She was the perfect catch. But one wrong move, and Kyle Montgomery was given the silent treatment for years. When the grown-up version of her crush appears in her life again, will Kandice Naylor give him a chance to prove he's worth taking a risk for?
This book was good and I am glad that it wasn't a short story. The ending wasn't as satisfying as it could have been. I wanted to at least read about their HEA.
I've previously mentioned that I've had dismal luck finding romance novels that I enjoy. After meeting the author at a conference and her promise that her books are filled with "sparkles and butterflies" I decided I had to give the prequel, PERFECT CATCH a try.
I had a flight and thought it was a good moment to read without being interrupted by my kids. Hale didn't disappoint, her characters were charming and realistic. The romance is squeaky clean. I still felt like I was seeing two real people working through their misconceptions. All relationships have to work through those.
I liked how Kandice held onto her grudge, and was reluctant to let it go. It seemed really realistic that she would have been hurt by Kyle's actions in high school. Like many of us, she remembered every detail from a bad situation. Kandice also had a natural streak of kindness that helped her transcend her reluctance.
Football players are a bit of a conundrum to me. My brother played football, but I haven't known many athletes personally. It seems like it would be easy to fall into the stereotypical football jock. I liked Kyle because he was driven to succeed in his sport while emulating other values. His drive didn't prevent him from being likeable and approachable with his family and friends. I always have soft spot in my heart for book lovers, and both Kandice and Kyle love books - which is how they connect and reconnect.
If you are in the mood for a summer romance, this is the right author to check out!
Misunderstandings from High School linger. This was a sweet story and I enjoyed Kandice's spunk and ability to not speak to Kyle for so many years. In High School she punched him in the eye without a word and then refuse to ever speak to him ever again. Telling him after that punch if he ever talked to or contacted her ever again, it would be a punch to his nose. And he was a shy guy who loved her since 8th grade but took her at her word and never told anyone the truth of what happened. Because he still didn't know what happened.! She wouldn't tell him ! He was kind of still afraid at 6'5"'s to tick her off. That made me smile ! It does have plenty of emotions in it too-because Kandice had been in love with him before and doesn't trust him now ! I kind of felt sorry for Kyle because he really did care about Kandice, he just wasn't very good at talking with her. He keeps putting his foot in his mouth. Poor guy ! He's there for the summer until he has to head to the NFL, so his time is limited before he has to leave. He is watching his twin brother and sister and they a lot of fun. Especially his 15 year old sister, Liz is clever, observant and wants to see Kyle happy. Liz also likes Kandice a lot too, she's scheming to get them to date. Adds up to some funny moments. So does the funny nickname that she has "Z". I kept thinking, who would ever name their kid, Grip? Sure, they are all in when it comes to football, but still. That's the other twin, then I learned his name was actually Luke and these nicknames came about because of when they were little kids, certain names were hard for them to pronounce! I really liked how the story ended, it was sweet and rewarding !
Aww this was such a sweet short read. Loved it so much. My first book by this author but I'm definitely going to continue reading her books. I would've loved an epilogue though but everything was so perfect. I love good friends to lovers story. Loved that it was written in dual POV.
They were high school sweethearts but neither of them weeren't going to reveal how they feel about each other. Kyle loved spending time with Kandice and finding any excuse to be near her. I loved their little games - competitions and how they both loved reading. I didn't like how their friendship ended in high school. They just needed to communicate lol. I loved how they reconnected and starting spending time together and to get to know each other again. The chemistry was strong, sparks flied whenever they were around each other and loved their banter. And loved that Kandice finally gave Kyle a chance. They deserved it.
Kyle was such a sweet, genuine and down to earth guy. He wasn't typical jock which I liked. He really cares about his brother and sister and loved their interaction.
Kandice was a nerdy, shy girl and book lover. I think she was strong heroine even though I didn't like her self doubt, but I understood where she was coming from.
If you want sweet, quick second chance romance and friends to lovers book this is one for you.
Kandice and Kyle had competitions when they were in school. Kyle asked Kandace to the winter dance, and she thought they had a great time. The next day Kyle told his friends that he and Kandace weren’t friends, that she was a nerd and he was using her to get to her older brother. Kandice heard and promptly gave Kyle a black eye. Fast forward six years and they are thrust in each other’s paths. Kyle wants to know what he did wrong but Kandice will not talk about it. That is until she finds an apology note.
I thought it was a cute book. Loved Kandice and Kyle and could see where that could happen in real life. Loved how Liz kept pushing them at each other. Ms Hale’s story is easy to read and can be read in one sitting. Those are the kind of books that I like. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good love story.
