Much to the chagrin of foreman Josiah, Jessie Davidson wants a romance reduction. But the Double D Ranch hides a secret. Since inheriting the property, Jessie kept her grandmother’s hoard concealed, but now she’s found the courage to purge the unwanted items: steamy novels, thousands of them. Romance has to go! Donating the books is a good thing, right? Not when coupled with a dare.
The dare spirals out of control. The ante is upped when caches of the spicy books, left in barber shops, pool halls, and pubs, challenge others to join the fad. A perverted prankster runs amok playing on the town’s fantasies. Book clubs are formed. Plots acted out. In a town saturated with romance, Jessie finds her love life underdeveloped.
Keep Jessie safe. It’s the promise Josiah Barnes made to Jessie’s dying grandmother. He aims to honor it, even if it means protecting Jessie from himself. Failing her in the past has him on high alert when the Double D becomes ground zero for the arousal avalanche sweeping the town. As a full-support, silent partner, Josiah will do anything to augment the Double D. But when Jessie starts selling handmade lingerie, keeping his hands to himself is easier said than done…
Will she shelve happily ever after like a rejected novel, or open her heart and start a new chapter?
Rochelle puts an artistic spin on everything she does but there are two things she fails at miserably: 1. Cooking (seriously, she can burn water) 2. Sewing (buttons immediately fall back off)
She loves baking and makes a mean BTS (Better than Sex) cake. When in observation mode she is quiet, however, her mouth is usually open with an encouraging glass-is-half-full pun or, quite possibly, her foot.
She is a Bearcat, a Buckeye, an interior decorator, and fluent in sarcasm.
Rochelle shares her home with a big black cat, an itty-bitty orange tiger kitty, her daughter, her son, and her Prince.
She loves to connect with readers. You can find her on Facebook (search for Author Rochelle Bradley), Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram.

I was so excited for this book and it was such a let down. For someone who reads books quickly and had over a 10 road trip it took over 3 days for me to finish this book. It was such a slow read and then when the characters got together it took 3 days before they were married. It seemed like so many small plots were going on and it became hard to follow and boring. It was very much a let down.

I loved this light-hearted romantic fiction novel. The puns are funny and nonstop. Young-at-heart Desire is the most over the top, sexy, hilarious character. I really hope she gets her own story in the future. Josiah and Jessie are characters you can relate to and root for.
You will laugh, lust, cheer and groan your way through this fabulous book one of the Fortuna, Texas series.
I definitely recommend The Double D Ranch by Rochelle Bradley. This is a great read whether you are on the beach in summer or cozied up by the fire in winter. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
I have to admit, I was far from taking this novel seriously once I read the eye-rolling title of Bradley’s book, but I was pleasantly surprised by this great yarn about a small western town gone loco over a secret treasure trove of old romance novels. “Longhorns and lingerie” barely begins to describe this live-wire western romance with a twist of mystery and angst. And although it’s sexual innuendo that abounds between the pages of this astonishingly endearing read—with places like the Tease Me Salon, Nailed—the local hardware store, and the Twin Hills Country Club in Nockerville (the next town over from Fortuna—readers will be giggling with delight as ranch-owner, Jessie, and her head cow-poke, Josiah, set themselves on a mission to save the financially troubled Double D Ranch.
Sure… The title of this book might be a bit over-the-top, but the story itself is interesting and well-written. “The Double D Ranch” is a tongue-in-cheek, larger-than-life, Texas romance that combines romance and ranch-handling with entrepreneurial genius, erotic hi-jinks, and a hidden secret from the past. Bradley injects just the right amount of humor into this particular work, making it a hilarious erotic romance, and yet her warm and genuine characters, who are defined by complex pasts that are seldom presented in this genre, carry the plotline forward like a herd of wild horses running free on the lone prairie.
If you’re in the mood for some knee-slapping’, rip-roarin’, high-fallutin’, get-ready-to-kick-off-your-boots-and-dance action, saddle-up, Pardner… This little filly is ready to ride happily into the sunset!
