"Celtic Tree Oracle” by Sharlyn Hidalgo is a tree-focused deck that follows the seasonal cycles.
The cards are 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. The card stock is durable, and the cards feel nice. There are twenty-five woodland-themed cards. Illustrator Jimmy Manton uses an earth-coloured palette and muted colour splashes, which lends itself to the soft energy of the cards. He marked each card with a Celtic Tree Alphabet. Jimmy illustrated the card backs with a gold Celtic knot on a solid forest green background. The cards are visually appealing.
Sharlyn completed the guidebook in black and white, and it is larger than the cards. She uses a table of contents to organise the information, starting with a preface, an introduction to the Celtic Tree Divination System, birth tree information, reading with the cards, and individual card discussion. Card write-ups include: hemispheres, totems, deities, letters, classes, keywords, what the card means in a reading (upright and reversed), and a message. Sharlyn wrote the message section from the tree’s perspective. For example, “I am the majestic Saille Willow. I am a tree that . . .” This approach makes sense for a deck that focuses on trees as living, spiritual beings.
For people familiar with or curious about tree energy and ancient Celtic wisdom, and who love nature, these cards will likely provide lovely readings.
“Celtic Tree Oracle” by Sharlyn Hidalgo and Jimmy Manton is a beautifully illustrated deck with a unique energy.
I wish there was more information on each card, but I've found that with other card decks..Just a guidebook thing, I suppose.. The artwork is nice, but I wish it was more detailed. I can always look up the trees with another book, though..
I used this book and these Tarot cards as a daily intention setting practice every morning for a few weeks in a row. I enjoyed the practice as it helped ground myself and take back control of my daily routine, but it felt like many of the descriptions on the cards were too similar. It was difficult to distinguish the meanings between some of the cards.