This is a cute, clean romance. The characters were friends throughout high school, both wanted to be more but a misunderstanding caused a riff between them. Six years later, they run into each other and the sparks are still there. Can they start over and make things work? I really enjoyed the beginning of this story. I like the characters. There was some good banter and I was curious to find out if they could trust each other. The middle of the story was just a little slow. So maybe I was not paying enough attention, but it was as if all of a sudden the story was over. I literally turned back a page thinking I’d miss something. The ending was quite abrupt and I really would’ve liked to have had a little more depth into their feelings of coming back together. It is a short read, and I think a lot of people would still like it. I believe this was a prequel to the series. 3.5 stars
Kandice and Kyle went to school together. Kyle Montgomery was the most impossible guy in the entire tenth grade. And she was completely smitten by him. He was always quick with a joke or two. Kandice Naylor remembers all too well. He took her to the dance ,she thought they had a good time. The next day she gave him a black eye for what she overheard him say to his friends about her. That was six years ago and he’s back wanting to know where he went wrong. He thought they’d got along. Well it’s a to n fro before they got to know the misunderstanding but it took him a while to get back in her good books but as all good books do their romance angst and cute reconcile brings a smile . Great writing and storytelling too that grabs you.
This book was sweet, but frustrating. How can two people be so close, yet so distant. Why are they both so afraid to communicate honestly. And why does Kandace choose to act so violently instead of giving Kyle a chance to explain? This whole story asks so many questions without having any answers. I can't imagine two people having the kind of relationship that these two people have.
It's basically an enjoyable story to read because there are two likeable main characters, but the ending left me wondering why not tell us more? Oh well, not every book can please me entirely. At least this didn't take long to read.
Kandice and Kyle had had a thing for each other in high school but a misunderstanding kept them apart. Now, it is six years later and they might get their second chance at love. Will they be able to clear up the misunderstanding and move forward or be stuck in the high school drama and give up on something that could be wonderful? Kyle's sister is determined to help them see clearly how much they have to lose.
This was a sweet, clean romance about second chance love. I offer my honest review willingly.
Sweet, clean romance. A fiesty young woman decides to protect her heart from a smitten young admirer who makes a misspoken, overheard comment that comes between them for 10 years! A wounded heart and teenage vulnerability follow them into adulthood inspite of the persistent pulling of heart strings. A fun but predictable romance suitable for the young and young at heart.
This s was a quickest read. I was pleas ed that it was clean. A must for me. The whole story starts in high school which I thought was really cutr. Poor clueless guy and girl who has no idea how much guy likes ypu. This is a prequel so I'm interested in reading the rest of Chelsea 's series.
After reading the first book in this series I had to read this story. It was so good! Even though things had an explosive start, they still found their happy ending. The bonding over books and siblings was so sweet. The book is a short sweet read, very entertaining.
Enjoyable clean read. Story starts when they are in school and their budding romance crashes to a halt. Six years later they meet again and with the help of his matchmaking sister, sort out the past misunderstanding. I look forward to reading the next book by this author.
Cute little story to connect Kandice and Kyle love story and the part Liz played as matchmaker while healing from a broken leg. My only concern is that it was too short, I want more. I love these characters!
An easy and enjoyable read. Funny how overheard conversations can complicate matters. A perfect example of how honest communication between people can clear up things and avoid wasted years. A good story with interesting characters, plus, a good ending.
Started strong and was an fun read but it the middle wasn’t as strong/engaging and the ending while fine felt a bit abrupt and a tad unfinished as we never found out the store did. It did enough that I would be interested in reading more in the series.
This was a sweet cute second chance romance. We all deserve a second chance, and luckily after a communication break through Kandice and Kyle got theirs. The characters are likeable and engaging, and the storyline is entertaining start to finish. They are a cute memorable couple. Check it out.
Nice “one who got away” romance that starts in high school with a misunderstanding and reunites the likable main characters later in life when they’re more mature so that they can get to know each other again. Funny, detailed, and unique. Reminds me of other good, popular YA romances!
PERFECT CATCH is an easy afternoon rom-com read. I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet, slow burn, on-again, off-again romance — all fouled up because of a high school misunderstanding. This prequel is well written and well plotted with realistic dialog and fully drawn main characters.
Such a fun, quick, cute read. Loved the characters and the storyline. My first experience with this author. I'd read this one again and try some of her others. Clean.
So I already knew the basics as this little prequel is the last I read of the series, but I'm still glad I did it. Cute banter. Would recommend this series.
