not just struggling with this overbearing male but she’s also running for her life.

When Ronan sacrificed himself to protect the world from evil hundreds of years ago he thought his life was forfeit, never thinking he could one day be able to touch the woman who was intended to be his mate. Centuries later when he wakes up, she’s right there next to him. She’s everything he dreamed of. Beautiful, smart, and caring. She’s also challenging and skeptic of him and the new world he’s introduced her to. Can he convince her to trust him before she puts her trust in the wrong species? Can he win over her heart a midst the threats surrounding them?
“You will choose to mate me, and it will be for no other reason than you want to be my mate.”
The audacity of the man. “Want to bet?” she burst out.
“Absolutely,” he said instantly. “Whoever wins gets to name our firstborn.”

Vampire’s Faith is full of Rebecca Zanetti’s signature traits – stubborn independent heroine, strong familial bonds, page turning action, appealing characters, a determined alpha male and delicious sexy times.
“Who are you>”
“I’m Siri. But enough about me… how can I help you?”

Ronan and Faith square off more often than not due to Faith’s, well, lack of faith in Ronan. Yet he’s exceedingly patient and shrewd. He didn’t miss a beat and with Siri’s help he conquered modern civilization. Capturing Faith’s heart and keeping her safe was a completely different story but I loved every single time his alpha showed throwing caution to the wind whenever Faith’s safety was danger. Another swoon worthy book boyfriend thanks to RZ.

The new world building is fabulous. Built upon the existing Dark Protectors framework, the story crackles when unknown bad guys are put into play and new characters are introduced expertly joining favorite individuals from previous books making this an exciting and sexy read with a splash a humor that will hook you from start to finish and leave you wanting more.

Vampire’s Faith is book #8 of the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti. It is an exciting standalone paranormal romance, told from various points of view with a happy ending.

This was one of the most unexpected squee-inducing surprises of the year. I had no idea the Dark Protectors series was going to get a second season and keep going with a new series arc. I thought the grand finale book was great when it came in book seven, but a chance to delve back into this fantastic paranormal romance world was not one I could miss.

Vampire's Faith is, as I said earlier, a whole new series arc. It introduces new characters, particularly Ronan Kayrs and the concept of The Seven. I suppose a person could jump in if they don't mind missing all the back story especially when familiar faces show up, but I thought it worked best coming on the heels of the others. It is a new story arc and new names are brought out so... maybe.

Ronan is great-uncle to the Kayrs in the first part of the series and he's been off with his brothers fighting evil in another realm by holding a big baddie in a prison of sorts in this other dimension. But, something happens, the Seven have lost members, and he wakes up back on earth and several centuries into the future. This is always a fun concept for me because then I get to see someone have to discover the modern world. Ronan was a great hero and an alpha to the core, but getting used to a new day and age had him on his off foot for a while. He has a job to do now that the prison in the other dimension is down and he's ready to do it. He wakes up to find his dream woman mate is right there in all her skeptical and dismissive glory, but Ronan is up to the task of breaking down Faith's barriers because she's his.

That brings me to Faith. Erm, yes... heroines, particularly ones who ironically have no faith even if her name is Faith and like to pull a stubborn-stupid now and then to keep things dangerous and exciting for everyone, are something of a struggle. Faith has a gift with coma patients and her heart is in learning all she can because her beloved sister is in a coma. She will do anything to save her sister- and that's where all that stubborn-stupid comes in. She is pretty skeptical about Vampires and the whole paranormal world out there until denial becomes ridiculous in the face of the deadly danger they encounter.

I liked Roman and Faith as a couple once she stopped resisting so hard and things get pretty hot and bothered with this pair. But, I think I preferred the action moments more so than the romance. It was good, but not riveting. I felt the stronger part of the story was all the pieces rather one element over another if that makes sense.

Before I started reading, I did have that moment when I wondered if these could be just as engaging and action-packed with a worthy enemy and tense situation as the earlier stories. No worries, it kept me clicking pages fast and getting right into it. I was all in especially when a few crossover characters from earlier books like Janie's brother, Garrett. I like what is sizing up with this group of Seven and the threat they have to deal with. That said, I'm in a wait and see about the dreamwalking stuff in one of the secondary plot threads with girl encountering the bad boy in her dream state and everyone saying he's bad, but she doesn't think so. I don't want to see a carbon-copy of Janie and Zane's story. Hopefully, it will have its own twist when it comes out.

So, excitement continues to reign as I now look forward to the next installment in this revitalized and new direction for the Dark Protectors. Paranormal Romance lovers who like good action and strong-willed heroes, here you go.