I love this book. This is a new to me author and I will be looking for more in this series. Jessie inherits the Double D Ranch from her grandparents and Josiah is the foreman. They have been friends since they were teenagers. Josiah promised her grandma on her deathbed that he would always protect Jessie and keep her safe. To save the farm Jessie starts sewing lingerie but doesn't tell Josiah what she is doing. Desire helps her because she has the knowledge of opening and running her own business. Josiah becomes a silent partner without jessie knowing who it is because he believes in her and know she will succeed. I have never laughed so much at the antics of an old lady as I did when reading Desire and the things she did and said. Will Jessie be able to make a go of her lingerie business to save the ranch? Will she find out who the silent partner is? Will they ever admit they love each other?
This was such a fun read. The romance book reading and all the pranks made you laugh .I cant wait to read more from this series.I received this book free as part of goodreads giveaways.
Welcome to THE DOUBLE D RANCH and the town of Fortuna Texas . Jessie Davidson has inherited the ranch from her grandmother . She has also discovered a hoard of steamy romance novels . When she donates them , she starts finding them all over town and a town caught up in the reading of said novels . Acting them out and just having romance all over the place . As her love life is idle , but there is a spark from a man that has been in her life will bring more then any romance novel can ever do . The characters were fun to read , there are some really wacky over the top characters in Fortuna Texas . Jessie and Josiah are such a cute couple even though they are just a little naïve about the whole love thing . They usually end up doing things on a dare . They are sweet and kind and you really want to get to know them . The person that kept me laughing hard was Desire, she is one hilarious woman, she loves to get people to do things that they normally don't do . Trust me ladies you will snort laughing at what these characters get up to . This is a fun, fast read , you can read it on a cold day like today . I will say just be prepared to laugh your butt off . Between the prankster running around town and the men reading romance novels and trying to act them out . You will laugh so hard . There were just a few things that kind slowed the book down a bit . Jessie and Josiah getting together , it took a long time for them to come together . Even though they had feelings for each other. It kind of dragged a bit for me . I over all really enjoyed the story and the characters . If you want a fun read that will leave you laughing check it out , you will not be disappointed
If you love slow burn romantic and sexy book, this is the book for you! This is a beautiful, well-written book about Jessie who lost so much, but keeps going. She lived some very disturbing events, yet, she smiles, she reads, and she finds a way to make even more money than just with the ranch.
The Double D ranch, first you think oh, no! Not an innuendo in the title right away? Yet, I know from the author that it isn't intended, still, I will leave you the pleasure to take your guess. Even if the final pairing is obvious from the start, the plot is well developed and I can't count how many times I laughed! I also wanted to kick a character, but that's just me! I can't wait to read the second volume from this series, and I know it is coming out soon!
The Double D Ranch is a rootin’ tootin’ good time, complete with hot cowboys, steamy romance, and double entendres that will have you “doubled” over with laughter. But don’t let the humor fool you. Double D is an entertaining romance with well-developed characters you can’t help but fall in love with, and a plot driven story that will have you turning the pages and leave you wanting more. Bradley has delivered a solid debut novel, one that has this reader anxiously awaiting the release of her next installment. Hold onto your hats, folks – it’s gonna be a helluva ride!
I may be a little prejudiced because this book was written by my daughter in law. But I think it is a fun read, the characters are well written and the tongue in cheek banter is hilarious. She is busy at work on her next novel. We are very proud of her. Plus I think you would enjoy this book so I highly recommend!!
This book is a hoot. If I start to tell you about what is so funny - I'd give it away and you really want to read this book yourself to find out what I mean. Suffice it to say, I made notes of the things that were cracking me up as I went along so I could tell them to my best friend.
This book was amazing, so much tension between Jessie and Josiah and even though it took most of the book, when they finally accepted each other's love....well worth it. The townsfolk are such great characters, Desire is a favorite with her spunky attitude. AMAZING
⚠️TW: According to the book: This book is very immature and may be offensive to some. View at your own risk. - abuse, childhood death mentioned, ⚠️
💭 Overall thoughts: I went into this book knowing that the cover was cute. I've never read anything else by this author and I didn't read the synopsis. The Double D Ranch was a cute slow burn, closed door romance. Josiah and Jessie were cute and I enjoyed reading their story. 4/5 ⭐
Dual POV ✅ yessss!! My absolute favorite!
