All my friends know that I'm all about science and the great thing about this book is that it is too! Sure dog lovers will love it, but science nerds will too. National Geographic takes kids through all the parts of being a dog including their senses and how their brains work. From teaching your dog tricks to giving them taste tests to why they like to go to the bathroom in the same spot and so much more. We don’t have a dog in our house, but if we did, I would be just as excited as a kid to try out some of these experiments on our dog. I was fascinated by how their tongue catches the water in their water bowl. Hint…it makes the shape of a certain letter of the alphabet! I also had no idea there are animal blood banks. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that before, but it totally makes sense. Also, a dog’s nose print is unique, like our fingerprints.
Kids can learn how to make doggy snacks and even a coat for their dog! This book is a great way for kids to get to know their dog and understand why they made do some of the crazy things dogs do. Lots of great photos of dogs, easy explanations for the experiments, and fun activities are included.
This book is sure to be a winner for children who love their dogs. And it will definitely hit the high-spot for those youngsters who have a dream of becoming a Veterinarian.
This isn't just about playing with that favorite pet or companion. No, it is about understanding the many aspects that make your pup into that special canine he or she is. Understanding what they can see or what they can hear and even how to bathe Fido rank high on the scale of loving and caring for your pet. But this book helps you go beyond just caring for and loving your pet. It helps you see the scientific basis or method that leads to understanding.
I think this is a really interesting book to have in schools, libraries, and homes blessed with the companionship of a beloved canine companion.

She has brought me so much joy and I want nothing more than to give her back all the joy she has given me. I know that every dog lover will want this book. This wonderful book stayed on my "Currently Reading" shelf because I loaned it to friends with dogs and had to wait till it came home again! Such a fun book because... well...it's dogs! But also because Jodi Wheeler-Toppen makes all the experiments/activities fun.
Instructions are clear and concise with age levels included so that even the youngest pet owners can get in on the fun. And all the pictures? Helpful with directions but come on, it's all kinds of cute dogs. Science and dogs and fun--can it get any better?