I rec'd this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

ARC REVIEW

Dark Protectors #8, They're back baby! With all new characters and bad guys along with some familiar faces. This is the start to a new story arc and can be the starting point, but honestly there are introductions to some characters that would make more sense if you have read the previous books. First and foremost I hated Faith. Her character just royally pissed me off she bordered on TSTL, and I hate that term so I don't use it lightly. I can go on and on about how and why I hate Faith but instead I'm going to talk about how much I loved everything else about this book. I love the idea of The Seven, a secret group that was created to protect everything from this great big bad. A big bad so evil they were barely able to contain it the first time. Ronan and one of his brother's volunteered to be the guardians of his prison in another realm, but seven years ago something happened and it knocked Ronan out of his bubble he's been in a coma ever since...until she walks in the room. Dr. Faith Cooper is a neurologist who has a special connection to people who are in a coma. She got called in to consult with a John Doe when she first sees him she assumes it's joke, no way that perfect specimen of a man could have been in a coma for seven years, and then he wakes up and starts talking crazy and then kidnaps her. Faith's life has spiraled out of control and she doesn't know who to trust, Ronan and his overbearing alpha maleness who keeps saying she's his mate or Dayne who says the exact opposite of whatever Ronan says but may have a way to bring her sister out of her coma either way her life will never be the same again.

Overall, aside from my hatred of Faith I really did enjoy this book, Zanetti is great with action and romance and this one got pretty hot. I can't wait for Logan's book or Adare's book. Zanetti has created book crack with this series she gets you hooked and there's no turning back. I can't wait to find out more about The Seven and the evil Kurjans and what's going to happen with Hope.

The Dark Protectors are back with a new story arc!!!

First, I want to say that I love Rebecca Zanetti's books. I won an advanced copy of Vampire's Faith from Goodreads.

At first I was really confused trying to figure out who Ronan was in relation to the Kayrs males that we already knew, but as I read this new book, it became clear just how he fit within the family. My biggest fear was that this book was taking place in a future where all the characters that we know and love were all dead and gone. Thank goodness that wasn't the case.

Vampire's Faith has all the elements of what I love about the Dark Protectors series. It was kinda like the series was rebooted all over again, while continuing forward with the current storyline. We're just entering a new story arc in the same world. And this new arc has opened up the possibility of a lot of new books to come.

I really liked the hero, Ronan Kayrs. It was fun watching him catch up with the advancements in technology since he's been gone. It gave the book a real time-travel feel.

As for the heroine, Dr. Faith Cooper, she really pissed me off! I hate when the heroine does something that makes her seem too stupid to live. I understand that she would risk anything to save her only family, but she had no clue how to deal with the immortal world so why go off on her own with so little chance of success? Yeah, there was a time constraint, but waiting for or seeking out help would definitely increase the odds of success. All she did was make things worse.

The only thing that would have made this book better would have been a reunion of Ronan with the rest of his family. But at least we got to see him meet and get to know Garrett Kayrs. But I should've expected Ms. Zanetti to draw out an anticipated reunion for as long as possible. It's what she does.

All things considered, this was an excellent read, and I can't wait until the next book, which I'm guessing will be about Ivar and not Faith's sister, Grace, as most people would think.

YIPEEEEE!!!
I was stoked...I WON this baby and couldn't devour it fast enough.
It made my heart happy venturing BACK to the wondrous world Zanetti has created.
This teeters at the top of my all-time-favorite PRN series for good reason. Zanetti does alpha male versus alpha female soooo well. All of the brothers are badass and their mates have always made me cheer. Sadly, Dr. Faith Cooper doesn't make the cheer-worthy list. She pissed me off...lots. *grumbles*
I was a bit perplexed when we meet Ronan. He is a Kayrs...but we've never heard of him before? Yep. That's right.
He's part of a the super-secret Seven.
He is the great great Uncle to the King and his brothers. Whoa. That's trippy. Where has he been? I'll tell you- locked in another dimension, with his brother, attempting to contain a great evil. But...his shield is shattered and....he awakens from a deep sleep. This new world he returns to is crazy different. But despite all of the unknowns he is certain of one thing, he has found his mate. She plays the blurred lines game extremely well, perhaps too well.
I loved the new players brought to the game.
I LOVED having Garrett and Logan step into the limelight.
I freaking adored Ronan. But...I had issues with his woman.
I also struggled with the extreme similarities with Janie and her dreamworld. Hope is following in her mother's footsteps and I'm not sure how I felt about this...rerun part of the plot.

I'm intrigued.
I was entertained.
But...it wasn't the best in the series by far.
There are several threads and it's not clear which one picks up next.
Even though I was slightly perturbed, you can bet your bottom dollar I will jump on the next one as soon as it's released.
The possibilities are endless with this new direction the Dark Protectors have taken and I am overjoyed that this awesome ride isn't over.