Guy falls first ✅ he's clearly been in love for years.
Slow Burn ✅ this trope kills me, but it's gotta happen sometimes..
Closed door romance ✅ not a favorite of mine.
⚠️ SPOILERS IN FORM OF MY PLAY-BY-PLAY THOUGHTS AND QUOTES ⚠️
The MFC and I have the same name!
No way! My best friend is named Kelly too!
Her grandma and I share a liking for smutty books.
I think her reasonings for not liking romance books are going to be the reasons she falls in love with Josiah.. and the married in 3 months, I bet that happens.. they won't need to worry about a booked venue when she owns a ranch..
😂😂😂😂 Her opening up a book and reading a random bit to whom she considers a stranger? Way more daring than I am..
I'm assuming the name of the ranch is like a double entendre - Donald Davidson, also for all the spicy books Undine liked to read?
I love that basically all the men in town are reading the romance books.
I thought that Mona was giving the winning kisses? Why did Jessie decide to kiss Josiah when he won?
I don't think it said, but how old is Jessie? She keeps calling Josiah younger..
Even if they were going to elope, who does B.J. think he is getting upset about it? He can't still be friends with her?
Josiah being mad at Gimme it dumb..
Brad is a Sam Elliott looking man? That must be one fine ass dad.. 🤤
Uh oh. Rusty is going to get released..
Okay.. she's 3 years older than him.. not a huge age difference..
Oh shit. Gimme is gonna get his ass handed to him.. he will be lucky if Brad doesn't hear him talking about his daughter like that and fire him.
I am dying that he actually showed up naked, and she set up a trap 😂😂
Does the receptionist not like Jessie because she's interested in Josiah and have heard the rumors they are together?
It's cracking me up she keeps referring to seeing him crank one as "shooting his gun" 😂
My Google search now has the phrase "double goosed" in it 😂🫣
Are they finally going to sleep together? He's helping her look at the ranch finances..
"Johnson forced the door the rest of the way open, slamming it against the wall and making Jessie bounce back a few steps." - because he has every right to do that... The fuck does he think he is?
The way I am dying at how Josiah just stood up and shook his boxer clad "gun" around as if he's marking his territory with Jessie 😂😂😂
Are they just going to skip over her declaring that Josiah is moving in?
If B.J. plowed through the fence because he was mad at Jessie..
"Little girl" might be Brad's pet name for Jessie, but it reads as him being condescending.. I don't like it.
Will we find out who is stealing and doing the sign pranks?
Ew. B.J.
J.B.. if they can't guess her favorite kiss had to be Josiah they are dumb..
Fu King Chinese restaurant 😂😂😂
Desire is a spunky horny old lady 😂😂
The businesses play on words for their names has my laughing..
The taco place 😂💀 the Pink Taco 😂😂
I guess Gimme Malone could be added to the names list that makes me chuckle if you consider what his family does for a living..
Has Jessie never met Carlotta before? They live in the same small town.. how does that make any sense?
If she doesn't punch him..
Also, I know this is random at the moment.. but are you telling me there's only 2 rooms in the ranch that Josiah has to sleep on the couch?
Ugh. "Hey baby, are you in there?" Get a fucking clue B.J..
Kind of rude of Josiah to not let Jessie know she'd be meeting his dads side of the family. I'd be pissed.
I'm so used to reading fantasy books that I'm used to SOMEONE being able to scent when someone is aroused.. it's strange for that not to be a thing 😂
“You were besotted with me. Admit it, Jess. What else did you want to do with my studly body while I was asleep? I was a kid and you were a woman of the world.” - I know she was only 19 to his 16, but him putting it like this really gives me the ick
Chapter 35 🤏🏼🔥
I think the man that mentioned the gown modeled after the books cover is "Paige Turner"... I think that's his author name...
Haha, I was right! And Gabe knew before Josiah.
How did B.J. get a front row seat? Desire's handy work?
I will have to go back and reread, but I thought it said Moriah died at the age of 5, and then it said that her and Daisy were friends since 3rd grade.. did I read wrong? - okay, I reread it.. he was talking about Gabe being 5 when she died..
I know it says it's a slow burn, but we are 80% into this book and there has only been 1 slightly spicy dream and then kissing... Goodness, where is the spice?
Chapter 40 🤏🏼🔥
Is this a closed door romance? If it is I will be slightly disappointed..
I still get annoyed when Brad calls her little girl..
Jean Poole is also a funny name when you think about the store she works at The Family Jewels 😂
She's planning on proposing to him before he has a chance to propose to her..
It pisses me off that she all of a sudden doesn't trust Josiah.. he told her there was no other girl for him..
When they said Gabe was into drawing I immediately thought he was the one who did the graffiti on the barn.. why Josiah never told her when he first found out is beyond me..
Is Desire the one in charge of all the pranks? She's paying the young Barnes boys for it?
"They're better than porn." He was not lying.. romance novels are definitely better than porn.
I'm so annoyed that she is upset that he's the silent partner..
Epilogue 🤏🏼🔥
Closed door romance...
These names (at least the ones that made me laugh without thinking too long) 😂 Desire Hardmann... B.J. Johnson... Undine Love... Kelly Greene... Mona Little... Sawyer Hickey... Holden Dix... The Double D Ranch is where the arousal avalanche started with the discovery of the provocative hoard of romance novels. Now all the big bad men are in book clubs learning the art of magic mouths while the women wait to be experimented on. LMAO! This is not all! There is a wonderful story about Jessie who inherited the Double D Ranch when her grandparents passed away. She is slowly but surely going through all their things when she happens upon the hoard of romance novels. And I use the term hoard very loosely. A bet is made and next thing you know the whole town is hooked on the romance novels! She uncovers a past about her grandparents that she didn’t know and realizes that her grandmother was a little feistier than she ever would have thought. I LOVE her grandmother’s story and the fact that her friend is still around to add fuel to the fire. Actually, there are a lot of things that go on in this story. I will be brief so not to give too much away but there is a town prankster, lingerie, an incredibly slow burn love story, crazy characters, and an intense backstory of Jessie’s. I must be honest that the slow burn part was killing me. There were times that I was like “just get it on already”! However, the crazy names, funny situations, the plethora of sexual innuendos and the witty banter had me literally laughing out loud! There is a great story, though a bit sweet and corny at times, kept me turning the page. This is a new author for me, but I definitely needed the tongue-in-cheek story. If you need something light-hearted and a bit on the slapstick comedy side, I’d recommend!
I watch MXC with my hubby on youtube - and this book has comedic aspects that remind me of that show. In other words, you will laugh reading this book. (Yes, intentional by the author). It got to the point that I would text my friend and tell her the next funny part. I don't want to give anything away so you are going to have to read it for yourself.
Jessie inherited Double D Ranch at an early age and with it came a bedroom filled with steamy, romance books... (Compliments from her grandmother.) Getting help from her mate B.J. to remove the smutty literature, intending to donate them to a senior senter, they started to turn up at the least likely places. B.J. was a friend due to their mutual dislike of romance. He, because of a cheating ex-wife and she, because of an attack. In the shadow lurked her foreman Josiah though, he did definitely have more than a friendly attitude towards Jessie. The wayward books soon turned the sleepy Fortuna into a bawdy town. Romance flourished and a prankster spiced up their lives. The two bucks eventually butted heads and Jessie was presented with the luxurious problem of having two hunks vying for her attention. Choosing which one proved to be a little difficult... In addition, the ranch has some financial difficulties and Jessie needs to come up with a source for a secondary income. Inspiration came from her grandmother's exotic life, with a lot of help from her late grandmother's ornery friend Desire. About halfway through, the back and forth between the two guys and Jessie's insecurities towards Josiah's intent, started to grate on me. Jessie came across as a little dense and her failure to recognise Josiah's feelings, seemed less and less plausible. It redeemed itself nicely, in the last quarter, as the pace picked up.