I won this book from Netgally. My very first time and I almost cried I was so overjoyed. Out of all the books to win, THIS is just amazing!

I have to say that I am obsessed with Rebecca Zanetti!! She is a goddess and I hope that she knows it. When I finished Marked I knew that there had to be more. You cannot end a story like that and not tell me that there is more to come. However when I heard she was going back to the main series, I have read all of the Realm Protectors book, I knew that we would found out that in the hell is going to happen with Hope.

This book had nonstop action form beginning to end. It was just wonderful. There are a couple of twists and turns so please do not think that you will have time to catch a breath. Also one of my favorite characters of all time, Uncle Benny who we wee in Tangled, is back and just as funny and suspect as ever.

We are introduced to new characters and a new doomsday plot but do not worry we get to see some old friends as well. There is a WHOLE different side to the world as we know it and I am excited. I think I know who the next book will be about and I hope that I am right. I also have a second favorite character who is grump, mean, and I just want to snuggle him. We also get to find out who the hell is Ronan Kayrs and why he is the King. I was confused when I read the synopsis but I promise it makes totally sense.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to discover Rebecca Zanetti’s return to the Dark Protector series. Though she kept one toe in the pool with her Realm Enforcers spinoff, those books never quite had the same magic for me as the original series. This one absolutely does. It completely re-captured the magic of those early books and I felt like I never left.

I knew from the blurb that the hero would be a Karys, but what I didn’t know was how he would fit in with the family I knew and loved from the previous books. Would this be a prequel? Were we jumping forward in time? I knew I had never heard of a character named Ronan before. Turns out, it’s the best scenario of all. This book pics up about seven years after the last Dark Protectors book. Ronan is an ancestor of Dage– long dead to most of the world, his existence almost erased.

Ronan has been hanging out in another dimension for the past several hundred years. He was there to prevent the escape of a super powerful bad guy that could not be killed. He is one of the Seven tasked to this mission. Men who formed a bond of blood, bone, and brotherhood to protect the world. Only now, he has been kicked back to his home world and fears it is only a matter of time before his prisoner comes back as well.

Faith is the doctor who is destined to be his mate. Her special gift is that she can talk to people who are in a coma. You would think that would be more useful with her sister Grace actually in a coma, but it seems Faith can talk to everyone except for her. Anyway, Grace is the only family that Faith has and it is her life’s mission to take care of her sister. I get that, I really do, but some of the things Faith does in order to reach that goal pushed her to the boundaries of Too Stupid To Live. This woman is a scientist. She is supposed to be smart. But she makes some really dumb decisions by leading with her heart. Like, really dumb.

The story follows Ronan as he tries to rebuild his band of brothers while keeping Faith safe from the current Kurjans who are trying to get to her. Ronan absorbs information, technology, and modern culture at a thousand times the speed of light, which strains credibility even in a world with demons, vampires, witches and God knows what else. But despite that and my beef with Faith’s questionable decisions, I ate this book up with a spoon. Yes, Ronan skirts the line a little with my ability to tolerate alpha heroes who spank their heroine to teach them a lesson. But by and large, he such a good leading man. He tries to be patient. He protects her. He tries to protect her sister. And goodness knows, the man has sacrificed so much for the good of the world.

Garrett and Logan are here and I believe they are going to play a big part in the series moving forward. But so is Janie’s daughter, Hope. She is only a child, but she is meeting a Kurjan boy in a dream world just like her parents did. Some people might take issue with how familiar this may feel, but I adored it. I want to see that magic happen all over again. And I have no doubt that Zanetti will deliver it.

Like I said, reading this book brought me right back into the fold of a series I was so sad to lose. And it is just the right blend of fresh and familiar. I know these books are a little pricey, but they are totally worth it. Can’t wait to see where the series goes next. I hope every single member of the seven has his own installment. Fingers crossed.

Vampire’s Faith by Rebecca Zanetti

Paranormal romance. 8th in the series. Can be read as a standalone. I have not read the previous books and enjoyed this book without feeling lost or that I missed pieces.

Enemy vampire races fight for supremacy. Classic good vs. evil with the heroine questioning why based on science and the need to save her coma laden sister.
Destined mates. Some domination tendency with spanking.

It was amusing that so many times they start to have sex, they are interrupted.
And vampires apparently drink a lot of alcohol.
Overall, this brotherhood of vampires struck me as fighting for good and saving the Enhanced females, but only the human doctor cared about the innocent lives in jeopardy. The romantic love took a long time to arrive although the lust factor was off the charts right from the beginning.
I like other series by this author more.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