I came so close to not finishing this book. I ended up reading a chapter in between every other book I finished. On one hand it’s a typical small town romance with a cute story line. On the other it takes them waaaaaayyyy too long to get together. The main characters would be making innuendos and ‘dirty’ jokes to each other and then three pages later she would think, “does he really like me???” The other detractor for me was that every name was a dirty pun. Norma Stitts, Holden Dix, and his daughter Pixie Dix, Eric Shein…. No lie there had to be at least 60 of them. It felt like introducing joke names was the author’s main focus. That or they had a class of 7th grade boys cast the novel. It also felt like she was laughing AT romance readers and not with us. Such a distraction to the story. The other item I didn’t like was even with all the sexual innuendos and dirty jokes (and there are a TON), it’s a closed door romance. I had to read entirely too many references to his “gun” but at the end of the book ……nothing?? 🙄
I thought this was an exceptional book. It is an exciting and fun read. Even though the beginning of the book had parts that I thought tended to drag along some, I could not give this book less than five stars. You soon learn that every incident reflects something that will take place later in the book. The characters are definitely quite the individuals, each with a unique personality. The little town had a lot going on and the humor throughout the story had me laughing out loud. Would I read more books by this author? Yes, I look forward to it. Do I recommend this wonderful story and this author? Absolutely, without hesitation.
Very sophomoric humor. Took me forever to read. Usually can finish a book in a couple of days, took over a week to finish-I hate not finishing a book so was determined to complete it. No obvious grammatical errors, writing was fine. So tired by the "cute" names by the end of the book. Sorry not sure who this book was meant to entertain. I thought the premise was good but the execution was poor. The h was so wishy washy, choose already, and the on and on about who she kissed and rating them. Enough said.
What fun it was to read The Double D Ranch. This story is the beginning starting Jessie and Josiah. This is a romance that starts at a young age but life happens and things just got in the way. The was a fun romantic book to read. There love is a slow burn but once the heat kicks up between them, oh wow... They are perfect for each other.
Get world and character building. It was a nice book to read with lost of fun, romance, longing, and just very fun to read.
When your grandparents knew how your life was going to turn out long before you do life takes interesting turns. Thia is one sweet, interesting, and hot little story. Cant wait to see what happens in this little town. The power of books is over taking the city.
I had a great time reading this book. Like all good stories there was the good , the bad, the hero and heroine. Plus a large cast of characters that I truly believe were perfect for this story. I'll be reading the next book for sure and will be checking out this author's other books.
Jessie Davision inherited her family's property ranch and her grandmother's sizeable room-size collection of thousands of steamy romance novels. These novels are distributed in male-oriented locations like barbershops and pool halls. The men in this small town begin to read these romances. Josiah, the foreman in charge of the ranch, has his eyes on Jessie and has failed her several times to keep her safe. As the town becomes aroused with romance, will that romance find its way into The Double D Ranch?
The book is a small-town love affair. A small town where everyone knows everyone's business. The author did a fantastic job keeping the reader engaged in the story and all the folks in the town. The book was fun, easy to follow, and perfect for summer reading. The unique characters were brought in perfectly throughout the book.
The author did an excellent job of discussing the sensitive topics in the book regarding the abusive behavior of one character. Though a sensitive topic, it was handled well.

Here’s a teaser from the book… "Over a hundred thousand?" B.J. whistled. "Damn, that's a lot of smutty books." They filled one plastic bin to the brim then started on another. "You're going to need a lot more of these storage totes if your estimate is anywhere near accurate." He took another handful and passed them off with a grimace as if romance might give him cancer. She took the books, curious to what had motivated the authors to write. Romance: the one thing neither she nor B.J. wanted. She sat the books aside then inspected the stacks. The room overflowed with sex, love and romantic intentions. It was a virtual nightmare of false hope and unrealistic expectations. Her grandmother had been a hopeless romantic and had dreams for Jessie. She sighed and tried to ignore the guilt corroding her heart. No, she was better off removing romance from her life. Including the books, even if she felt she'd be disappointing her grandma.
